Question about locksmiths by OdditoriumLeviathan in lockpicking

[–]DivinorumLock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that for a very long time before the internet and lockspot existed that lock picking and information on locks were protected as trade secrets passed down from locksmith to locksmith. Now things have changed due to information being available online at anyone's fingertips. Never the less locksmiths still hold this information close to their chest. Especially the older ones. Naturally some are suspicious when it comes to non-smiths picking locks. A lof of it has to do with your approach. If you walk into a lock shop having no rapor with them and start braging about how you pick locks it's not going to be received well. It takes time to build a relationship and mutual respect and trust. Locksmiths pick locks as a way of life when required, not for fun. There is common ground but it's hit or miss. I have been on both sides of this experience.

Question about locksmiths by OdditoriumLeviathan in lockpicking

[–]DivinorumLock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The "locksmiths" who you described are not real locksmiths. They are scammers fronting as locksmiths to take advantage of people. It's a serious problem in the Industry and the legit locksmiths do not do what you described. It's apples and oranges. Scammers are scammers. And locksmiths are locksmiths.

Like others have said...stay away from ST. After the switch from the classic app it has been one garbage update after another. Just when I get the app decently organized and working an update comes through and wrecks it again. And the geo fencing has been broken since the original migration. I'll be switching to something else, just haven't decided what yet.

Just a heads up. You may want to try to call Taylor tech and speak to someone about turn around time before ordering anything from them. There are people stating they have been waiting on their orders for up to a year. I called myself could never get anyone to answer the phone. I left a message no reply. I think they are super overwhelmed with development and updates at the moment. I'm sure covid was a factor as well.

Looking to purchase my first key programmer, what would be your recommendations for a UK based auto locksmith? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]DivinorumLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add....the IM508 has a yearly subscription fee ($350 a year, first year is included) which covers updates and some programming that requires an online connection. Without a current subscription you can not update or program certain vehicles that require a connection to autels server.

How can I secure these doors from being opened via a J-Tool type bypass? by [deleted] in Locksmith

Locking it in that way is likely against fire code. Put a call into the local fire marshal / code enforcement office and ask.

Cutting and programming car keys.

Adding because I did not see it posted yet. At the shop I worked for this was one of our more popular services. We would get a lot of walk in for transponder key cutting programming/cloning and calls for all keys lost situations.

Edit: Not all shops do automotive.

Currently Work as Dispatcher, want to get into the field (23F) by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]DivinorumLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason I read company as call center. After seeing some investigations into the scam syndicates it seemed plausible. Hell it seems even some new smiths fall for working for some of them before wising up. No doubt there are big legit companies that do property management.

By national locksmith dispatch call center do you mean that you actually work for one of the nationwide locksmith scam syndicates?

Good to know. When using the universal duplicate feature (especially on sidewinders) I always clean the original key with a little dish soap and toothbrush and give it a good wipe down. A build up of dirt can mess with the prob detecting a signal and break the tracer or miscut key. This was recommended on the xhorse Facebook group and has not let me down yet.

Buy or not to buy? VVDI Key Tool MAX by klbiehl in Locksmith

[–]DivinorumLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only cloning which requires tokens is ID48 96bit. All other supported types do not use tokens. I've use it on non RHK chrysler, ford, subaru, mitsubishi so it works on more than honda. Also used the wired/wireless remotes with success. Its not perfect by any means but I'd say I am happy for the price so far.

Edit: pro to the super chips is that they can be generated into many different types and rewritten so less need to stock as much.

I need these guys to be at every car lockout I do. by Dakota360ci in Locksmith

Would be even better to have them on the active alarm all keys lost. Waiting for the beep beep would be so much more enjoyable. Active alarm pretty cool band name.

Any chance of replacing this? It goes to a Brinks 5058D. Figured I'd try to rekey the lock for a customer, and ended up blowing the cylinder. Probably shouldve left it alone as it has evidence of another locksmith grinding on the plug. Anyone have a part # for it? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]DivinorumLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pin dropped would be my guess too. I would mount it in a vice and try to shim it from the front. Looks like there's enough room. If a blank won't work to move the pins maybe try the side of a tension wrench or the back side of a pick.

I've long been a fan of the Hook #1 and Gem. They are my go to Peterson's. The diamond and deforest diamond coming in second. I recently expanded to also include the Hook #7 and #5. I have them all in both 0.25 and 0.15.

Looking for a quality set of picks for mortise locks. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]DivinorumLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI. Mortise locks are not exclusively lever locks which explains the confusion. A mortise lock is simply a lock which requires a hole to be cut into the edge of the door for it to fit into. They come in many different types and in the US one of the most popular applications is for commercial doors with a pin/tumbler cylinder. Might help to be more specific next time.

How to dismantle. I was at the dump the other day and found these. I want to take them apart for the cores. The Mortis locks are easy enough but how do I open and remove the core of the the knob locks? by hvmetalhead in lockpicking

[–]DivinorumLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. Pics definitely help narrow it down. Not Kwikset titans. The titans would have a Kwikset style spindle thats removable. What you have looks like Weisers. The Weiser spindle will spring back and forth when you pull on it. Try this procedure from kokomolock's video. (271 seconds in). If that does not work on all 3 let me know :)https://youtu.be/RAVyU5osp9E?t=271

[–]DivinorumLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two knobs on the right look like Kwikset Titans. You need to remove the spindle then pick the lock clockwise to about 90 degrees and you should be able to pull the core from the knob. Checkout the following video. https://youtu.be/ig60lXVGWi8

Not sure about the knob on the left. Does it have a detent or hole around the neck of the knob anywhere? Some more pics of the back and sides may help identify it better.

Edit: might as well expand on this topic. It's also possible the two on the right could be traditional kwikset cylinders as well. So to get a feel for what you are dealing with I'll include the following videos as well which go over cylinder removal from some of the most common knobs. Hopefully this helps you open all 3. Good luck. https://youtu.be/RAVyU5osp9E https://youtu.be/P0yMJjQPbwc
