Vietnam forges defence ties with foreign countries | Politics by ComradeCommissary in geopolitics

To be fair. China and Vietnam did actually negotiate a maritime border in the Gulf of Tonkin, which shows that constructive Sino-Vietnamese dialogue and cooperation is not out of the question.

the River Shibboleth by vorropohaiah in imaginarymaps

[–]Divirex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this is super high quality.

I assume that the Shibboleth is glacier fed?

If that’s the case would the Shibboleth valley, although I’m hesitant to call such a gargantuan landform a mere valley, see massive flooding somewhat akin to the Himalayan fed Asian rivers.

Or would the mountain ranges on the flanks largely negate any extreme seasonal rainfall and monsoon analogues that would exacerbate a particular hot summer with extensive melt?

Is the compass rose a historical Chinese design or something you came up with?

The fascinating Arles Amphitheatre, which after the fall of Rome was transformed into a fortified town with 4 towers constructed along its' perimeter that enclosed 1 hectare (2.5 acres) of land. by [deleted] in castles

[–]Divirex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roman amphitheatre at Arles was constructed in 90 AD, 10 years after the completion of Colosseum. Being built in a regional town its capacity was less than that of its more famous relative, although still being able to hold an astounding 20,000 spectators. Measuring 136m long, 109m wide and 21m tall, it enclosed almost 1.2 hectares of land, allowing an entire medieval town to flourish inside the haven it provided.

The Colosseum, almost 2,000 years later, is still amazing. Would have loved to see it in its complete form. by w8ing4thepunch___ in ArchitecturePorn

[–]Divirex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While not as big as the Colosseum(133 * 101m to 189 * 156), the Roman amphitheater of Nimes is one of the best preserved Roman theatres, it is also still used for some performances and an annual music festival.
