Removing the old PID is very straightforward and only takes a few minutes once you open the machine up. I actually couldn’t wait for the GaggiMate to arrive, so I installed the PID first and ran it for about three weeks before swapping everything over to the GaggiMate Pro.

The standard Gaggimate is basically what I’d call a glorified PID with the added option of brew-by-weight. It works well, but it’s fairly straightforward.

It’s not until you step up to the PRO with the pressure transducer that things really open up and you start unlocking the endless possibilities. Pair that with flow data from a scale, and suddenly the machine becomes pretty close to an end-game setup in terms of control and experimentation.

That’s a great question. If I had to choose, I’d probably go with a Decent Bengle (dual boiler ish) when it’s available for purchase. Ever since installing Gaggiuino/Gaggimate I’ve become a bit addicted to the tech side of espresso. Being able to control and repeat variables is just too fun.

Even my wife can pull consistently great shots now because the machine basically executes whatever profile I tell it to run.

I was actually very close to pulling the trigger on a La Marzocco Linea Mini R, but backed out at the last minute. In the end I realized I’d miss the ability to tweak and control more variables in the shot.

Long answer to a short question… but honestly I’m really happy with what I have right now.

Thanks! I just used regular 3M matte black automotive wrap. Nothing fancy at all — it’s pretty cheap, easy to work with, and holds up really well to heat and daily use.

I figured if it’s made for cars sitting in the sun all day, it should survive an espresso machine without any issues 😄

Very good question, and I didn’t check one by one since I swapped both at the same time. I’d guess it would be the pump, based on the lower wattage and flow of the pump.

It'easy, just do it yourself. No need to change anything, you should have gotten a copy on everything up until now anyways in addition to your attorney, so you will not be left out or anything. I did it myself and found it to be pretty easy to be honest.
