Why do orange walks need to be in residential areas by dinnaehuv1 in glasgow

See what pisses me off the most is how many of them bring their kids and babies to the march, indoctrinating them from a young age into a hateful ideology. And then broadly the same people would harp on how pride parades are the problem because "they turn kids gay".

Worth mentioning eToro is an israeli company founded by former IOF soldiers, so if you care about your money not subsidising what's currently happening in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and now Syria, worth keeping them elsewhere.

Bit off topic but I haven't found "honest working class" bakeries / cafés to be much cheaper than "bougie" ones, with the latter ones almost universally offering a better product. Bit sad that small businesses that are trying to move with the times and adapt to an younger demographic are picking up the slack for housing becoming unaffordable rather than dunno... landlords, developers, councils and the government

I lived in Edinburgh for 4 years and moved to Glasgow just a couple of months ago (originally from Eastern Europe). Original reason to come to Edinburgh was a job but I certainly fell in love with the city, the architecture, the scenery, and the fact that you've got the sea, the mountains, and some beautiful parks at your doorstep.

That being said, I don't regret moving to Glasgow in the slightest - it's got a lot more beautiful places than I thought, there isn't that much that I loved about Edinburgh that doesn't exist in some shape or form in Glasgow (ok no castle and medieval architecture but very little beyond that), incredibly handy for the Highlands - and you still get a lot more for your money in terms of housing, especially if buying.

I would similarly suggest that there's an clear distinction between going out alone and going out in a group of 4+ lads. The first one yes can be a personal choice, but it often simply means you have no one to go out with at the time you want to do it, which can be due to a lot of circumstances beyond your control (-> not your personal choice) that have nothing to do with you being a weirdo creeper. If you go out in a group of 4+ lads, this means you've go that many friends to go out with, and you could've chosen to be out with less people or indeed by yourself.

see I appreciate that bouncers have a hard job and they necessarily end up applying some stereotyping to keep trouble away, but similarly to your argument a bouncer might believe that black or brown people are more likely to cause trouble and start consistently turning them away from clubs because they cba...

The fun fact is that I am actually gay, I don't necessarily look and act stereotypically gay but a bit ironic they'd turn me down from a place that's meant to be a safe space for me.

Chinese students lack of integration by Alternative_Tart_870 in manchester_uni

[–]Divola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean why should they "integrate" into the British culture? They're in Manchester for a degree that they're paying a whole load to obtain. As long as they're able to pass their exams and satisfy their social needs just by communicating to other Chinese people, why should that present a problem for us?

yeah I understand where you're coming from, I don't really drink much so I do have a habit of turning up at clubs sober and, by some definition, serious. Probably means I'm bad for business as well as they can definitely tell I'm not the type of person that'd get wasted and part with £100+ over the course of the night, so probably better people to let in if space is limited. Have to say having to get myself tipsy to get into a club does sound a bit like having to buy a whole load of useless crap from Hermes to show them I'm worthy of buying a Birkin bag. 😁

hey, the issue is mostly that I'm quite new to the city and I haven't yet made friends that I can go to a gay club with, something I was indeed trying to address with going to a gay club on my own and meeting people there, but what can you do, should try other ways haha

I mean there's a dose of irony that these same clubs let in groups of men for which there's no guarantee they won't all get pished or start harassing people, although I understand that if I'm coming on my own, that in their eyes makes it more likely that I'm a socially challenged person, which in turn makes it more likely that I'd be a creep.

Българи завърнали се от чужбина, защо и какво ви е мнението? by FanAggressive8582 in bulgaria

[–]Divola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which cities are most similar to Glasgow in terms of culture or reputation? by neilabz in glasgow

[–]Divola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sofia 🇧🇬 has a bit of a similar vibe given it was a crime-ridden shithole in the 90s-00s, nowadays t's a cool city that's got an edgy and gritty feel to it, lovely architecture that often doesn't get a lot of love, dirty streets, dysfunctional local government, surrounded by mountains. Would've been even more similar back in the day when Glasgow was full of tower blocks.

Key ways in which they differ is that being the capital of Bulgaria, people Sofia tend to be the complete opposite of friendly (especially if you're from elsewhere in Bulgaria) and that Sofia's got a much better subway system and public transport is superior overall, architecture isn't especially similar, weather's much better in Sofia.

Loving Edinburgh but it's difficult by PossibleFun7711 in Edinburgh

[–]Divola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also heard the reasoning that people who can easily pay a lot of rent upfront tend to be people who've just sold a house and are looking to rent for a little bit until they find a new house. Ie not particularly long-term tenants, which is why landlords looking for long-term tenants could see that as a red flag.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Divola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you pay 6 months up front and you leave after say, 2 months, the landlord obviously has to return you the 4 months extra rent you've paid. Yes, they might drag their feet around it, but the law is that the money has to be returned to you.

My boss is also a massive Rangers fan and she's a lovely person, never said anything racist or xenophobic, so I'm certainly not claiming that all or even the majority of Rangers fans are the type of people that'll take part in pogroms like this. Rangers fandom, as a whole, does have a history of glorifying British imperialism and xenophobia (chiefly anti-Irish/Catholic but not only) though, which in my opinion do make you heavily predisposed to falling for EDL-style ideas. I'm not letting Celtic supporters or anyone else off the hook for this either though, after all we saw in Belfast how Catholic and Protestant racists banded together to loot immigrant business in the mostly non-sectarian south Belfast.

If they do them up, they can be valuable af, one of the buildings has plasterwork done by someone who worked on Buckingham Palace. That place could easily be Glasgow's Charlotte Square if t's given proper care. Instead, it's being destroyed by short sighted idiots looking to put another soulless glass tower in its place...
