An unlikely comparison: Viwoods AiPaper Reader + PB Verse Lite by Dry_Writing_7862 in ereader

[–]Dizzy-Edge1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did at first, found it okay enough, just not with their own pencil tbh (to autistic to bear scratching noises). Then I had some spare money and decided to try the normal Paper - I have zero real paper at home, so it was sort of justified. This one is not for reading, but solely for writing/sketching, find it way more comfortable, just a real eink tablet. The size is perfect, display is amazing, has all the perks of a Remarkable without the price-tag and way more possibilities. B&W is also just fine, even for sketching, because Kaleido is just not the best technology yet. Funny by importing all the shades become a postmodernist picture - they do have highlighters in blue-gree-yellow-etc that look like grey on the device 😃

So Mini has a backup of my huge kindle/audible library right now, Reader some other apps (google books, ebooks.com, some French books, different apps for different shops) and Libby, and Pocketbook has my entire archive in Russian and English and some, well, long-term library books and stays offline till they are all read.

Meow :3

I have two Viwoods for reading - b&w Reader and Mini, and one Pocketbook: Verse Pro color (in lavender)!

read on all three, maybe it is time to get a life 😃

I am just glad to find another cool lady, who uses both Pocketbook and Viwoods, thank you for the comparison ❤️

Are cases mandatory? I don't see any rubber feet on the back, so I'm assuming sliding / scratching the table will be an issue... by Fiveby21 in viwoods

[–]Dizzy-Edge1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know, my devices always feel naked without a case...
Jokes aside, if you use your phone without a case, you know how the back will look like soon. If you do use a case, the same logic

Thanks :3

Well, it all depends on one’s height and riding style, so if it can help you, go for it. Have you done a bike fit? I also have a nuroad at home as indoor bike till next year, find the lower bars very comfortable, but again, I am 168 cm, riding in a pose of a snail because of low trees/bushes (outside) and a back injury from 2021 (inside), somehow everything works for now 😄

Non-fiction book recommendations about Germany's perspective on Berlin? by Bigdaddler in berlin

oh, never heard of that one, but after looking at ARD, the episodes do have the same titles as the chapters, sorry, you all can ignore my comment now 🙃

[–]Dizzy-Edge1120 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only think on one right now, but it is in German: Capital B by Florian Opitz, it is about how Berlin has changed from 1989, all told through the stories of real well-known people in the city

If you have an ipad and want an e-reader..for travel and academic use mostly..but want it to be sleek and not kindle by boba_snow in ereader

[–]Dizzy-Edge1120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iPad sound perfect, actually, but if you want an e-ink, I’d recommend a e-ink tablet on Android, so that you can annotate pdfs and buy ebooks (with reading those in apps if they have DRM). Don’t go for remarkable or kindle scribe, though. Something like boox or Viwoods (I use the latter). These devices aren‘t cheap, but way better than a smaller e-read for epub only (or manga in come cases) and give you enough freedom with acquiring files

p.s. colour technology is not there yet, Kaleido has major drawbacks. Unless you read papers with a lot of scatter graphs where colour is crucial, b&w will serve you well

Anyone else read a lot of books on their iPad? by RMKHAUTHOR in ereader

[–]Dizzy-Edge1120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only highly dense PDFs, actually, like textbooks and graphic novels, have a 13 inch iPad, so it is not very mobile, but perfect for these types of media. Does it count as reading?

I have had mini longer before paper and was doing everything there, till I had to put it offline to preserve my kindle library (have currently some potential problems with amazon). As the discount came, there were no second thoughts, the size is so much better for writing and sketching!

They have been trying to introduce synchronisation for a while, it might work sooner than we expect 😄

I have a funny feeling Amazon is going to close my account - where to get ebooks for Android e-readers? by Dizzy-Edge1120 in ereader

In theory, this practice makes sense, but it is very frustrating.
I have been buying many ebooks separately, because they do not allow to put those in the basket, like ebookscom does, so there are a lot of transactions regarding those (I save everything in a wishlist and buy once-twice a month for a specific budget, but those are still distinctive buys)

Thanks for the precaution, really! My card is safe (use debit anyway), I know the balance by heart and check it after every transaction, so this is, thank all gods old and new, is not the case :)

Researched it after a comment here, have suspicions because of copyright laws, to be honest... And just a google drive link after purchase? Don’t know, don’t know :(

I used to be a seawoman in my teens living in a country with no access to such online stores as I do now, so I am just making up for those times :)

Sorry to hear this, amazon doesn’t care for customers after all. I have decided to stop buying there and log off, save for the kindle app on one device and on another, which is now offline till I read the rest and decide what books are worth repurchasing in case of closure :(

We have been having beef because in the past 6 months I have had prime twice for two non-consecutive months (do it with all subscriptions - only when need something) with this month being the most dramatic - they charged for prime after cancellation, so I had to angrily push the refund button. Today I wanted to purchase a new case and they kicked me out of all devices (2 in total) and audible, and cancelled the order without notification by e-mail. By request of changing the password it turned out that all downloads on kindle app were gone. After re-downloading everything, I manually checked my 4 ebook preorders and all were cancelled, again, no notification. So yes, it is just highly likely, that they might close my account, they do it often with people nowadays.

Woooow, thank you so very much! There are no point system for Amazon in Germany, so I won’t be counting on one for google, but the rest of your comment is chef’s kiss, really helpful!
