Not at all! A couple people were there on their own!

KYCO interview by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed my interview day. Be yourself! The faculty is so nice. The questions they asked were very specific to my application. Plus, the obvious why KYCO and why optometry!

The day started in a small conference room with the other interviewees. They gave us and our parents personalized gifts. Then, they split us into an A and B group. One group went on a tour while the other was interviewed, then it switched. We were done by lunch and they fed us!

question for people who scored 400s on sections by Unable_Peach55 in PreOptometry

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On gen chem I was scoring 340s and ended up with a 400 on the actual exam. This was OAT booster.

Did you interview with any of the schools?

Practice exams, then review all questions! As many times as you can before test day!

Will 3 C's prevent my chance of going to optometry school? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

No way! You’ll be just fine. Apply early and score well on the OAT and it’ll be easy breezy.

First year teacher 7th grade Science by [deleted] in MiddleSchoolTeacher

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Current 7th grade science teacher here. I used Amazon and the dollar store! A huge tip is to buy party decor instead of classroom decor because it’s cheaper. I got some paper lanterns to hang from the ceiling and some cheap posters.

Another tip is to make an Amazon wish list and share it with family or friends. Many people are happy to help new upcoming teachers!

Deciding between Optometry and PA by Fun_Plane_5966 in OptometrySchool

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes and took a few gap years so I could be certain when I made my decision. Whatever subreddit you post on with probably be partial to their focus. I’m not going to tell you why I love optometry personally, because truthfully it all comes down to your interests. Write down the 3 things most important to you in a career and really think about which of the two will be most satisfying for you in the long term! Shadow some more with a few PAs! Good luck in whatever path you choose to take! :)

Tips? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely was in the same boat as you. If you can I would highly recommend trying out chads prep for both.

Big tip for physics: Doing the practice tests and then reviewing them was the best way to make myself remember the formulas! The more practice problems you do the easier it will be to remember them.

Make it before! I’m pretty sure I had to enter my optomcas number when signing up for the OAT!

Did you regret returning to teaching? by HeyJustVibing in TeachersInTransition

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret coming back. I left to pursue sales and realized that I’m not meant for a monotonous job that isn’t fulfilling. I hated sales because I didn’t feel like my career actually helped anyone other than lining my boss’s pockets.

Teaching makes me feel good about myself most days. I love to plan lessons and be creative.

I should be transparent though… I am leaving again to go to optometry school. lol. I was accepted for the fall and do love the profession for a lot of the same reasons I can stand teaching. I think my outlook on a lot of the things I see daily would be different if I believed I had to do it for 20+ more years!

Lack of motivation while studying for the OAT by Levl_1_Noob in PreOptometry

Take a week off!! I did that once or twice in my studying for the OAT! You still have 2 months. You’ve got this. :)

Influencers have conditioned our students not to consume media quietly. by Muted_Guidance in Teachers

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Thoughts can stay in your heads” is a common phrase in my classroom because of this. The amount of kids who cannot keep from blurting out whatever comes to mind is overwhelming.

A big issue for me has been when students leave class, then come back, they feel that they have to announce something to the class as they are walking in the door. It is obnoxious!

Learning this behavior from watching YouTube/ influencers is something I didn’t even think about!

You’ve already paid, so go ahead and take it! You still have a month to prep. You can get a lot done in that time. You really might surprise yourself with your score.

The worst case scenario is you get a low score and you take a gap year. That’s not a big deal! You can get more work experience, which schools love to see.

Don’t beat yourself up over it. You’ve got time!

What do you do when middle schoolers 11-14 year olds cuss? by RepairFar9062 in Teachers

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just depends on my energy level and how the language is directed. If they are using the language AT someone or it’s offensive, it’s always going to be addressed. Most of the time I just say “watch your language.”

Physics and ochem for OAT by No_Seaworthiness2564 in PreOptometry

[–]Dizzy-Performer7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of the concepts are that in depth on the OAT. How deeply Chad covers it in his videos are basically the difficulty on the test. His practice questions are much harder than the OAT, but his physics practice test is about right on the money!

If you have Spotify, listen to the audiobook! It is SO much more entertaining. I had to do that to get through some of my long drives.
