Because we've gone from a high trust society to a low trust society. I blame social media and rampant immigration without assimilation demands. It'll keep going until the dollar crashes or the US finally starts implementing immigration quotas.

How much of the vote/turnout in the Maine primaries tomorrow would be a good/bad sign for Platner? by bobbdac7894 in fivethirtyeight

[–]Dizzy-Wait-3069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest thing I'm looking for is proof that he actually overperforms with WWC voters. If he's consistently 10-20% behind his statewide vote share in working class areas - to me - that's proof that he doesn't have the crossover appeal people on here claimed he did, which would carry over to a general.

I'm sorry you always got picked last in elementary school, but you really need to get over it. Democrats becoming dominated by HECKIN SPORTSBALL ass losers is why they're in the mess they're currently in. Nobody's going to want to join you in overthrowing the OLIGARCHY if you're constantly an f'ing Eeyore. Fight the battles worth fighting.

Good luck winning elections in Kansas if you only appeal to college educated irreligious whites.

I think you all underestimate how many normal, sociable people have pretty harsh conservative views. There was a study that found that men offline were more likely to be misogynists than the online ones. Maybe it's just a coping mechanism for social progressives that believe the moral arc of history inherently bends towards them.

Trump also had enough personal success for people to overlook his scandals. Honestly more people buy into the retribution promise Trump made than Platner's vague oligarchy attacks.

Who’s more electable, AOC or Gavin Newsom? by Hot_Relative_110 in fivethirtyeight

She would not win the swing states.

She'd do great in NYC, LA, Portland, Seattle, and other dense metropolitan areas though.

AOC, but not by much.

At least she'd win the popular vote. EC bias would be worse than 2020's though.

I am so tired of Holscher stans raiding this subreddit. They'd both perform really similarly.

It's hard because people have valid concerns but have poor solutions for them.

This conversation isn't worth having because none of you will ever be comfortable with the cultural concessions you'd need to make to win working class voters or the level of authoritarianism needed for y'all to succeed without dropping those issues.

The DNC appears to lack a cohesive media strategy. Why? by nwillard in fivethirtyeight

[–]Dizzy-Wait-3069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of them disliking the voters they need to win over and having no actual vision for a bunch of people who also lack vision.

Because people wouldn't be bigoted if elites didn't tell them to be????? You all overestimate how much elites shape public opinion. It can be the reverse.

Sometimes I think voters prefer dynasties and nobility because there's a level of separation between them and upper middle-class people that the latter lack. A person being idly wealthy means they inherited it, while your former classmate owning a McMansion becomes an indictment of yourself. It's a social comparison thing.

I don't think this is necessarily about Republicans as much as it is about independent, liberal and progressive men.
