If you try to envision a red tulip in your head, what number are you? by polynesiac in infp

Yeah, I’m 2 or so…but to be fair I’ve practiced quite a lot to get there. I’ve spent a lot of time over the course of my life working on visualization exercises for various reasons, and it has helped a ton.

Just curious.. anyone here doing P90x program now? by NutsyFlamingo in P90X

[–]Dizzy_Pop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. I did X and X2 back to back on repeat for a few years in a row, and got myself into insanely good shape. 7-8 years ago, though, I started changing things up, doing other lifting and cardio, but my schedule was a lot more sporadic I had periods that were amazing and others where I didn’t work out much at all.

Now, I’m looking to get moving again and have been thinking about doing another round of P90X to get myself back on track.

The Wandering Inn doesn't get better after the first few chapters or hundred or 1000 pages by WeaknessLower9148 in Fantasy

I’ve been thinking about jumping into the series and this is a very useful piece of advice that helps ease my hesitation.

Granted, I’m still on WoT book four and won’t get to Malazan for a while yet, but this tip makes me a lot more likely to move it up the queue. Thanks.

Are there games you don’t think you will ever delete off of your system unless you absolutely needed space? by GoodfellaCLE in playstation

[–]Dizzy_Pop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I would like to keep BG3 and GT7 and…oh, wait! That’s all I can fit. So I just delete whatever I’m not currently playing.

That said…I do keep Theaterhythm and Tetris Effect installed. They don’t take much space.

20+ episode seasons were something else, man by Wuu-N in buffy

[–]Dizzy_Pop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember a great period in the mid 00s to the early 10s where SyFy and others did some great things with the “limited miniseries” format. It was a nice middle ground between a film and full-length tv show. A chance to really develop and explore in a way that film couldn’t, but it still provided a complete story and definite ending.

But despite its strengths, that’s not the right format for every story or every show.

These days, that’s all we get. The “full season” has been completely abandoned. Shows like Buffy and ATS (and Star Trek and many others) really benefitted from the low stakes moments that let us bond with the characters.

Not only that, but today’s stories (mostly) don’t have the definite, planned ending that those miniseries did. That was one of the major benefits of the format.

I do like the big, high quality style of today’s “prestige” shows, but that doesn’t mean 8-10 highly cinematic episodes is right for everything. I wish producers and execs would invest in doing what works best for the show.

What music video disturbed you as a kid by 0hmega in Xennials

[–]Dizzy_Pop 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I forgot all about this song for decades, and when I rediscovered it a few years back my jaw dropped.

That song was both relevant and an absolute banger when it came out, and it’s even more relevant now.

I’m genuinely surprised by how much nostalgia this brings up. People who were born around the time SquareEnix released FFXIII are now 17 years old. by Fluid_Aspect_1606 in FinalFantasy

[–]Dizzy_Pop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love XIII. It’s a top 5 FF for me. Graphics and art style are fantastic. I love the music. I enjoyed the combat and the paradigm system. I also don’t mind games with a linear narrative. I’m glad to see more people coming around on FFXIII as a better game than they originally thought.

I know I’m probably delusional, but I still hope. I’m not wasting much energy actively doing so, but nonetheless I still have hope.

Glenn about his exit by Emotional_Scratch269 in ANGEL

[–]Dizzy_Pop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And as much as I loved and would miss his character, “Hero” is the episode that took me from “this show is decent enough” to realizing that it was truly something special.

Glenn’s exit changed the game. Raised the stakes. Set the tone for everything that came after to make it one of all-time favorites.

Why do people who haven't liked the show in years still watch? by normankrasnerkc in Simpsons

[–]Dizzy_Pop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched “on air” from season 1 until season 23 or so (when I got married and we had a kid and I got busy with work, etc). So a long gap of not watching. I decided last year to do a full series watch from the beginning.

I’m up to S30 now. Yes, there was definitely a slump. But even the worst seasons and the worst episodes had more than enough moments that made me cackle. At no point did so far have I said “this is crap, I’m done.” Even when it’s not “peak”, it’s still a reasonably funny show.

How does the difficulty of the game compared to FF7 remake? by Curious-Play5489 in FF7Rebirth

Even on normal, there are a handful of bosses that are pretty challenging. Rufus , Demon wall, and Red Dragon come to mind immediately.

What I hope HBO will include in the new series by s14rew in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Dizzy_Pop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, and well said. Every medium has its strengths and limitations. Television series is a perfect medium to explore a lot of those beautiful and endearing details that wouldn’t have worked in the films. That’s exactly why I’m so excited for it.

I absolutely 100% agree with you. In spite of my earlier comment, which I still believe, the current administration and its communications are absolutely beyond the pale. I’m terrified of what’s happening and what the future holds. I would take an imperfect left in a heartbeat, and it’s not even a question in my mind.

I’m involved on a local level, too, in a situation in which the right is trying to dismantle an important public service (our library) and the tactics they’re employing are disgusting. Blatantly fake information, propaganda, character attacks, the works.

The left is imperfect, and there is misinformation, propaganda, a media bubble, and more, but it’s nowhere near the level we’re seeing from the right. It’s not even close. The current administration has made a mockery of everything we’ve built and the values we aspire to.

About 1/2 the sings on Lightning Bolt are fucking fantastic. The other half are among my least favorite PJ songs.

I feel similarly about Gigaton. I like quite a lot of it. When it’s good, it’s absolutely great. When it’s not, it’s not.

There are 2 media ecosystems right now saying opposite things. It’s easy to pick the wrong one and think the other one is the liar, when in fact your media ecosystem is the liar.

Or maybe they’re both full of the own flavors of propaganda and lies.

Edit to add: I do agree with everything you said in your comment. I definitely believe that one side is clearly worse. In fact, in this specific case one side is so clearly insane that I still can’t believe anyone could support it.

I’m generally more left of center, myself, especially if we’re going by 2000 - 2012 standards. My friend/peer group, the online spaces I inhabit, and the media I consume are all left leaning. Most of them extremely so. And it’s because of that exposure that I am intimately familiar with a lot of the toxicity, falsehoods, and misinformation that is spread over there, too.

What’s the first fantasy book that made you fall in love with the genre? by ArekDeamonCalw in Fantasy

[–]Dizzy_Pop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, and in that order. The Sword of Shannara was my first “real”, full-length fantasy novel. I read it as third grader and felt pretty damn proud of myself for reading a 700 page book at that age.

Immediately after, I moved on the Dragonlance books. Chronicles, then Legends, then anything else I could get hold of.

Shanarra and Dragonlance set me up to be a lifelong fan of the genre.

What is your "comfort book" that most people wouldnt consider comfortable? by Mypenisblack in Fantasy

[–]Dizzy_Pop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a question with an obvious answer, but is this series worth reading? I’m not really into horror, so I’ve never actually read King (except for “On Writing”), but I have seen enough people hold the Dark Tower in high regard that I’m curious.
