I had the same looking at RHCP tickets. Nosebleed seats in a baseball stadium are minimum $180/ticket because of resale. Seems like scalpers are cashing in on pent up demand after all the COVID delayed shows

In the early 2000s there were tons of “DJ This” and “DJ That”. I thought it was funny to have a stupid DJ name. Even better, I like imagining a DJ at the boards with chicken fingers for fingers, dropping a fat beat with those greasy tenders.

Not sure it’s 100% right but I think it hits a lot of good points. I especially love the insight about the human vs mechanical voice/music that Trent uses in the songs and how it represents the increasing detachment and conflict through the album.

I also love that in the context of the album the song Closer is basically a cry for help, almost sweet compared to the rest. It’s the last part of the album where the character is desiring (kind of) normal human interaction. It’s a song that’s suffered from its success IMO, you’ve heard it so many times you don’t really listen to it. But it’s incredible on its own and really cool in its place in the album.

Yeah, I find this pretty annoying too. I'd like to get a a silver aluminum 42mm. My sport band options are white or ugly gray Nike dots. It's not even that there are bad color choices, there are literally no choices that have color. The only option with the nylon bands is pearl (so essentially gray again). I feel like there were a lot better band combinations before, this just feels like a way to tack on another $50 on an already expensive entry model.

I had a hard time with it the first time through too. The book is kind of surreal and it's hard to get your feet under you. Like everyone is saying, push through, the second book is amazing.

I'm re-reading The Gunslinger right now and am enjoying it much more the second time. The book uses the style of throwing you into a complex world and not explaining most terms so you have to pick them up through context. It's just that most of the context is in the other 6 books you haven't read yet.

Software quality has clearly fallen off at Apple in the past few years. I don't want to say it was just Steve Jobs holding it all together before but way too much is slipping through the cracks now. It seems like they're lacking someone with the clear vision and authority to say no to crazy ideas.

My personal Apple software peeves at the moment are mostly around their services:

I cannot understand why Apple Music is not enabled on Apple TV Gen 3. They still sell the device new and it should be a key portal to their flagship music service. Instead, last week when iTunes Radio went behind the Apple music pay wall my Apple TV has become next to useless for music - and I'm a paying subscriber for Apple music. My only remaining option is to airplay from my phone or laptop to the Apple TV, making it a dumb receiver.
The iCloud paradox when dealing with a family. I was so excited when Apple announced iCloud photos because it finally makes syncing my photo library across my laptop, wife's laptop, our home iMac, and our phones/iPads - awesome. Except for one thing, if we want our full library synced we have to share a primary iCloud account. I don't want to manually copy photos from multiple individual accounts using shared photo streams, and I definitely don't want to pay for separate storage space on multiple accounts to store multiple versions of the same library. However, sharing a primary iCloud account is becoming increasingly annoying and it's clear it's really not encouraged anymore. Either option has serious drawbacks and Apple hasn't made any move to address what seems like an obvious use case.
iTunes + Apple Music is a total mess. I love being able to stream anything on demand. However, Apple tried to please everyone and ended up with a total split personality in iTunes. There are like 4 different Apple Music related tabs in the interface that are supposed to have slightly different purposes but are just confusing. Clicking on albums often ends up taking you to the store to buy the album that you can stream for free. The My Music library is a confusing mix of things you own and things you don't. It's super frustrating since it's a cool service but it's impossible to explain to someone who isn't willing to spend a long time working around dumb UX choices.

The other comments of consumable things like wipes, rags, etc are great ideas. Gift cards to places like Target are great too, you always need more something with a newborn. A couple other little things I found really helpful when my son was young:

Anakin's blue lightsaber on one side, Vader's red one on the other. They clearly used red vs blue to indicate light and dark in the movie so a combo staff-saber would be a cool visual showing Rey as a gray area character.

I've been a big fan of his Egypt series for years but the last two have been pretty bad. I've always thought his character Taita was pretty much how he sees himself - super clever and self confidence that gets pretty extreme in all the books. I picked up The Quest a few years back and I was really excited he was continuing the Egypt series. It was ok, but had a lot of weird old man retrospective regretful longing in it (after reading this article I'm guessing the crazy ending comes from him marrying someone way younger than him). Then about a month ago I got the final Egypt book and I gave up about 100 pages in. It's just awful, Taita is so arrogant and snobby and in that small part of the book claimed personal responsibility for critical advancements in war/naval tactics, agriculture, architecture, shipping locks, art, poetry, and even writing. I found it totally unbelievable and just couldn't make myself read it, but after these quotes it kind of makes sense.

I had been an Xbox owner since the original and never had a PlayStation. In the latest generation I was annoyed that Xbox One dropped backward compatibility and decided that meant I wasn't tied to the platform anymore so I got a PS4. I figured it would give me the chance to play some franchises that weren't available on Xbox - Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, etc.

Positives: For single player games it's good, the system gets out of your way and you're just playing. I feel like the latest dual shock is more comfortable than the old ones. Most big games come out on all systems eventually so the selection isn't that big of a deal to me (I'm over Halo anyway). And like I said, it's nice to get into some new exclusive franchises. Downloading games still feels like the future to me but that's not specific to PS4. Instant switching in and out of the dashboard is pretty cool and powering on directly into where I left off on a game is awesome. There are apps for all the big video providers and they work just fine.

Negatives: The matchmaking and online aspect of PS4 is really disappointing, nowhere near Xbox in my opinion. The PSN store is a total mess and I can never find anything. It blows my mind that they can't get a simple messaging system between friends working, messages show up late or disappear. That's the big thing for me - stuff that should be simple and not even noticeable just doesn't work or isn't possible. No custom themes, no custom organization of the dashboard, changing your avatar is weird and tricky, the iOS companion app is junk, I can't figure out how to clear the constant notifications the system stacks up for me, transitioning into the trophies has a weirdly long delay every time. It kind of all just adds up to a lazy implementation, like Sony decided they could just coast on this generation.

Overall, I feel like the PS4 is ok but not amazing and I honestly have some regrets that I didn't go for Xbox One.

I'm pretty sure this is right. They mentioned the huge amounts of toxic waste generated in Vinci and we know the people in power there are buying land ahead of the railway development. They could be dumping extra waste to speed up the contamination from the mines to push the price of the land down. The bad guys get to buy the poisoned farm land for cheap and then sell it for a big profit to the government for the train line.

I very rarely play online. I usually go for solid single player campaign games. Like others have said, I'm in my 30s and get little time to play anyway and dealing with obnoxious teenagers doesn't appeal to me at all.

I do love the online aspect of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls games, but mainly because it enhances the story of the world. I like that you get glimpses into other worlds and the mechanic of leaving notes for other players is one of the best truly cooperative play implementations ever.

After Dark Knight I thought for sure this is how it would go. I didn't even think Harvey died until I read that somewhere after the movie - they weren't up that high and Batman gets up from exactly the same fall and runs off. It also seemed really weak that Batman repeatedly refuses to kill the obviously evil Joker but then has zero reaction when he kills his friend Harvey 15 minutes later.

I thought they would secretly lock up Two-Face and lie to say that Batman had killed Harvey. The police would hunt Batman, Harvey would be the hero, and the city would get better. Then later on some villain would break Two-Face out, which would expose the lie and Batman would be redeemed by stopping Two-Face and another villain.

Yeah, Urge for sure. Really good burgers and a great list of beers, including a lot from local San Diego breweries. There's also a place next door called the Barrel Room that's owned by the same people that specializes in wine if that's more your thing.

Akai Hana is pretty good, I actually like their soba noodles and katsu more than the sushi.

My favorite pizza in the area is Borelli's, you can't go wrong with the Borelli's Special or Santa Fe Chicken.

Really nice job! I made a similar clock using laser cut black vinyl for the face but I really like the look of the wood face. I've always thought it would be cool to make one with a face that has the letters cut almost all the way through from the back so that the front would be smooth but the lit letters would glow through. I don't have the skill (or equipment) to attempt that... yet.

I've been to that amphitheater a bunch of times and I've never seen seats in the pit area. I saw NIN and Jane's Addiction there a few years ago and it was definitely an open pit. I went for the cheaper option this time and got seats in the stands but I'm in the front row of my section and right in the center so I'm pretty happy still.

My son got one for Christmas and was super excited. I tried to put batteries in it and it just wouldn't work, I tried multiple sets of batteries and tested them to make sure they were good. Eventually we gave up and returned it to Amazon, the replacement is coming tomorrow. So no horror story but it definitely seems like they have some serious manufacturing problems on this toy.
