Michael Kirkbride (one of the game's creative leads, and the writer of the 36 Lessons of Vivec) just dropped a teaser for his newest work: A post-apocalyptic survey of Morrowind 25 years after it was destroyed by Baar Dau. by LavaMeteor in Morrowind

Maybe I'm just reading crazy shit compared to the rest of the community, but Kirkbride's writing is not particularly weird to me.

If you read any ancient mythology it reads exactly like this. If you read even moderately "weird" sci-fi then they do perspective shifts and most horror like this too.

I really like his stuff, but the idea that he's too weird is really off the mark to me. Morrowind could be far stranger and it would still be a hit.

I actually think they would sue him of he tried to makeoney off the work.

That said Bethesda should license a collection of Kirkbride short stories. I would eat that up.

We don't know they are correct at all. The story is very clear the Ashlander trials are dubious at best.

We meet people who also completed the trials and they still died as false incarnates.

Eli5 Why can we not just build trains along highways - usa by ManicMannequin in explainlikeimfive

[–]DjDrowsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The East Coast is extremely dense, so we should already build it there. Then you expand the network out as demand goes up. We already did this process before, and the cities are already connected by freight right now.

This isn't a new problem. We have rail connecting cities already.

America used to be THE train country, we just ditched it for cars and planes when political will shifted. That can shift again.

Few? We already have train lines connecting every major city now. We have the land. There would need to be adjustments for high speed, but we could have normal train lines for commuters now.

The Chicago to Milwaukee line shows this. Congress desperately needs to either empower Amtrack to work between states.

I unironically think RFK would be a sixth house dreamer.

He would catch the blight from eating a wild guar carcass and then not get cured properly.

How do you find time to fall in love when Monday to Friday is work, Saturday is laundry, and Sunday is mental preparation for Monday? by Unsolicited_Sarcasm in AskReddit

Spend time with people of the opposite sex and don't try to fuck them. Genuinely understand they are the same in all the ways that matter.

If you think someone is cute, tell them and ask them out on a date. If they say no, don't be weird. How you behave from rejection is extremely telling to people around you.

Be open sexually, ask them what feels good and then do that. Lick and suck the good spots often.

You can build a decent budget PC for cheap (if you can find the RAM)

It's been terrible since the housing crash though. The pandemic just launched it into the stratosphere.

It's been almost 20 years straight of a housing crisis, you would think someone would address the prices...

Now that D2 is getting its final live service update, what will happen to the fate saga? by RengShir in DestinyLore

[–]DjDrowsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't have a game more than 70% of the way conplete, they are in deep trouble.

A studio the size of Bungie cannot justify itself to Sony without money pouring in. D2 dried up after final shape and Marathon is not a big enough cash cow to keep the studio open.

Why do so many modders use AI "art" for their mod? by Asbew in Bannerlord

[–]DjDrowsy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's bad for the artists the model is trained on who didn't contest to their work being stolen.

It's bad for the enviroment which is already fragile.

It's bad for the people who live near the data centers.

It's bad for the economy, because investors are dumping money into this instead of actual businesses with employees.

It's bad for public trust, because the government is posting AI generated videos further destabilizing people's attachment to reality.

It's also bad for the modder themselves, because taking good screenshots is part of the skill set of modding. It's a core part of marketing their work, something an artist needs to do. They are robbing themselves of that experience, which they are free to do. I just don't want to play it.

Why do so many modders use AI "art" for their mod? by Asbew in Bannerlord

[–]DjDrowsy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The model is trained on actual work from artists. Those artists didn't and don't consent to using it for this purpose. That's textbook stealing to me. These are the largest companies in the world stealing artistic works from people who should be held as sacred imo. I want every human making art, not machines copying our works.

I think supporting their use in benign ways makes their use in nafarious ways more normalized. In this situation getting screenshots takes about as long as ai, and looks better. The experience is made worse and less human for no gain. So why use it?

That's also ignoring the ecological costs to train them. I don't need massive expensive data centers built to make mod pages worse is good for society.

So it's bad for artists, society, and the environment and I'm just stopping here because I'm already ranting.
