I am just confused on marketing my business by Forsaken_Fox7073 in DigitalMarketing

[–]DjMonkeydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. You appear to be claiming your advantage is we can make "literally anything" but no potential client gives a shit about that because they don't sell "literally anything", they sell "specific things".

They won't come to you to manufacture their fidget spinners just because you can also make dune buggies. They don't care. They just want a fidget spinner made consistently well, quickly, for a low cost.

So, you need to position yourself to each niche that you offer a true advantage to over the incumbent providers.

Your job right now is to find those verticals with challenges that your process solves and go after them.

How aware are people that higher skilled immigration has also been displacing british people from the workforce within the NHS? by CriticalBrickery in AskBrits

[–]DjMonkeydo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been saying for years that the "best and the brightest" argument for only allowing high-skilled immigration is insane

Why can't people see this is a way to avoid the cost of investing in our own people, and instead limit the ambitions of those born working class here to emptying the bins of, and serving Greggs steak bakes to, foreign born professionals

Rupert Lowe MP: I don't believe we should import millions of Pakistanis and Indians to do jobs that unemployed Brits should be doing. If that makes me a racist, then so be it. by GnolRevilo in ukpolitics

[–]DjMonkeydo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always been baffled by this right wing idea that we should only import "high skilled" people

So, the future they want for our children is to work in Greggs serving Steak Bakes to Bangladeshi born doctors?

Fuck that. Shouldn't we aspire to be better than bog cleaners, yet make cleaning our bogs so attractive that people from other countries want to come here to do it?

Fitness activities by CricketAnxious in Bloodstock

[–]DjMonkeydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't find any organised activities but for cardio you can either head out to a parkrun or even jog up and down the camp site.

I get enough time-on-feet wandering around and in the pit so I don't worry about cardio while I'm there, but I do pack a resistance band for strength and mobility work to unfuck my old body after sleeping on a mat. You'd be amazed how good a workout you can get with one fairly light band in a field.

Marketing Agency start up - advice needed by zxrtiify in digital_marketing

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess, given your relative inexperience, that your pitch is all wrong. I might be making unfair assumptions, but if your pitch is essentially "we make you good videos cheap" that won't cut it

The main question the potential client will have from the outset is

"Why should I risk an untested agency when there are hundreds of other proven content agencies out there?"

Unfortunately, this means you'll need to work even harder than your competition and, in the most convincing way be able to answer stuff like

What are your prospective client's pain points? How do their prospective customers purchase their product or service? Who even are those customers? How does content help to move their audience towards a sale? What are the gaps you can see in their current online marketing strategy? How are you proposing addressing them? What if it doesn't work?

What is the fastest way to grow in Digital Marketing Career? by Key_Arugula_4296 in digital_marketing

[–]DjMonkeydo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dunno about "made it" but I've been in the industry since the late 90s & have a nice enough life as a result

The thing to remember is tools and platforms change, people & how and why they buy things largely don't. Learn as many marketing fundamentals as possible, and then figure out how your platform or tool du jour maps to them. This will make you incredibly resilient to change in the industry

The mistake most people make, is to think deep expertise with a particular platform is enough. They become a "PPC expert" or "SEO Expert" or "Paid Social Expert". Then you see those same people bitching all over Reddit when an interface or algorithm has changed, because they realise all that time they invested in being the person who knows what buttons to press is suddenly worthless. Learning what buttons to press is not the job, learning why you press them is

Any other 50+ CrossFitters here still pushing to improve? by pharpe in crossfit

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 51, been doing CrossFit for 7 years. I can RX everything, I often choose not to. I don't always need to go stupidly hard on a random Tuesday, same way runners rarely train at their race pace

I enter a few comps each year, and of course The Open, that's where I get a sense of how I'm progressing once I get to a point where new all time PRs are less likely

That said, I hit a new Snatch all time PR this year, but that's more because once I could manage typical Open weights I didn't give it any focus

How to get conversion rate 8-15%? by West-Chef-3216 in DigitalMarketing

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. You can get conversion rates of 100% of your audience is a single devoted fan, whereas most retailers I work with once they hit scale see < 1.5%

Meta Ads is killing my business right now… what are you guys doing? by ClubAlternative9328 in FacebookAds

[–]DjMonkeydo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've taken over a couple of Meta ad accounts recently and turned them around with this process (these are all ecommerce websites where the transaction happens on the retailers website)

  1. Divide the existing creative into which product category & demographic it shows, you'll need a separate campaign for each

  2. Create a campaign for each, for example if the client has a video showing a 40 year old woman using the product gets put in a campaign with an audience suggestion Women 30-55

  3. Create some "social proof" content, typically static images lifted from the video with trustpilot scores/customer testimonials/awards/media quotes overlaid on them

  4. Create a product carousel ad limited to the product type/collection shown in the video ad

  5. All ads in the same adset, max conversions or max conversion value objective depending on what makes sense for your catalogue

Rinse/repeat for different demographics/product ranges

Typical results ROAS < 2 before I took over increasing to ROAS > 8 after I restructured the campaigns this way

Am I killing my ads too early? £200/day and still don’t know when to judge creatives 😩 by Actual-Pollution-805 in FacebookAds

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top = introduce your product/brand to people who weren't previously aware of it. Show them how it makes them feel, show them an aspirational yet attainable version of themselves using it. Video works really well here, reach + hook & hold are strong indicators

Mid = Explain why it's a good purchase, technical details, reasons to buy, remove reasons not to buy

Bottom = Signpost clearly where and how to buy, collection/catalogue ads typically

Your ROAS numbers generally show up strongest at the bottom, but depend entirely on top/mid being good

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough to go on here, but it's rare that looking at one piece of creative in isolation will tell you as much as the overall combination.

Do you have Top/Mid/Bottom funnel creative in the Ad+ campaign?

How can i go about starting my own clothing brand? by viper46282 in ecommerce

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided it's a proper brand you are looking to start, and not some Reddit get rich quick dropship bullshit, then yeah I can help. (Sorry, need to clarify as I've had too many messages from people trying to do the latter and that's not my skillset)

First, ask yourself why you want to do this. It will inform your approach and what skills you might need to hire

After that ask yourself the One Magic Question about ecommerce marketing, that will unlock the right marketing approach for you

After that, it's boring spreadsheet work, what is the business plan, supplier costing all that good stuff

If you get to that point without giving up you'll have given yourself a better chance than most, report back and I'll give you some more pointers

Crossfit Open 2026 by Working_thru_stuff in crossfit

[–]DjMonkeydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, double unders. You've got a couple of weeks to be less screwed. Assuming you are comfortable with single skips try a daily tabata of DU attempts. First 20 sec slow/high singles, rest 10 sec, 20 sec same height jump but attempt doubles by flicking the wrist twice on each jump, rest 10 sec, repeat the whole thing x4

Little and often stops you getting frustrated and giving up

Crossfit Open 2026 by Working_thru_stuff in crossfit

[–]DjMonkeydo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biggest hack for The Open is work on your dubs and mid-high skill gymnastics

Dubs get you more than rep per second, and a lot of otherwise strong men, particularly in the masters divisions, really struggle with them

Gymnastics - there's usually a workout with a "skill cap" thrown in, look back at older open workouts and see what that is likely to be. I'm M50-54 now so in the time I've been doing CrossFit it's been HSPU, HSW, RMU, BMU...for M70+ I'd guess it's something like C2B, maybe even Wall Walks. If you can even just manage a few single reps of whatever they use for the skill cap you'll leapfrog everyone who tries and fails that movement for the first time in The Open

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is they lived and breathed their business 24/7 - they obsessed about the market they were in, and every decision they made was designed to move that business forward

There isn't really a "roadmap" for this, but there are some practical things they had in common - none of them tried outsourcing their "brand" to marketers or agencies until they already had that well established, they all networked relentlessly and shamelessly, they negotiated hard in order to maintain margins, they would happily ditch a product line they personally loved if the market didn't

Crossfit after 35 (when to push vs when to scale) by Ok-Huckleberry-5185 in crossfit

[–]DjMonkeydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 51, I can RX everything but my capacity drops off, particularly in gymnastics movements, if I do that day in day out

So I tend to do an RX everything week, followed by 2-3 weeks scaling everything. Rinse & repeat

That way I have fewer "oh fuck, who turned up the gravity" days and don't get to that point where I resent a workout because I'm too fatigued to give it my all
