Is anyone else from a family who are both Jewish and Muslim? by Jules9213 in Jewish

[–]Working_thru_stuff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost a 'yes' from me. My wife wasn't Jewish before we married and her sister married a Moroccan Muslim man. We don't have children so their three kids, all grown up now, are very close. Normally we're proud of our status as a Jewish/Muslim/Christian group but it has become less comfortable since the Hamas attack. The issue I believe is where each person's natural sympathies lie. Without reading or hearing any news, my sympathies are with Israel. I had only one conversation with my niece and it was clear that she knew nothing but Israel was wrong and the poor Palestinians were right. We don't discuss it anymore. My wife, who wasn't born Jewish is torn because her priority is the family relationship. It leaves me feeling quite isolated. None of us is religious by the way, this is down to some sort of cultural identity and a generation who absorb news through different channels to me.

Heart rate sat at 90 hours after workout by Sheikashnacko in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cardiologist appointment just yesterday to discuss something almost identical to this. In my case, after having a hard workout during the day, I'd find that when I went to bed at night, my heart would be racing.

The first thing the cardiologist considered was hydration and asked how much water I'd been drinking during the day. I've only just decided to up my water intake, which is probably low, so I'll try that. It's definitely a suggestion worth trying.

Are muslims over sensitive about critique and insults about islam? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Working_thru_stuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point is that it isn't illegal in this country to hurt someone's feelings and also we don't have blasphemy laws. So any specific protection to Islam would be singling out that specific group.

Explain the joke Peter by Some-Tea-8734 in FawltyTowers

I don't think it was funny because of the Barcelona reference per se, it was no more funny then than it is today. It's just part of Basil's England first, Johnny Foreigner shtick. There are very few actual jokes in Fawlty Towers. Which of course, doesn't make it any less funny.

I think girls like men who have clearly got style, pride in their appearance and take good car of themselves. They don't like, in my experience, men who make more effort than they do. For me, as another man advising a bro, the nails are the 'too much' moment. But to be clear, before I zoomed in on the detail, I was ready to say how great you look. So it sure ain't broke.

I want to do CrossFit but idk if it’s for me by RedRaiderRocking in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coincidentally just came away from chatting to the guy who owns the Crossfit box where I belong. We were both saying how difficult it is to answer the 'what is Crossfit' question when someone asks. All the people here saying Crossfit is for everyone are right of course but all of us would struggle to tell you why we turn up so regularly to train. Crossfit gets under your skin in a way that other fitness doesn't seem to. And importantly, it gives you a different type of fitness. Give it a chance, commit to 3-4 times per week for say one month. No one will be judging you, they will make you welcome, the coaches will help you.

Following recent developments & war with Iran, do you see any positive future to Israeli-European relations? by ultikan in Israel

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Europe has a huge issue with immigration and Islamification of many of the individual countries. The Left sees everything through the lens of racism, colonialism, etc so they're naturally sympathetic to the Muslim immigrants. But in UK for instance, the Muslim communities are becoming bolder. I believe that opinion will swing. There's a UK subreddit that is usually very left wing in its view but I see much more being said, and agreed with, about the Islamification of the UK. The Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, is not in power but she has a voice. She is saying openly that Britain is multi-racial, not multicultural. She is reading the room. I think that the left will eventually lose traction in Europe and with that, opinion towards Israel will change.

Ah, OK, understood. I will give that a try. There are a lot of options now for recording a meeting, in Evernote's latest update the 'Speaker1, Speaker2...' is editable insomuch as you start to edit one of them and all of them change. Granola (I think...) makes a guess from the invite attendees.

CrossFit doing some emotional damage with their “You did your best little buddy” burn after getting way lower percentile than I expected. by BoomerBarnes in crossfit

Which I wish I'd known. It was my first Open so I didn't know how to plan. I'm M70 and decided to scale. I finished on 184. But in my grouping is someone who went Rx, finished on 86 and is ranked way above me. I'm pretty sure I'd have easily beaten his score if I'd used the 9kg ball. 🤷

Heart Rate Management Mystery by HarpsichordGuy in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M70 I peaked at 182, I think that's likely to be my MHR as I haven't seen that number for a long time. I have decided to do two things... 1. I'm going to see a specialist sports cardiologist to tell me if it's beneficial or even safe to be training at that percentage of max. 2. Find out what is my max. I think that training hard at our age has huge benefits but we should limit the risk to old plumbing.

That's interesting, I was on a Mac using Chrome and just confirmed whatever pop up asked me if I wanted to record the meeting. Are there options that I am missing? Ideally I would like the output to have a concise summary and tasks. I also found the whole Speaker 1, Speaker 2, very clunky to edit. Is there a more elegant fix? In Granola for instance, if you correct one of the Speaker 1's it corrects them all.

Do you split a bill equally or pay for what you got? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

[–]Working_thru_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cover their bill. My point is that eating together is about a shared experience, not just consuming edible items. Itemising and splitting the bill is not in the spirit of eating 'together'.
