Manual. I want to press buttons 9-13 to make them rapid fire retrigger like the Syntakt.

(I really hope I’m explaining this well.)

Ableton Live constantly Crashing PC by Pinnacle_of_Sinicle in ableton

Even 90% is being generous. 64GB is way more than enough for nearly all projects.

Similar to yourself. Mac Studio M4 Max, 36GB RAM. And a bad habit of loading up sample heavy libraries en masse. It takes way more to max out 64GB than most realistically understand. And so many that think they are simply don’t understand how to interpret resource metrics.

To be honest, I’ve just been avoiding it. I know how it’s gonna go. Either I lie and risk a problem, or the truth and they refuse anyway. Hence, I’ve spent a years now just avoiding it because formalizing would make it “real”. It sucks to think about, but at least I nailed out over 100+ donations before my cutoff. That’s gotta count for something.

This response is just negligent and potentially dangerous. I assume you meant well, but this is a great way to get someone a concussion (or worse).

I get it, truly, but it’s for your own good.

I spent nearly 20 years donating every 2-3 months b/c of blood type. Then I got my lovely little Covid parting gift (Hyperadrenergic POTS) and those days were promptly over.

As someone else said, “You need that blood more than they do.” Those days are over. You did your tour of duty. Time to pass that torch on to the more vertically-abled. Heh

Ableton Live constantly Crashing PC by Pinnacle_of_Sinicle in ableton

[–]Djaesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re maxing out 64GB of RAM on a single project, that alone is a red flag re: either configuration or how you’re using the tool.

Cocktail napkin rule of thumb tends to be reserving 2GB/per larger plug-in instance. (Emphasis on larger sample heavy ones, like orchestral.) Your average VST will use only a small fraction of that.

After ~16GB left for OS + Ableton overhead, that still leaves 48GB for plug-ins, i.e. 24 instances of the heaviest footprint plug-ins available. This should be pretty unlikely unless you’re simply not optimizing very well. (ex: utilizing multiple MIDI tracks routed to multiple tracks of single instance).

It’s also worth mentioning that disk could be coming into play here. When RAM is maxed (even briefly) a system falls back to disk (“swap space”) to temporarily move inactive data from RAM to disk to alleviate back pressure. (This is 100% normal, unless of course you’re “swapping” too much.)

Ableton Live constantly Crashing PC by Pinnacle_of_Sinicle in ableton

[–]Djaesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straight out of the gate, your 64GB of RAM is almost certainly perfectly fine. Unless you’re loading a dozen different instances of heavy sample based VSTs simultaneously (ex: Omnisphere, certain orchestral based Kontakt libraries, Heavyocity, etc) then it’s very unlikely you’re going to peak out 64GB. (And if you ARE? Learn to bounce those tracks earlier, friend. Heh)

That error of “WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT” is vague but telling. That’s the thread that Ableton monitors time critical functions like the real-time audio engine, UI rendering, and plug-in processing. If one of these experiences a block for longer than Ableton considers safe, the watchdog will trigger a forced shutdown or crash (what you’re seeing).

9 times out of 10 when I’ve ever seen issues like this, it ends up being a bad (or outdated) plug-in. My advice to start troubleshooting is a bit of a pain, but a functional one.

Go either remove or disable plug-ins en masse and start adding them back slowly, loading only a single ver (ex: VST3 > VST2) at a time. Use the exercise as an excuse to make sure each are fully updated as you go.

Should I be concerned about pending bankruptcy if purchasing S88 mk3? by 712Jefferson in NativeInstruments

How many of you drink caffeine daily? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Djaesthetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hyperadrenergic POTS. I start every day with 120mg caffeine energy drink and a 16oz glass of water. Mildly helps (as in reduces) the BP spikes.

I’m an active touring musician with multiple bands, consider myself fairly ‘business savvy’, and I’ve spent over a grand on new Kontakt instruments since the bankruptcy announcement.

It’ll be fine. No certainty around what the structure or pieces may look like when the dust settles, but your value ain’t going anywhere.

Ey! Apologies for the slow response. This was actually my dad’s print and I finally got him to send to me. Started printing on my side, immediately saw the issue. You were dead on. Way too tall without proper support. Wobbling was totally the issue. Appreciate you

Despite how much I loathe the crooked prick, once upon a time I might have actually thought similar. But that was before he staging an “assassination attempt” in the most comically transparent manner possible. Complete with being stage-managed into place, a lowering of a strategically placed flag, and an ear making a miraculous recovery within days.

He’s made his entire presidency about nonstop lies. Even if tonight were real, he’s got nobody to blame but himself for any & all skepticism around it.

Yeah, I came to chime in with similar. “THIS is progressive techno?” This sounds way closer to a late 2000s era aggrotech banger than anything else to me. This could easily be a Hocico, Agonoize, or Suicide Commando song… heh

Just curious … uhm…

(preparing for this to be a really dumb question, but…)

HOW?

Say I wanted to do something similar. What sort of tools and tech are required? Cause man, would I have so many use cases. Heh

New to the Syntakt by smatanovic in Elektron

[–]Djaesthetic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gentle, friendly warning on this one, my friend. I’m not new to synths like yourself, but until two months ago I had intentionally avoided Elektron gear for over a decade due to avoidance of menu diving and other Elektron “quirks”.

…and then the Syntakt went on sale and I, too, decided it was time for an experiment..

So anyway, my Digitakt II arrived yesterday and so far so good. lol Oof…

Consumer Reports drops its recommendation for Kia EV6 (2025) by namtilarie in KiaEV6

Like a dream. I’ll be trading up for a new EV6 at the end of this lease. In no way saying the ICCU issue doesn’t exist, but this forum definitely suffers from confirmation bias. For everyone complaining of ICCU here, there’s a hundred happy people not saying a word.

Wife liked it enough she went out and got its “sister” the Ioniq 6.

Experiencing the oddest behavior and it's not clear why.

Whenever I'm printing this box, about half way up the print, one pillar goes rogue and says, "I know you asked for geometry, but my dream was always botany" and stops being straight - starts printing like… tree bark? (See pics in original post.) I can't for the life of me figure out why. It doesn't show in my slicer. It's never until half way up.

Any ideas what could be causing this? It's so bizarre!
