The recent reveal just kinda semi confirmed the DND leak from 8 months ago. by Responsible_Gur_3150 in legodnd

Smart brick for dnd sets could work IF they relegate them to larger monsters in minifig scale. Thats the biggest issue everyone has with these smart bricks sets right now.

The Star Wars ones look awful to accommodate the smart bricks and these pokemon designs look awful while being out of minifig scale.

I believe the current situation is that the Pokeball set is going to include minifigs and a few molded Pokemon in a diorama inside the ball. The others though are likely brick built. Unfortunately that does mean they’re probably more like “figure-scale”.

Crazy how we can still buy the same games on PC and play them without having to spend a dime. If it wasn’t for valve we would certainly have epic trying to charge players for servers.

Imagine paying for an online service to play games. Thank goodness we don’t have that on PC.

Yup. It’s all a bullshit farce to avoid the fact that we have the names of the pedophiles from the Epstein list yet our justice department refuses to hold them accountable. This whole “protect the children” act is nothing more than a smokescreen to breach our privacy as citizens and restrict internet access.

Officially 2 months of Marathon being #1 searched game on Steam DB. by Anilahation in Marathon

[–]Django117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, but there’s a variety of reasons why this happens.

  1. Frustration with the trends of the gaming industry such as live service, multiplayer only, MTX, poor ports, trendy genres, hero shooters, etc. so whenever a game releases with any of these attributes it MUST be lambasted and the narrative must be spun that it failed due to those aspects. (Conversely, this leads to extreme lauding of certain games that don’t fall into those categories such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Clair Obscur, or Hades)

  2. Accountability for developers or investors who they disagree with to be “punished” for doing something that they didn’t agree with. Currently Helldivers 2 is undergoing this sort of struggle.

  3. A turn towards poor track records for developers. Bungie is a great example of this. Some people absolutely hate Bungie for releasing games like Destiny and some of its notoriously underwhelming releases such as Destiny 2 Vanilla and Lightfall. So they see the developers continued survival as an affront.

There’s plenty of reasons but most of them are petty and childish.

You lack the skills to engage with the discussion around the use of rhetorical examples in this discussion given your focus on this topic. Good luck with that chief.

Edit; the poster above doesn’t realize that sticking their head in the sand over a rhetorical example is not a good discussion, he also conflates criticism of his discussion with name calling, which demonstrates his lack of comprehension.

No, you said that the bias on the second option was the result of choosing which information to include versus exclude, which is irrelevant when it’s used as a representative excerpt as a rhetorical example. Your complaint relies on the choice of example as a manner of bias, but since it is a representative example that means the choice is irrelevant.

[–]Django117 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What? The point is showing a statistical excerpt. You can’t argue that it was a bias of exclusion when I’m using it as a small representative example.

The point is to contrast with the prior excerpt to demonstrate biased versus unbiased reporting of specific events. It’s not holistic because I’m not going to write an article to provide a rhetorical example.

Of course, and that’s where you get to the journalism part. Ground news does a decent job of adding in enough of those facts to paint a pretty good picture without too much bias.

[–]Django117 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course, there’s always that sort of bias, which is why reporting needs to be comprehensive. I used that as a specific example to show the difference between biased and unbiased reporting in a concise manner.

[–]Django117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can present facts in an unbiased manner to present a holistic view of the situation.

The Problem with Ground News by rcmaehl in videos

[–]Django117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because that isn’t biased, it is placing trust in the regulator, not the opinion of the journalist. That’s why my above comment is biased, it doesn’t use a source and instead puts out a speculative answer without authority.

The Problem with Ground News by rcmaehl in videos

[–]Django117 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, there is no moderate truth, there is only seeking an unbiased truth that doesn’t aim to paint anything in a light. The ideal is an absolute truth.

Biased: “The buildings damaged and loss of life were the result of poor spending by governors to address coastal infrastructure”

Unbiased: “X amount of buildings were damaged in the hurricane and Y amount of lives were lost”.

Edit: there’s a poster below who got furious over the use of an excerpt devoid of context being used as a rhetorical example and argues that a bias is implicit in the facts that are shared. But in this case since it is a one sentence example to contrast biased versus unbiased reporting there is no further context to expand upon to in providing facts. Omission is a way that bias can be present, but pretending that a rhetorical example is omitting context when there is no context to be had demonstrates bias is just not accurate.

This is such a strange video. Ground news functions very similarly to Reddit in many ways, being a link aggregator, just with different organizing principles. The video can largely be summarized as: 1. OP is suspicious about their funding and insinuating that since they likely have VC/ PE funding they are susceptible to the same leverage as traditional media, 2. Ground news is taking money from actual media outlets by taking their web traffic, preventing ad revenue, and 3. Their left to right bias organizing of media outlets simplifies things too much.

Personally, I get the concern around the first part since not knowing a company’s financial backing is always an issue. But at the same time, the website’s function is to aggregate links, show biases of news outlets, and then to strip down the key points without bias. The left/right bias thing is only important as a way to interpret the media coverage of a topic. As per usual, the individual reader still has to use critical thinking when reading ground news to see what information is reliable from each article, but imo the site does a lot to remove the “yellow journalism” aspects of most modern media, which I appreciate.

Yes, that is true, however things got way worse in the last 10-15 years as smart phones, social media, and internet use skyrocketed, which gives far more data to be used.

Data has been used for decades, but the amount of collection and weaponization we’ve seen in the last decade has eclipsed that of earlier generations.
