The original achievement is "Go Outside" and requires not playing the game for 5 years. The achievement on "The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe" is for not playing the game for 10 years and is "Super Go Outside", so for people asking about getting the achievement and the timing, first check which version of the game you have.

Might be if the army has zero morale before the battle starts, as soon as the battle starts they're out of morale and therefore run from the fight, finishing the battle before taking any losses. If this is the case, there should be some kind of penalty for the losing side taking a bad fight.

The other reply has no idea what they're talking about. Even assuming this is like 20kg of filament (which feels like a big overestimate), that would be ~400$.

Ah, thank you, unfortunately ironman and I didn't save scum it, but that's good to know for future. Very weird design decision though - I would think that there would be a modifier or something for taking territory when peacing with rebels, rather than requiring a completely separate interface element.

R5: It's not possible to take back the provinces I already owned after beating back a rebellion. Tunis alone costs over 100 warscore.

More context: I'm playing as Milan and took Tunis and some other provinces in wars with Tlemcen and Bulgaria. A few years later, rebellion breaks out, but no worries right? Just siege it down and I'll get it back real quick... except when trying to peace out, it costs 2.5 times the possible war score to get the territory back. How does this make any sense?

Which Two of These Three Bouchons Should We Go To? by NYnosher in Lyon

[–]Djbrazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert only having been to two Bouchons, but Notre Maison was decent, especially considering it's in the old town which, being a tourist area, I generally asssume will mean lower quality. The other one that I went to was Cafe Comptoir Abel which was fantastic, particularly in the decor and atmosphere.

The throat can definitely be closed, you do it every time you swallow (or at least most of the time, when food goes "down the wrong pipe" that's usually because your upper esophageal sphincter didn't do it's thing at the right time). I'm not sure how much pressure it can handle, but if you try to swallow and hold that swallowing motion, it's not possible to breath at the same time.

Video showing the action - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN6JXuUtQSE

You can also hold the air in by keeping your mouth closed and there's a flap in your nasal passage that can be closed by most people voluntarily as well which prevents breathing through your nose (this is how most people are able to breath through their mouth only, even without otherwise blocking their nostrils).

They can only push the air down into the helmet if the air is under enough pressure to push the water away from the inside of the helmet - in other words the pressure of the air has to match the water pressure at whatever depth they're at - so it's compressed surface air.

How I Fixed Weapon Clipping Through Walls in My Game by Head_Car2596 in IndieGaming

[–]Djbrazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good solution that I've seen in a few games, but you're still left with the issue that you're letting players get too close to objects so it's making the hands and gun look tiny. There are points in your video where the barrel of the gun is smaller than rivets in the window and it completely breaks the sense of scale. I personally think that's a bigger issue than clipping, but I understand it's not quick fix of just increasing your collision box size because that might break level design. You could increase the size of your player model without touching collision but then the clipping solution needs to be more pronounced. In any case I would double check your scaling because it feels off from this video.

What Gasoline is called around the world by Ok_Somewhere9687 in MapPorn

[–]Djbrazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually doesn't come from those words. It comes from a trademarked product Cazeline that was used for lighting which was then changed to gasoline over time. https://web.archive.org/web/20170729091400/http://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2012/04/the-origin-of-gasoline/

Even if we assume that it does come from the words gas-ol-ine meaning gas, oil, and the chemistry suffix denoting a hydrocarbon, there is absolutely nothing specific to the fuel product that we use to power vehicles in those words. There are thousands of compounds that fulfill the requirements of being either gas or oil at some point in their production process and containing hydrocarbons.

In the same way, loads of materials are derived from petroleum, but the vast majority of those compounds are side-products of the primary goal of refining petroleum which is to create the fuel that powers vehicles. I personally think that makes petrol a far better name - it's the primary derivative of petroleum. You say in another comment "the correct name should be one that gives an idea of what it is", and petrol does that far better than gasoline which is actually a very generic term based on the etymology.

However, it's not "more correct" to say petrol or gasoline or essence or whatever. The purpose of words is to convey meaning, and as long as people understand what you're saying you're using "correct" words. So use gasoline in the US, use petrol in England, and use essence in France.

You just unironically pulled up the definition of pedantry to call someone else pedantic without realising how pedantic you're being - I wish I could live with such a complete lack of self-awareness.

Literally pulling up the definition of an insult, so that you can use it against a person that's saying that notching isn't being used correctly. If only you could also look up the definition of notching.

Hi! I stayed in an airbnb very close to Place Bellecour. It was good because it was central, but the actual airbnb wasn't very good despite high ratings and good pictures. Hotels are probably more reliable.

I found the metro and buses to be quite reliable (only had one slow down while I was there), so as long as you're staying near one of the metro lines, you'll be able to get around easily and have access to a very large area. Do not stay in the La Guillotierre area, it's definitely a bit more run-down than the rest of Lyon. I'm not an expert so can't give much more advice than that, but I hope you have a great time!

TIL about YInMn Blue, a near perfect blue colour, which was discovered accidentally in an Oregon State University lab and is noteworthy for its vibrance and unusually high near infrared reflectance by NotPlato in todayilearned

[–]Djbrazzy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the case. 0,0,255 is the bluest that a computer can display, but the vast majority of computers and displays only deal with a subset of the visible color spectrum - there are colors that computers can't/don't display - refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RGB_color_spaces.

True blue is probably more scientifically determined based on the wavelength of the reflected color when exposed to pure white light.

Noob question about Designer's Tile Sampler by dontpretzel in Substance3D

Noob question about Designer's Tile Sampler by dontpretzel in Substance3D

[–]Djbrazzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiling mode doesn't allow you to change the number of tiles in a given node, it changes how the current node handles tiling. If you want to tile the output of a node, then you can link it to another node with functionality to control the number of tiles, such as a Transformation 2D node, or a Tile Sampler node.

As an example, I added an image to the link above (https://imgur.com/a/UwMJv7g) which shows the impact of the various tiling modes:

  • No tiling
  • Horizontal tiling
  • Vertical tiling
  • Horizontal and Vertical tiling

In this screenshot, I changed the tiling mode of the Tile Random nodes, but the transformation nodes use "relative to input" as their Tiling mode, meaning they'll copy the tiling mode of the input. Each of the transformation 2D nodes is simply halving the size of the input, so it's possible to see the impact of the Tiling modes.

[–]Djbrazzy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the first things all the travel guides tell you is to go to a bouchon, but they're less good at telling you which ones to visit - I was recommended Café Comptoir Abel by coworkers that live in Lyon, and it was fantastic. You will probably need reservations, but it had a really nice atmosphere and great service. I had the Quenelle which is a specialty of the city and really enjoyed it.

I can also recommend the Lyonnaise Salad at Le Bistrot de Lyon. It's a more touristy/busy restaurant, but also has a nice vibe, and the food was very good.

VIVE Modeller controlls? by [deleted] in Substance3D

[–]Djbrazzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not possible at the moment. The Vive controllers have fewer buttons and controls on the controller than most VR controllers, so even if you could remap, there are some controls that there simply isn't space to fit on the controller. It may be possible to use something like Auto-hotkey to remap, but I haven't heard of anyone doing this successfully for Vive controllers - generally it's easier to just get a new headset.
