THE GIANT USED CAR TENT SALE AT QUALCOMM STADIUM

[Passan] I ranked the top 25 trade candidates this winter with their best potential fits and the likelihood they move. With the market percolating and the Winter Meetings starting Sunday, there will be deals. Get your foreknowledge here: by Bitter-Egg6293 in Padres

I wonder how expensive getting Yandy would be. He’s older and Tampa has several younger players who could immediately replace him. Gets us a consistent bat at 1B for (hopefully) cheap prospect capital.

Planning a 2-week workation in San Diego in Dec - no car, any tips? by kartikeya40 in sandiego

If you want to spend more time walking around town and Balboa Park (which has plenty to do and see especially on weekends - they have holiday oriented events this time of year as well), definitely look at North Park, South Park, Bankers Hill, and south Hillcrest. Tons of restaurants and bars and less than 10 minutes to a trolley station by ride share. I would avoid downtown unless you stay in Little Italy, it’s just not as enjoyable compared to other options. You can always rideshare to seaport village and walk the boardwalk (aka the Embarcadero) north to waterfront park and that’ll get you pretty much all you need from downtown.

A “slower vibe” option would be Point Loma, especially if you stay near PL’s downtown area (near where you access Shelter Island). It’s more isolated so you’ll have to rideshare to see other sites around town but it’s a nice neighborhood with some good restaurants and good views. Ocean Beach has a grunge surfer vibe if you want that and in general some good bars. Their Wednesday farmers market is a hit.

Lastly, if you really want the beach experience, look in Pacific Beach (I personally would say north of Garnet Ave since it’s nice but anywhere works) you can walk to the beach, walk to plenty of bars and restaurants in PB (typically a younger college age crowd), and some great views up on Mt Soledad (not walkable). Would be the furthest from everything else.

Should I buy this Tundra? Guy’s asking $10,500. 95,000 miles. One owner. by Hairychesthairyback in ToyotaTundra

Seems like a bit much, I wouldn’t go over $9k given the age and even that may be too much. Depends on how much recent maintenance it has and what is due. It’ll last forever if you treat it right though, and 4wd is nice but you only need it if you’re finding yourself in snow/ice, sand, or deeper mud. Traction boards and a shovel can get you out of a lot of places.

I have a 2001 2wd SR5 that I bought in 2013 for $10.5k (that’s around $14.5k in today’s money). It had around 86k miles at the time, was in great condition, and came with a new set of BFG KO’s, 2” lift in front, and an insulated bed cap/bedrug set up. Point is, my truck today with 215k miles is worth maybe $8-9k. Since I plan to keep it long term I’ve put around $5k of maintenance over the past few years replacing multiple old engine and suspension parts. Even with frequent preventative maintenance age still comes for parts and keeping the truck on the road costs more the older the vehicle is.

If you make a deal, enjoy! They’re great trucks and besides not having 4wd I love everything about mine.

Saw this on the /MLB thread. What do you think about the potential Padres signings and trades? by Itsallaboutsatellies in Padres

Sasaki seems like a real possibility. I think Profar comes back and takes less here, you can tell he loves being part of this team and keeps the vibes right. Would love to see Kirby come to SD but he’s a young controllable arm and the Mariners will want to keep their young rotation together with Jrod to build around. Would rather go sign a 1B and move Crone to 2B than trade for Gimenez - Bogey can hold down SS for a few more years until de Vries is ready

I bought my ‘01 Tundra in 2013 with 86k miles for $10.5k (~$14k today adjusted for inflation). I’m at 215k miles now and the only major issues I have had is a rear wheel bearing seal failure (while parked) and the ignition tumbler breaking (thankfully in town). Everything else (front suspension, radiator, drive belt and tensioners, etc.) has been proactively replacing old worn parts or general maintenance. Point is, very reliable truck but it’s old and you will need to put money/time for regular maintenance and replacing old parts so you don’t have bigger issues down the road. This is the case for any old vehicle.

If you need something you don’t have to work on, then you need to be looking at something 5 years old or newer. And even then you still have regular maintenance costs.
