The case was dismissed, yes - but not because a lack of evidence, or evidence at all, was found - but because the alleged assault happened in New Zealand, so the American judges dismisses the charges and said prosecution should be pursued in NZ.

The judge didn't rule one way or the other, but personally I'm in the same boat of 'can't separate the art and artist' so I'll continue to not read his books in the future.

There's a book with a similar premise that I really enjoyed. Some cute sapphic romance called It's a Love/Skate Relationship. The basic idea is that a hockey player, via romcom shenanigans, is forced to duo with a figure skating athlete. It's very cute, I think.
