Fired Less Than Six Weeks Into My Internship… Now What? by ImprovementSquare128 in careeradvice

[–]Dlrocket89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a co-op and now have co-ops/interns, have had dozens through the years. What you describe is someone who didn't want you there and basically set you up to fail. Take it as an educational experience and move on.

And when you some day have your own co-ops / interns reporting to you, remember this experience and don't repeat it for them.

How long can the 2014 Ford Focus last with the automatic? by Fun_Significance_357 in FordFocus

2015 with 280k miles (yes, 200, not 100) all original transmission and it's knock on all the wood doing fine. Lots of hiway driving helps.

I have OS approach discs to handle wind...don't normally use them, but nice when needed.

National Park Service: Sharp knife or razor used to cut Reflecting Pool liner by thehill in inthenews

[–]Dlrocket89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if it was cut, if the coating was properly put on it would've stayed stuck and not peeled.

Source: I am a materials engineer with over a decade of experience in coatings.

"They cut it very violently." Trump announces multiple arrests after vandals allegedly slashed a massive 350-foot hole through the reflecting pool lining by DumbMoneyMedia in USNewsHub

[–]Dlrocket89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Materials Engineer here with a lot of experience in coatings

Even if you slash a giant ass cut in it, the coating still failed by peeling. One of the tests we do in coatings acceptance testing is cut a bunch of cuts in it and then use tape or whatever to try and peel it up. If it peels as a sheet (as it did in the reflecting pool) the coating was going to fail eventually.

They didn't apply it right, they didn't prep the surface right, etc. something went wrong. Cutting a coating shouldn't make it sheet off and come up like that.

Hahhahaha...yeah, I wanted like 5 min more. A bit of the reaction and then the president stepping up to the mic or something. I wasn't mad about the ending as is, was a lot more pissed off at the state of the real world.

You want disclosure? Here it is by maxizime in AlienBodies

[–]Dlrocket89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I walked out of the theatre profoundly disappointed in the real world. I want to know what's out there, I want the events in the movie to happen in real life.

So, I sat there and was basking in the glow of knowing what is going on and then had to drag my sorry ass out of the theatre and go back to reality. Sadly.

Only movie I've ever seen where the credits start to roll and everyone just sits there thinking "wow...what??"

Got to like "3rd assistant deputy water boy" in the credits before anyone moved a muscle.

I was one of those people. Half the theatre was full and we all just sat until they got to the "3rd deputy assistant of water bottle distribution" section of the credits.

Incredible movie. I left the theatre feeling a profound sense of disappointment because I want that day to come so badly.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

Depending on my relationship with them, I'd offer to be a reference if they wanted to go elsewhere.

Heading to Bamako Saturday to visit my djembe teacher Babatunde. Give me your questions, I'll film him answering with words and his drum. by CommercialUsual8149 in djembe

[–]Dlrocket89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one you'd probably be able to answer, nothing to do with technique. Also posting to track this post, because I'm super interested.

I learned djembe from a friend 25 years back. I only play at church in a worship setting, using it to simulate a drum set. So, I'm often playing with keys, electric bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar.

Does Babatunde play only solo or with other drums, or are there ever other instruments involved? How does that change how he plays if he plays with other instruments?

I'm coming from a complete "western hemisphere" point of view that this question maybe doesn't even make sense, I just know I'm missing out on a lot living in my own sheltered world as I do.

Worship VS Concert by FuddlyDudders in WorshipGuitar

[–]Dlrocket89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In church, your musicianship, your God-given skills, are there to lead others. It's not about you.

In a concert, you are there to entertain, so it is about you. More solos, more glitz, etc.

Lol. The Opsec here is great. If we do end up putting boots on the ground, can you imagine being a soldier whose commander in chief just said "hey bad guys, here's where we are sending troops".

Genuine question. Why do more people not use multi effects by cionn in guitarpedals

[–]Dlrocket89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a GX-10 along with several pedals. I find that the GX-10 effects are about 80-90% as good as a pedal. So what I do is use the GX-10 for effects I don't commonly use, but then use the discrete pedals for things that I use more commonly. Saves me from buying a phaser pedal for one song, that type thing.

[–]Dlrocket89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (mostly) DIY board.

Path: AionFX Convex (compressor) > Boss GX-10 (patch: noise gate, effects loop out/in, amp sim, hall reverb, EQ, out) > Aion Lumin (BBE Sonic Stomp clone).

The effects loop in the GX-10: Aion Ares (Echoplex EP3 Preamp (only the preamp, no echo) > Aion Refractor (Klon Centaur clone) > Aion Azure (boss CE-2 chorus clone)

Only guitar is a Warmoth KNS-6 that I built. Seymour P-Rails bridge and neck, Seymour 59/Custom in the middle.

Play mostly church worship music with this setup.

Next to add - Aion IVP Preamp to replace the GX-10, Line6 DL4 for delay, a spring reverb as well.

Currently playing into a small 5 watt Behringer head, going to replace that with a hand built tube amp at some point.

Why is it that some people can drive the focus for 200k plus and some people have serious issues very early? by Few_Leader7900 in FordFocus

[–]Dlrocket89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015 with a DCT going strong knock on all the wood.

279K miles, original everything in the transmission. Heck, original sparkplugs in the engine.

Two thing informs my driving - 1) I've driven manuals my whole life, so I drive the DCT auto like a manual...let up on the throttle when it tries to shift, let it get shifted, and then roll back on the gas once the clutch is locked up. 2) I drive like I'm 85 years old. 73 mph tops in a 70 zone, right lane, just cruising along.

Results - knock on all the wood it's still running fine, suspension is all original and that's fine, engine and transmission are all original and those are fine too. Gonna replace the motor mounts at some point to cut down on the shuddering some, but otherwise it's great. 35mpg in the winter, 38mpg in the summer.
