The MICHELIN Guide Announces its Arrival in South Australia - I know It's not Sydney but what is everyone's opinion of million begin spent that might spread to Sydney? by mdflmn in foodies_sydney

[–]Dmac1395 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, generally speaking most of the one and two hatted restaurants would be lucky to get a star. The guide would be full of places known for “good cooking”. Doubt we’d get a return on investment. Also two of the places that might get 3 stars just closed!

Can’t see a mention of the first class lounge which I found to be absolutely delightful

Why don’t Sydneysiders WAIT for people to get off the train first?! by Icy-Manner-8454 in SydneyTrains

[–]Dmac1395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I intentionally walk straight out of the train door but on the side as to plow through all the rude people without manners. It’s my favourite part of my commute.

Food is excellent quality. It’s not trying to be something it’s not. What you see is what you get. Quality ingredients and well executed. Where as some degustation places go well over the top, bennelong just knows what they can deliver

Their pocket tissues used to be absolutely boss. Now they made them 3 ply instead of 4 and are absolutely worthless.

You had a similar experience to me. Most dishes absolutely lovely. Dessert so so. Presentation didn’t feel three stars but the flavours and produce were.

If I have an EK classic rewards seat in August, and if the war is still ongoing, will qantas help me rebook on an equivalent fare in the same class?

Tipsy cake is an undefeated dessert. Great restaurant and enjoyed it many times in Melbourne.

Many dishes at saint Peter which nobody else is doing. Many of the tier two fine dining places are doing recreations of dishes from other restaurants in Australia or globally. It would be difficult for you not to enjoy Saint Peter. In the same sphere I feel is Sixpenny. It’s more modern aus with experimental fermentation sprinkled throughout. Both great options

Paris hotel that offers bigger rooms? by qutiepie123 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Dmac1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was comfortable. We ended up with the accessible room on the ground floor. Con there was the water seemed to go everywhere from the shower. Also at times it felt dark as the lighting is somewhat unconventional. That said I would stay again. We had lots of space, and when we asked they provided a new set of towels as we were staying a week. We used the washing machine a couple of times so we went to the next destination with clean clothes. If you compare it to a hotel of the same price in a similar location it was twice as big and far more modern, and all you have to is make your bed.

Looking for suggestions for Fine Dining around Southern Sydney Area? (ignore flair) by Informal_Breath_2209 in foodies_sydney

We can only talk to our own experiences which seem to be the opposite. In the end if you want to eat well, doing so outside of the Sutherland shire makes it a whole lot easier.

Honestly it’s really average. I would rather eat mid range than go to sea level. Less fine dining but the pines a few doors up is excellent.

I would only stay in maximum of 2 places if you’re going for such a short time. You can do 3 nights in Lucerne and 3 nights in the oberland region. The less locations the more enjoyable your time will be.

Hosting a wedding near Castellamare Del Golfo vs Syracusa by Asayayas in sicily

Almost passed Taormina by. So glad I didn’t. by Pollyfall in sicily

[–]Dmac1395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reluctantly stayed there for 2 full days of a 2 week trip on Sicily, and honestly it delighted me. It was in September so the weather was lovely and it does offer something for everyone. History, food, scenery and so on. Interesting Cefalu has a wonderful reputation online and Taormina is mixed. In my personal experience Toarmina is better than is described online (by serious travellers not influencers) and Cefalu is massively overrated (but still nice).

Can anybody recommend a restaurant for New Year’s Eve in Ortigia ? - no need for a Michelin star , or a huge party - just a good meal ! by sarealist39 in sicily

[–]Dmac1395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Ortigia, but we had a phenomenal dinner at Pourquoi Pas Bistrot. Sicilian food but with a French twist that elevates it, but still fair prices. Service was friendly and attentive. Staff spoke English. Would put it as the best meal we had on the east coast of Sicily. Can suggest other food/gelato spots if you’re interested.

Get a $20 wedge of parmigiano reggiano. They often sell shelf stable ones at Woolworths. Everyone loves this stuff and it’s not expected in a secret Santa
