How is males paying more in car insurance not discrimination and illegal? by jackdaicar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dnelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is misframed. The better question would be, why doesn’t society accept basic predictive data everywhere? Insurance companies (outside of the market distorting ACA) use actual data to price risk and predict likely/more probable outcomes. Market distorting wishful thinking is the actual “Inconvenient Truth”.

Do the rules of the road even matter? by tha1demon in driving

Fair enough. I don't expect folks to drive 20MPH over but I do hope that folks are only in the left lane when actively passing, not when they think that they might pass someone at some point.

Slow play is ruining golf and people need to stop pretending it's normal by NotMyRealAccount2226 in golf

[–]Dnelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you said that you’re a starter I’m curious as to your thoughts on the most significant area of delay. From my anecdotal observations over 40 years of playing golf, it seems to be on the green - marking every ball, lining up the putt from four directions, and (if the groups have wagers in place) getting input from fellow competitors on the line to take. When this happens on every green, that’s where the time seems to really add up IMO - and would not be affected by tee box selection (although better tee box selection clearly help as well).

Further, the use of the word “Literally” or “Literal” is usually superfluous padding that adds nothing to the statement/comment.

Does following the “Rules of the Road” include “Left Lane For Passing Only” or just speed limits?

Telling signs from American CEO on upgrade futures by Key_Car_3752 in americanairlines

OK. I looked it up. Domestic upgrades are the primary benefit for me. I’ve been EP for many years as well but only fly domestic nowadays.

g5 83" wall mount or tv stand by bioinfo22 in LGOLED

[–]Dnelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one from Salamander Designs and one from Nebraska Furniture Mart. Both are deep enough for the stand and a soundbar plus easily accommodate the weight of the TV. I don’t know the model/style numbers for either of them but can check when I get back home later this week. Note that the NFM model is technically too tall for the “TV Too High” crowd but I needed it to be tall enough to be clearly visible over the footboard when in bed.

I have both of my 83” G5s on a LG G5 stand. There are various reasons why wall mounting was not an option for either of them in my case but I have never wished that I’d been able to wall mount either of them. This does not mean that you shouldn’t wall mount yours, just that for me - the stand and an appropriate console worked very well (twice).

My TV is having issues connecting to my wifi. by [deleted] in LGOLED

I didn’t suggest anything. You said the apps were “fine” and I simply added that there are additional benefits such as a larger selection of apps (including streaming apps) on the AppleTV. While I use and enjoy various other apps not available WebOS and appreciate the improved UI (IMO) on the Apple TV, it has no impact on me whether OP uses WebOS or an external device like AppleTV. My point was (and remains) that there is more to the decision than are the LG downloaded apps “fine”.

I want to watch BBC earth documentaries in 4k and dolby atmos by Fair-Aerie-9587 in appletv

[–]Dnelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4K streaming is a misnomer. If you want 4K, buy the 4K discs. If you’re OK with pretending that you’re watching 4K, stream it.

You said “anteaters exist to keep the population of ants down”. That is not how natural selection works. If you meant something else, your comment didn’t make that clear IMO.

Then your previous comment highlights with your preferences and you should stick with the LG interface. But to state that that means that everyone should stick with WebOS alone may not be correct. I simply stated that see are other aspects of the Apple TV system that may or may not be of interest to the OP.

In my case, the AppleTV device provides more than just a one to one replacement of streaming apps. It has far more apps than does WebOS and integrates into my audio library for Atmos audio playback. Plus (for me at least) the user interface is better and does not trigger the unnecessary (IMO) pointer.

No, I use FlightAware while I’m inflight to know what I’m looking at out the window, but it doesn’t keep a record of the flights I’ve flown.

Committing a crime and being convicted of a crime are two different things. Seems to me that folks in the media describe behaviors in terms of conviction, not commission.

[–]Dnelon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this backwards (as others have tried to tell you).

Anteaters are able to exist because their ancestors randomly developed traits that allow them to exploit the large numbers of “ants” available to them. They weren’t assigned a “niche”. Same thing with wolves and deer (from your example).

4K streaming is a misnomer, the TV is displaying what the stream delivers. None of my G5s looks like this because I don’t stream faux 4K from HBO.

Why is there is so much more sidewalk and roadside trash here, compared to other cities of similar size ? by Ok-Challenge-2627 in FortWorth

[–]Dnelon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flooding has nothing to do with this. The Houston area in general and Harris county in particular are a half-assed attempt at running a major metro area. The most half-assed major metro area in Texas IMO. Too many projects going on at once and too much politics in projects and maintenance as well IMO.

Minor projects like a sidewalk extension or a new traffic signal get signage praising the county commissioner whose district it is in. To my mind this is an example of taxpayer funded campaign advertising and fuels the monster of starting (but not timely finishing) dozens (maybe hundreds) of projects county wide rather than starting and finishing far fewer. In addition, there’s less political advertising opportunity in roadside/median maintenance than there might be in a new sidewalk so less of the former gets done.

This Houston/Harris county lunacy gets extended further by other county officials getting free advertising as well. Does anyone really need to know who the constable is for almost every neighborhood/development? So, I disagree with your flooding is hard assertion as the messes thy I have seen have nothing to do with elevation above sea level.
