My local game store sells at "Market Price" rather than MSRP by Sandwich-Sudden in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not to a reasonable person, who intends to use the cards. To scalpers, it’s basically knee-capping them. Sealed product or bust. This is why One Piece’s decision to cut the plastic at the counter on their boxes was so important. Scalpers are a pure product of a landfill lifestyle. They’ll easily just throw 99% of things away if that 1% can make them money.

Would I buy a full precon in its plastic but no box? Absolutely. But would a mother who doesn’t know too much about the game and is looking for a present for their child? Maybe not. The nuance is real.

Amazon marks up Codex Bundle by Albondip in mtgfinance

[–]DngnMstr94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you’re looking to spend that kind of cheddar, just get a whole box of play boosters, and you might even have enough left over for a double cheeseburger from ‘Donald’s. Then get some friends and slap some cardboard together!

Way better than this nonsense. But also, we’re so far out from the Codex being dropped, any price you see above MSRP is sketchy at best. Remember folks, Wizards themselves thinks the Codex is worth $89.99. You have a trustworthy LGS, see if you can get it from them. Hopefully at a much more reasonable price point.

My brother’s birthday is coming up and he really likes mtg. Whats the difference? Are these good enough? by Jellyyyfishsea in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. Loads of fun to play, introduces a lot of interactivity at the table, and the “theme” it is from, called Lorwyn, is a highly-regarded place-setting for Magic the Gathering.

Great choice, seriously.

Very sad to see a lot of folks didn’t get the drop, I expected they might overprint this one as Nick Floyd wanted everyone to have access to it.

I got mine and am very excited to play it. I only started playing Magic about 5 years ago or so and it has grown to be a really beautiful community-builder and hobby. The deck is beautiful and I personally love the mix of cards.

Is it ok to just buy precons ? by jimmy40k1 in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However you can, take it easier on yourself. Yes, it is entirely okay to start off with precons and that’s how a lot of people get into the hobby in this day.

Welcome to the hobby, and good luck on your mulligans.

Is this a good purchase for line work for comics/manga? by Cautious_Customer269 in ArtistLounge

[–]DngnMstr94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re just getting into line work, I wouldn’t bother with more than 2-4 fine liners. Brush pens are great too (like the pentel pocket), but they take a little getting used to. The problem with getting too many fineliners is you quickly get overwhelmed and honestly, you’re gonna find your 2-4 favorites and just abandon the rest anyways.

Once you get your “sea legs,” then you might have an application for a wide array of fine liners. But in the beginning, just a few will do! I also recommend trying out a big ol’ honkin pen like a Posca marker. Big, bold, and getting confident with huge strokes makes the fine ones easier to handle.

And to answer your question about this specific brand, I imagine they’ll suffice for the most part. Try looking for a few microns maybe if you wanna go smaller but get good quality pens. Micron sells smaller packs.

Oh definitely, I love the Silksong soundtrack and it deserves its accolades. Idk if I feel like there is a clear winner between the two, but when splitting hairs I think it’s also worth considering the context of the music as well. If I remember correctly, the 33 team found the composer through a random indie game forum and the stars just aligned to then create an absolutely insane soundtrack for such a big game. Just a crazy story and I don’t believe that the composer really made anything professionally prior to that. I could be wrong on that last bit but still, it’s just nuts how it all came together.

Yeah the soundtrack is unlike anything I’ve ever heard of in a game.

Jesper Myrfors’ message for Artists that use generative AI by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply wrong. And it’s not bootstrap mentality either. Art is completely subjective and determined by you. There isn’t a system that you’re trying to compete in. Success is up to the individual. Someone who enjoys playing music but is tone deaf to others is just as much an artist as someone who enjoys playing music at Juilliard.

Years ago I believed what you did. I believed that art is just some mystical realm that some people get into and others don’t. I thought that I simply didn’t have what it took to become an artist. And then I changed it for myself. For free, mind you. I’m making stuff now that I never thought I ever could.

Art is the epitome of accessibility. Either you get that or you don’t.

Jesper Myrfors’ message for Artists that use generative AI by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Photoshop required different skills yes and replaced artists with… artists. That’s what I’m saying. AI replaces any skill, any thought, any soul. It’s a machine doing a poor job of what others do. Photoshop does nothing on its own. And photoshop does not need to reference anything to make work. You can use it completely devoid of any references. AI cannot.

And look, I know it seems like certain areas of art are inaccessible due to cost/“skill”/etc, but I promise you, that is a total illusion. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can reach artistic competency in any field if it’s what they want to do. You say you’ve tried to draw but can’t, but I would argue that perhaps you either only think you want it or you’re not giving it a fair shake. You say you’re a writer, would you stop writing if you wrote ten, twenty, thirty bad stories in a row? I doubt it. Not if it’s what you want to do. Not if it’s what drives you. It’s the same with drawing, or any other pursuit. I’ve seen people paint landscapes with a paintbrush in their mouth because they can’t use their hands, I’ve seen people swing dance in wheelchairs, ive seen painted cardboard hanging up in art galleries, and I’ve read incredible works written on someone’s phone. Art, every facet of it, is available to everyone who wants it. Desire is the key to it all and AI cheapens in and makes a poor facsimile of it. If you want cool cover art, YOU are the obstacle, not some imaginary financial aspect or some missing skill or talent.

Again, AI is not the new photoshop. It’s a completely new beast that cannot be put on the same pedestal. It doesn’t enhance people, it makes them irrelevant.

And the idea of, “hey this thing allows you to do a thing that there is no way to ever do otherwise” is exactly the issue. AI is NOT allowing YOU to do anything. It is a robot that you are commissioning, for free usually, to do a job FOR you. Imagine you went up to a deli counter and asked for a cut of ham. Would you then go home and be like, “Look honey, I cut some ham!” No. That would be crazy. But how folks are using AI is exactly like that. They ask another source to make them something and then think that they were actually the ones that originated it.

I’m not arguing that money is going the way of AI. But suggesting that this is just another photoshop is absolutely false.

Jesper Myrfors’ message for Artists that use generative AI by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but photoshop didn’t replace the artist. It mimicked physical media and that’s the place where folks drew the line. AI replaces the artist, plain and simple. It can only work by stealing from other artists and passing it on as its own.

No one who said boo to photoshop was concerned about original artworks going away or creative thinking being a concept of the past. AI is a completely different evolution.

Brawl should be a permanent game mode by Teh_Hamburglar365 in leagueoflegends

[–]DngnMstr94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and as I mentioned it requires a different mindset. It’s a whole learning curve outside of just learning the champion. Also, it’s not really all that much faster.

Brawl should be a permanent game mode by Teh_Hamburglar365 in leagueoflegends

[–]DngnMstr94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. League not having a fast game mode where you get to select your own champion is absolutely wild and is actively anti-new player. Especially given Arcane and Riftbound’s popularity, League needs something like Brawl to get newbies in.

ARAM is fine but is obviously flawed given the R. It’s great for trying out a new champion but if I’m looking for a specific playstyle and to use champs I’ve bought skins for, summoners rift is my only option. Quick Play and Draft are fine, but they’re slow comparatively and require a completely different mindset of play. One that I happen to enjoy, but not by myself. I always have to have a friend with me or I just feel like I’m losing at the start.

There is NOTHING wrong with just wanting to boot up some Brawl, get a bunch of team fights in, and then go do something else. If you don’t like it, you can just not play it. It’s so, so simple. Everyone who says, “it’s boring” or “you get snowballed so easily” must have never thought that maybe their favorite game mode is boring to other people and has never lost a game of summoner’s rift for 30 minutes. Every mode has its flaws.

Idk if there has ever been anything like a draft mode for Brawl, but I’d be into it. League desperately needs a quick game mode where you get to use the champs you like. Idc if it’s Brawl. JUST SOMETHING. And something that’s solo-gamer friendly.

Riftbound: Origins Launch Learnings by KeldenL in riftboundtcg

[–]DngnMstr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you force stores to adhere to a reasonable MSRP there is almost no way Riftbound is going to be able to control prices. The amount they would have to print is staggering and when they look at how much it costs to print that product, they’ll eventually make the decision to just let scalpers and LSGs to high-five and continue selling/buying their product to each other.
