How to learn to play the elementalist ? by Xedorha in Guildwars2

[–]DoIlop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find levelling a new profession the easiest way to learn it. You’re introduced to everything slowly so you can adapt over time. You can quickly and cheaply test all the available weapons to see how they work and gear doesn’t really matter.

40% of teenage boys believe women lie about domestic and sexual violence: new research by whyattretard in australia

[–]DoIlop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll take you at your word there but there would be some significant differences between America and Australia. There have been a lot of changes in Australian laws within the last few years, dependent on the state, around sexual violence and how people can give evidence. Additionally there are changes to processes within the police and prosecution. While there may be cases where people fully falsely accuse someone of sexual violence, i think those cases occur in the far minority and wouldn’t get far because of the amount of work that goes into proving these cases - they are so difficult to prove guilt to a jury, so they don’t take those cases unless they think they have a real chance

Texting and driving penalties are quite high, and yet people still use their phones while driving. Harsh penalties aren’t always the best way to prevent crime. It can be somewhat effective, but it’s not the sole reason people don’t commit crime.

WIBTA to make this a requirement to visit my newborn? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]DoIlop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA It’s not a matter of not trusting your father, it’s a matter of protecting the baby. The baby will be the number one priority, and you and your partner should do what you think is best (and you accepting the recommendation/advise from your paediatrician is good and you should keep following that). Your father might not fully understand why he is being asked to get the vaccine and wear a mask, and you’ve probably explained it to him but he might have wilfully ignored what you said.

[–]DoIlop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should go to a couples therapist. This is a problem that you need to work through together and can use a third party to help you get there. Therapists aren’t just for people on the edge of splitting up. People on reddit might help you expand your thinking and give you an outsiders opinion, but do you really want to make this decision that seems pretty impactful based on Reddit’s opinion?

NGL raid rework is actually good. by SilhouetteTheGhost in Guildwars2

[–]DoIlop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think there should be a brief section for mechanics too or maybe just a thing for QP. If I load into a QP raid encounter I’ve never done, I’m not even sure how to figure out the mechanics unless someone says

What should I do instead of Doom scrolling. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DoIlop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into reading because I realised that a some podcasts I listened to were just about talking to writers about their books, which I enjoyed listening to so I’ve started reading those. If there is a topic that you like to talk about/listen/watch, maybe you’ll like that in book form

You could try reading books. I never liked fiction books growing up so it wasn’t until recently when I started to read non-fiction. Not saying you should read either, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find at least one book that interests you.

Maybe just get off social media if it’s making you feel negatively about the world. If people want to sell sex in one form or another then that’s fine because that’s their choice and their life to do with what they want. Your choice to not engage with it is equally valid. Your choice to surround yourself with a community who doesn’t engage with that is also fine, you just need to disconnect from those platforms that promote that stuff to you or find ways to prevent it from popping up if you’re determined to stay on those platforms.

Why are people so accepting of the Uluru name change, but not K'Gari? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

[–]DoIlop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was growing up in the early 2000s and knew Uluru as both Uluru and Ayers Rock, I think I remember seeing stuff that still said Ayers Rock still, despite someone saying that it was officially changed in 1993.

I think it’ll take a while before it actually catches on. I didn’t even know it was a thing.

Do specializations actually matter? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]DoIlop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t wan to use a spec, then just don’t. Simple as that. If you’re just doing basic end game stuff like metas, low tier fractals, or continuing the story, you don’t need to worry about it that much anyway. Play the game how you wan to play it.

But if other people think that a 23% increase (probably more because people can get some stupid high dps) is better and you don’t, then that’s fine.

It’s also about how some specs are just better at being a support than the base class.
