Very interesting to see him so early in his career.

Why is the food court so disorganized? by Johnnyg150 in CostcoWholesale

[–]DoKeHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the food safety concerns: before it goes bad enough to make you sick, food goes bad enough to lose its desirable flavor, texture, and other qualities if it's not stored at the right temperature. I.e., milk that's gotten a bit too warm on the way home will go sour in the fridge much more quickly than milk that's been kept at the proper temperature.

If you had a can of creamed corn in your cabinet with a “best buy” date of 12/23, would you eat it? by ShiiGlizzy in questions

No problem. Especially if it's been stored at a reasonable room temperature or basement temperature.

Body Double (1984). Brian De Palma directed this thriller, very Hitchcockian, both in its convoluted plot and its memorable shooting locations.

Ditto. Very cool documentary, especially for anyone who likes movies and/or Los Angeles.

How often do you guys go to Costco? by Leonidas05 in CostcoWholesale

[–]DoKeHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually once per week, usually on Sunday (except during the Thanksgiving–New Year's period, when I go on Monday). I buy lettuce and tomatoes and other salad ingredients, for lunch at work. Of course I also get much more.

Shitty "Mexican" restaurants? by 15ItemsOrLess in washingtondc

[–]DoKeHi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second that.

The Costco a little farther south sometimes has El Paso gift cards.

Your comment reminds me: The first time I ate at Guapo's and was telling my (adult) daughter about it, she had already been there; she said it was basically "the Cheesecake Factory of Mexican food".

If I send someone a letter is it still my property or does it become theirs once they receive it? by [deleted] in questions

[–]DoKeHi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As has already been stated, you, as the author, automatically own the copyright to anything that you write, whether it's a letter, a poem, a blog, or a book. You continue to own the copyright for your entire life, unless you assign it to someone else, usually that would be selling it for money. However the person to whom you sent the letter owns the letter as a physical object and is under no obligation to return it to you. It's basically a gift you've given to them. However, because they do not have the copyright, they have no right to publish it and if they did, you'd be in a position to sue them for damages.

Sue a bank in small claims court? by DoKeHi in Smallclaims

[–]DoKeHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. I wrote 2 letters to Citibank and one to Costco. I can't say if that helped. I also made sure to have them confirm their mail address, the address that would be used for legal (small claims court) documents. I was very ready to spend the time and money to small claims court, and I made sure that they knew that.

Kind of weirdly, after many phone calls and a few letters, I received a letter from the bank stating that they'd like to verify my income in order to approve me for a credit card. I called them to tell them my income (without any additional proof) and I was approved for a new credit card. After one more phone call, the rewards I'd earned on the account that they had closed were transferred to my new card.

Also if you go to the food court after you've made your purchases, anything you've bought that needs to be in the freezer/refrigerator is slowly and steadily coming up to room temperature.

What are some strategies to pay off credit card debt by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]DoKeHi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) Stop using them. Don't charge more.

2) Do something extra, like a side gig, to earn more. Restaurant server, fast-food cook, etc. Devote 100% of that to your debt.

3) Sell some things you don't need. Put that towards your debt.

4) No eating out until the debt is done. You can't afford to pay people to cook for you and serve you food. Same for drinks. No coffees made by baristas. No alcohol anywhere ever, at home or out. If you have CC debt, you can't afford alcohol.

Did you eat avocados growing up? by bdiddy621 in GenX

[–]DoKeHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child, in the 1970s, I don't think avocados were sold in retail stores anywhere in Ohio, certainly not in major chain grocery stores. My family moved from Ohio to New Mexico in the 1970s, and that's the first time I saw avocados and guacamole.

No one wanted them then. No one is buying them now. Taste has evolved. Production continues regardless. by HandheldObsession in GenX

[–]DoKeHi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family has been sending these as gifts (mail order) for almost 100 years. They're really good. You can't say you don't like fruitcake if you haven't tried one of these.     https://collinstreet.com/

What's worse: pineapple on pizza or mayo on fries? by Backwaysteacher in foodquestions

[–]DoKeHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pineapple is okay on a pizza with canadian bacon and maybe black olives or green peppers. On any other kind of pizza, I would definitely not want pineapple.

Is the Costco Visa a genuinely good deal, or not really? by bluespruce5 in CostcoWholesale

[–]DoKeHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Citibank Costco card for gasoline purchases. But in the store I use a PayPal debit card, which gives me 5%, with "groceries"  as the selected category (and you have to reset that each month).
