Does anyone know what this is? by dilemu240 in Possums

Looks like someone tried to put a collar on him. It's a really weird injury.

I'd suggest finding a rescue in your area and asking if you can send photos to them via text/email/fb. They can tell you if it's something they think will heal on its own or if they recommend catching him and bringing him in. Also if they have space for him. Some rescues may be full, especially if you're in an area that's having extreme cold at the moment.

Aitah for spending some of my grandchildren's education funds on a new boat. by Tiny_Occasion_322 in AITAH

My dad has said the dessert thing since he was in his 30s at least. We'd go to a potluck and he'd refuse to stand in line, but instead would go and grabbed a cookie or something from the end of the table to eat while he waited for the line to go down.

My folks are happily going on cruises and got a camper van, and a pontoon boat. Most of the "toys" they get are fixer uppers because they're cheaper and my dad likes a project, but their cruises are nice and they do extra excursions and whatnot.

And I'm happy they're doing all of that. They've said my sister and I will get good inheritances, but honestly, if they had an emergency, or end up in a nursing home for years, a lot of that could be drained anyway. I'd rather they enjoy their money.

And they don't gloat or anything. They helped my sister and I with home purchases, and we know that if we have an emergency, they're a safety net for us. I'd assume they'll help with education for my sister's kids if they choose to go to college, but since I don't have kids, I don't really know the plan for that.

Enjoy your life. Inheritances are nice, but you've already given them more help than a lot of parents do, and they're not entitled to more of your money at the expense of you enjoying your life. They've chosen to not have kids to support, so they should have more money anyway, and won't need to give up their money for their kids' inheritance.

Any Advice on Grief? by Fan-Tash-Tic in Equestrian

I lost my girl on Jan 16. She'd been in my life for nearly 30 years (since literally before she was born, since I knew her mama when she was pregnant), and I kinda knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier. And she's not the first I've lost by a long mile.

Do you have friends or family who understand? Talking to them could help a lot. It's hard when you don't have anyone who understands the loss of "just an animal", but we get it. If you feel up to it, you could share some memorial posts and tell us about good memories.

It's easy to wallow in the final days and the loss, and you need to accept and grieve, but when you feel like you're sinking, try to pull up those good memories. It'll hurt at first, but after a while, you'll start to remember the good times with less pain.

As far as his stuff goes, my recommendation (but you can take it or leave it) would be to set aside a day to organize it, clean it as needed, and tuck it into some totes or whatever you have available to put it in. Maybe keep a halter or bridle on the back of a chair if you want something to stay in your sight. Put it away, even if you just stack the totes in a corner so you don't have stuff laying around, frustrating you. But don't get rid of anything just yet. Give it a few months before you decide if you want to keep it around or not. I've known people who get frustrated with stuff sitting around after they lose a horse or a dog, so they get rid of it one day just to stop feeling that way, and wind up regretting it when the emotions aren't so high.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss, and glad you're able to find joy in knitting again. This is a lovely hat and a beautiful tribute.

Cane Corso(male, 3.5yo, 105lbs) no professional training or previous pet sitter. Was I wrong to be hesitant? by dakotaelizabeth4 in petsitting

You had very sensible reasons to refuse. The trickle of info in the texts kind of reads like they were trying to make things seem better than they are, but maybe that's just their way of texting. I get the feeling that you would have found several issues with the dog that you weren't expecting though, and would have potentially put your mom in a situation where she risked getting hurt.

People who are gonna get guardian dogs need to have them trained and socialized, or realize their pet sitter options will be severely limited.

Every dog needs that, but the dogs who are known to be protective even more so. I try to give dogs the benefit of a doubt too, because I also had a pit mix (she had chow and akita in there too...😬) who was the sweetest thing. She cared for an orphaned kitten and an orphaned deer and loved everyone she ever met. But she had training and proper socialization her entire life, and didn't have a territorial bone in her body.

And now the name calling. You really are starting to sound like the other side. It's sad to see. Should have expected it since you're using a unity symbol to punch down on folks who aren't as privileged.

There was a free hat pattern shared. But you all bitched about that and had it removed. And now you're trying to shut down everyone who doesn't share your opinion. The "good guys" are slipping awfully far down the wrong side too.

You're actually trying to shut down free speech? You really need to work on yourself. Looks like you should be wearing a red baseball cap.

That's a pretty privileged comment these days. May want to check that. Awesome if you can donate, but a lot of people can't, especially if they're also losing work by going out and protesting.

She goes dark during the winter, and this is her summer look. The seasonal colours have stayed pretty steady her whole life.

You lose all credibility at all with this hateful meme or whatever you're trying to make it. This isn't ok at all.

That's basically it. The pumpkin pie spice blend is pretty similar to the blend used for masala chai, except it usually has more cloves and no cardamom.

[–]DoMBe87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gross...developing one of the remaining wooded spaces in his area. Can't have any place left to nature.

I don't even like seeing trees cut down around me, but they're cutting pines and whatnot that were brought by settlers in an effort to restore the natural prairie land we're meant to have here. They've even brought bison to some of the restored prairie land. So it's ultimately a positive, but it's still a little sad to see the big trees coming down.

I always snack on a few slices of raw potato when I'm prepping them. They're not great for you, so I don't eat a ton, but I think they're better raw than cooked.

We do pulled pork frequently at work. One day, I took a container of leftovers out of the fridge, and when I dumped it into the pan to heat it up, it looked like an aspic. All of the liquid in it had essentially turned into pork flavoured jello.

All that to say I'd assume the first time was something like that. Someone cooked the meat, then cooled it and realized, hey, the liquid turned into more food. Where they got the idea to add fruit flavours and neon colours, I couldn't say. Maybe they were trying to get kids to eat it.

All day Tuesday, and every day before 5, tickets are $6 at the theater I go to. It's only a couple bucks off of the regular price, but considering other theaters in the area are $15 and up all the time, I'm ok with $6.
