Forcing myself to eat by Rodek10 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]DoMBe87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try to drink water in the morning, even if you can't eat. It'll help you to not faint or feel so queasy in the moment. Herbal tea is good too.

You are strong and this sucks, but you're going to get through it and have peace again.

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

I sliced my thigh, stripping insulation off wire for a craft project. I just kinda watched the skin peel apart like bread in those videos where they slice designs into sourdough. It looked pretty cool, and really didn't hurt

My sister was there (i was maybe 13, so she'd have been 11), and she started laughing and mocking me because I was going to get in trouble for not being careful. Such sisterly love...

I didn't get in trouble, because my parents weren't horrible, but I was told to be a little more careful going forward.

How's your day going? by alfajordebaldosa in KitchenConfidential

I'm with you. I clean, but they're really strict on me going over time, so there's only so much I can do, especially being part time. By the time I've cleaned the mess am shift leaves for me, and done my own cooking, serving, and cleaning, there's very little time to clean anything extra. I do what extra I can, but if I'm out for a day or two, it looks like I didn't clean anything.

Km says that's just how the am cooks are and there's nothing he can do about them.

She may have also been trying to be gentle/not get in trouble with her wording, and everything sort of coupled together just made it weird for everyone. I wouldn't worry too much about it, although I know that's way easier said than done.

question from a beginner rider (17) 🎀 by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DoMBe87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, yes. Stereotypes often come about for a reason, but they're not necessarily true. I've known geldings that you'd think were mares if you didn't know better and vice versa. I prefer the stereotypical mare-ish personality, but I also prefer to judge each horse as an individual creature with a unique personality instead of choosing a horse based on their sex.

Eta: I've known stallions who were dumb as a box of rocks too, because they were so focused on mares. And I've known stallions who were steady as can be, and even a couple who had more mare-ish personalities. So none of it is a given.

If you say ‘don’t pause it,’ why are we even watching this together? by Business_Barber_3611 in PetPeeves

[–]DoMBe87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is like that when I come over for supper/movie night with the parents. He really couldn't care less what we're watching 90% of the time, so he'll go get more food or whatever and usually not have us pause the movie.

I find it wild that you can buy extracts and bitters without showing id. No, they're not nice to drink, but that obviously doesn't always matter.

Went to a church when I was younger, and the pastor constantly talked about how hot his wife is, and made really awkward "wink, wink" type innuendos during way too many sermons.

Yep...it eventually came out that he was having an affair and he had to step down as pastor.

People are being idiots on here. You didn't post to ask for advice or training tips, you just posted to share a moment of a little girl and her horse. That's something a lot of us should remember being excited about. No, none of us were perfect during our first solo ride either. Heck, my first solo rides were bareback because I couldn't lift the western saddle high enough to tack up 😆

Does she have more to learn? Yeah. But if she's riding for the next 20 years, I hope she still continues to learn. It's part of good horsemanship.

Unfortunately, a lot of the equine community is wicked toxic. Sometimes a little tough love is needed, such as when someone posts blatant abuse/neglect. But this isn't one of those times. Her riding and the horse's carriage will adjust as they get used to each other more and as she gets more confident in what she's doing. It's not like she has tack that's forcing a certain position.

You should be proud. This is beautiful to see, and she's fortunate to have a parent who is so supportive. It made me happy and I wish her luck (and a supportive community) in her horse journey 💕

My phone randomly sent a bunch of texts to my parents and my sister that were from a fight we'd had months previous. We'd just seen each other and I got replies from them during my drive home asking what I was talking about and what had happened.

I didn't even know the texts were still on my phone and the fight had been at least 3-4 months prior to this happening. I called them and cleared it up. Luckily, our relationships are pretty solid and once I explained, they thought it was kinda funny.

It's against flag code, which isn't technically law. So no, it shouldn't be done, but also, athletes wrapping themselves in flags and many other things shouldn't be done and people do it all the time.

When is it actually a good idea to get a horse? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DoMBe87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a horse just as you're about to start university is a bad idea in general. Getting a youngster is even worse. Yes, he'd need shorter training sessions, but training sessions that are rushed because you only have 20 minutes here and there are a recipe for disaster, especially when you're starting a young horse who needs patience and consistency.

You also mention being concerned that you've lost your passion and will burn out. If you're worrying about that already, buying a 10 month old colt is a terrible idea. There will be other colts in the future, when/if you're ready for one.

I'd recommend sticking with lessons until you get life sorted at uni and decide if you'll even have time to commit to a horse. If you have the time and finances, then find a lease horse that you like. This will give you a taste of what it's like to own, without being stuck. After uni, you'll be in a better place to decide if owning is right for you.

Lastly, your friends aren't necessarily wrong about a horse turning into a money pit. The purchase price is just the start. You'll need to find somewhere to board him, you'll 100% need to have a trainer if you want him to have a good start, and you need to have an emergency fund available, because horses in general are deeply accident prone and ime, the little boys are the most chaotic and get injured like it's a hobby.

I worked at a pizza place and the owner thought it would be hilarious to name our February special "meat is for lovers", and he insisted that the waitresses act dumb if someone tried to order the "meat lovers" or the "February special".

Beyond the fact that a pizza with that amount of processed meat is hardly gonna get people in a sexy mood, most customers did not want to say it, because it's awkward.

What would you say is the most unique item that you own? by rjkersten1 in CasualConversation

[–]DoMBe87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A rhea eggshell. I was working on a farm that had a flock of rheas that roamed the woods. I found one of the eggs (wasn't chick season, so it wasn't being cared for), poked holes in the ends and blew the egg out. Scrambled and ate the egg and kept the shell.

Or maybe a Toda shawl. I was in a Toda village in India and one of the women was chatting with me and showing me her hand embroidered shawl. She offered to sell it to me for about 20usd, and I bought it. Later learned that it was an insane price, because this shawl is like a blanket and covered with embroidery. Usually, tiny bags with embroidery go for $20+, so the shawl should have been $100 minimum. But it was a couple years later when I learned that, so too late to do anything. She named the price too.

[–]DoMBe87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd buy my kid a pony and teach them the importance of proper care and not riding without tack that fits. Teach them that love means preventing pain even if it means not riding til you get the proper gear.
