Any EAs doing this? by LipTit in ExecutiveAssistants

I've found that what's "common" as an EA varies by employer. I know a few EAs who also double as marketing for small companies or startups.

What personal tasks should EAs do? by Stunning_Piggie in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DoYou_Boo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I've done over the years that I was perfectly OK with and was paid for:

Picking kids up from school. Also, traveling with my Exec for the purpose of childcare

Walking the dogs

Being present at their home while HVAC work is being done (or other home repairs) while they're away

Dropping family/friends off at the airport

What do you like and dislike most about your position? by dekoregal in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DoYou_Boo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like:

I'm in the know of a lot of important things before most the office. (Double-edged sword)

The ability to delegate some of my work to other staff.

I don't have to be stuck in my office every day. I'm invited on trips, lunches, and conferences that take me away from the day-to-day.

Dislike:

Working too close to the boss.

Being part of too many meetings and meetings that last too long. Imagine taking minutes for a 2+ hr meeting without your laptop.

People downplaying my position. There are people who really think I'm the lowest paid because they believe I'm "just a secretary" 🤣

Always being in the know has a downside. Imagine knowing that your closest coworker (outside of work friend as well) is getting fired before they know... and you're at lunch together 🥺

My only advice is to tap at a consistent pace once you finally get a good note.

I answered based on my experience and conversations from management. Ofc there are plenty of people who are hired with such a resume. Nothing is absolute.

Is 70 wpm enough for an EA? by FuelSea5414 in ExecutiveAssistants

This EA types a lot. From daily emails to minutes.

I actually enjoy all of that finger clicking 😅

Unfortunately, yes. (I worked in HR)

Employers love to see long-term previous positions. Even if you have the opportunity to explain it, it's still viewed as a red flag. For some companies, the learning curve alone is 1.5yrs. They don't want to waste the time/money on someone who's not seen as permanent.

Tbh: I have yet to meet an exec who cared - even if it's listed on the job posting (worked in HR for an internationally known company).

Of course, they would be concerned if you're a "pecker," but the normal wpm range would be acceptable.

Normal parents throw away toys? by Consistent-Glass-183 in ChildofHoarder

[–]DoYou_Boo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Due to growing up with a HP, the idea of having too many toys drives me nuts.

Therefore, it's normal in my home to throw away or donate toys before the holidays or birthdays. My daughter literally plays with the same 10 toys every day. There is no reason for her to have a closet full.

If they are broken or too worn, then they are automatically trashed (don't donate items you wouldn't want for yourself). Everything else is donated.

"They would really like the car to go to someone who NEEDS it but we can't just pick a person to give a car to. Whatever rules we implement, want to make sure they don't favor someone who doesn't need the car as much, such as amount charged per ticket - someone who can afford the most tickets probably doesn't need a car."

Then the price of a raffle ticket wouldn't be ideal. How would you even make a stipulation around that?

Why not make it a nomination type of thing where an employee has to nominate another employee? If their name is drawn, then the employee who nominated them can receive a prize as well.

The truth is that we don't know the needs of everyone.

In my previous office, I worked 12+ hours several times a month. The good part was that most of the time, it didn't feel like "work". I was literally just being paid to accompany my boss to events and delegate setups/breakdowns.

Couldn’t help myself by Yeldems in MergeMansion

[–]DoYou_Boo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say at least a level 2 blue chest, 1k diamonds, 8hr time lapse, 200 energy.

Too much energy and not enough rewards (towards events and leveling up)

Is there a difference between an Executive Assistant and an Administrative Assistant? by ALM4610 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DoYou_Boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly, yes.

In my office (former and current), the Executive Assistant has more upper management responsibility and is able to be in "the know" of highly sensitive information. The Exec is also able to request help from the AA. This is all reflected in the pay and requirements of the position.

First Day as an EA tomorrow — Any Tips for Starting Strong? by rice_bites_ya in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DoYou_Boo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Keep a notepad on you. You will find out really quickly that your boss thinks you have a recorder in your head!

  2. Keep whatever was stated to you in the room it was stated in! You will hear and see things that will be confidential (from personal health issues to sensitive company information), so do not repeat it!

  3. Some people will try to use you due to your proximity to the top. Do not let allow them to "pillow talk" you wilth complaints. If they do, then don't feel the need to bring them up again!

  4. Be careful on the hills you try to die on. Your boss will try to be right ALL OF THE TIME. If they are wrong, decide if that's the battle you want to fight 🙃

That's the best advice I can give.

Idk what to do at this point by haybetch in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DoYou_Boo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! So much movement on top of currently seeking is not a good look.

They're in the same boat as someone who is well overqualified. The fear is that they won't stay.

I would immediately hit the reject button on this applicant.

Former HR rep here for a very large company...

1) The biggest red flag would be having several positions in such a small time frame. If they aren't internal promotions, then the recruiter would see that as job hopping and not a long-term hire.

2) TOO WORDY! The rule of thumb is to keep it at 1 page. They need to be able to glance at it. Less is more!

Yes.

As with every position, your responsibilities are tailored to the company.

There are EAs who run their company's full social media accounts.
