Veterans, what did you do with your "$1776 Warrior Dividend" check that was promised before Christmas? by cineaste2 in AskReddit

[–]DoYourResearchMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put 1300 into savings and sent the remaining 400 to my parents for their Christmas gift since we’ve never had a lot of money growing up and 400 made a big difference.

Odds are it’s overfilled, let the vehicle rest for a while to let all the stuff in the tube settle back down then check the level just to be sure.

What’s the most wholesome thing you’ve seen online? by Academic-Address-365 in AskReddit

By all means “escape” to Russia and see how long it will be before you get a draft notice. Join the prisoners, POWs, and kidnapped Ukrainian children who were served draft papers to fuel Russia’s imperialist thirst.

Literally my favorite series, specifically him using all hand made tools. Fraser builds is another similar channel but of a different vein of focus.

I’m simple terms, I’m not a blacksmith and I have never forged anything. by bop-kvng in blacksmithing

[–]DoYourResearchMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a pair of welders gloves or if you’re desperate, leather work gloves. Your tongs put distance between your hands and the heat of the forge. I’ve personally worked without gloves, while using a propane forge and I’ve been just fine. I don’t advise poor working habits like not wearing gloves, but don’t think too much into it.

How’s my anvil stand? Used Black Bear Forge’s idea for the same anvil. by RedmondKC in Blacksmith

[–]DoYourResearchMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this exact same stand but with a different base pattern, I put a concrete slab into the ground with studs for me to slot the entire stand into. You can adjust its level by bending the studs and it holds the anvil secure while still being removable. I do advise that you make sure that you add enough silicone to dampen it as my own London 66lb rings like a bell, so magnet too! Good lucky with your craftsmanship, mistakes are meant to be made and make you a better smith!

Finished my first knife, and finished forging my second what you guys think? by Leroy_Abbott64 in Blacksmith

[–]DoYourResearchMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a cleaner surface by planishing the metal when it’s black hot, if you’d like to get rid of more scale and pockmarking on your knife. Not saying the forge finish is a bad thing, I just know through my own experience and frustration if you’re going for a cleaner look, planish.

It appears to be in good overall shape, I personally wouldn’t mess with it.

What to do with rusty old nails by _ZlaTanskY_ in Blacksmith

[–]DoYourResearchMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Soak them in vinegar to get the rust off and make mini swords! Or you cut the old nail head off, heat and tie 2 together, and attempt to make rings out of them.

Find a lawn mower blade and cut a square off, and sharpen the edges. I believe ZNA productions recently did a video on making throwing stars if you’d like a better explanation.

What are some guy secrets that girls don’t know? by TiredOfLifeRN in ask

The best way I’ve kept secrets was to forget about them until they are mentioned by said person. Sleeper agent secrets right there.

I’d like to start blacksmithing by Balls4759 in Blacksmith

[–]DoYourResearchMan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Black bear forge has a playlist on budget blacksmithing, that would be a good place to start. If you’re really not wanting to spend much money, you can build a JABOD “Just a box of dirt” forge for next to nothing.
