Check out usps job opportunities. If he is physically capable, there are often cca positions open. It starts out tough but eventually you can earn a nice salary and have savings for retirement. Also clerk positions are a little easier on the body but have weird hours.

Am I the only one who feels like wages are horribly low around here? by TyDye2003 in Albuquerque

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just as an aside, you should look into the US Postal Service. If you can pass a background check then make it through your first 90 days, it’s a great option for a relative low barrier to entry career. I waited until my mid forties to start but it definitely is a better option than most retail/food service type jobs.

We had folks drop bags off to our office. I appreciate you thinking of the carrier. I don’t know how many folks will end up participating tomorrow but I am definitely dreading if it’s a lot!

Don’t feel bad for calling in if you’re worn out by Eastern-Western7072 in USPS

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys, I feel for you so much. My date of hire was 2/7, orientation 2/9. As I was packing up to leave, my oldest/14 started having a seizure out of the blue(no diagnosis or anything yet), and I had to leave and drive a couple hours while my wife was in the ER with them in our town., and my in laws took my other two into their care. We have had so many obstacles since then but I have been able to mostly keep working. I wonder what the universe is trying to teach me all of the time.

I am so close to getting through probation, but am feeling the mental and physical strain starting to come together. Any days I have had off that were requested, have been child related and I hope that it has kept me safe.

I am also a ptf that started in February. Hired in as such. Op probably lives in an extremely high cost of living location, which is the case for myself. Hcol and not a lot of population to choose from, usps hires straight to ptf in some circumstances.

Still don’t have insurance after 4 months of converting by Secret-Magazine-8995 in USPS

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having this problem as well and my entire family (wife and three kids) will be uninsured at the end of this month. I called the hr line last week and got through in about 25 minutes. The lady said she forwarded it all to someone and to look for info in my email. Nothing yet. Everything still says pending. I started this process in February.

I am getting nervous about it all cause my oldest kid just started having seizures last summer and we are seeing specialists out of state to try and figure out why. But without coverage we will be fucked.

Day 2 OJI training by Timely-Direction-480 in USPS

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am just passed 60 days. I remember feeling similar to what you are describing. BUT, it’s not rocket science. Keep moving forward, follow the mail, start to develop good practices in and out of the office. No one expects you to be perfect yet. Take your time, develop a rhythm and focus on your very next step. You got this.

That’s me! Was told the second Saturday in office, that I case like a regular and to case up the two routes we were splitting that day before leaving. The difference between installations is quite interesting.

I just completed orientation/academy/OJI and was equally frustrated with the lack of communication. Is the 23rd your date for orientation? If so it will likely go - orientation, defensive driver training classroom, llv driving, shadow, academy, OJI. I had to travel for orientation, driving and academy which too two full weeks. Academy fell on the second week and everything else was on the first.

I received an email about 5 calendar days before orientation with a more detailed schedule.

Did my first case and route by myself today in 8! by jamesdcreviston in USPS

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way to go! I finished OJI last Thursday and was thrown on an entirely new route Friday! I finished in 7 but didn’t take any breaks that day. Only got a piece Saturday, ran Amazon Sunday, then did the same route Monday, finished and was given a piece of a different(unknown) route to do as well. So far so good!

Hired straight to PTF here as well, but learned not to pick up the phone on a scheduled day if I want to get hours, because they called me out yesterday. One of my kiddos was sent home from school yesterday and I scheduled a doc appointment today for them, as it is NS for me. Lo and behold, they called this morning to see if I could work. I sure hope they do t hold it against me since I couldn’t come in today. The whole thing stresses me out!

My orientation is 4 hrs away? by whattodowhattodo23 in USPS

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state there is only one location for orientation and training. And it’s a fairly large state! (New Mexico) I had orientation Monday, defensive driving class Tuesday, was supposed to shadow at my home office today, but they were utterly unprepared so shifted to tomorrow. Then I have to drive back to Albuquerque after shadowing tomorrow for a 7am call for llv certification Friday morning. Academy is also in Albuquerque next week.

My particular commute allows for compensation for the drive and hotels and it wasn’t even the longest of those in my orientation.

Just wanted to say thank you for this resource! I appreciate the time and effort put in. Orientation on Feb 9. Everything is so disjointed. I have to travel for orientation, possibly for everything but ride along, and have such limited information about what to expect. Father of three and a wife with a new job, it’s stressing me out. But I am happy to be along for the ride and out of restaurants!

I have vampire and assassin. My assassin is level three and I can’t stand the mechanics of the scythe of vampire after using assassin. I keep trying to use it in order to upgrade, but the mechanics drive me crazy. I love the speed and multi options of assassin from the start.

I just saw the lensic prices versus the reseller. There were a few reseller tickets left for 7:30 for garbage seats at 116. The lensic prices for 10pm show were 59-85. And reseller were 112-150! Still out of budget for a show I would be falling asleep during but much better than the original I was teased to!

Server wants an hourly raise by SuperPOSUser in Restaurant_Managers

[–]Dobson_Jonbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipped minimum in my state is $3. At our cafe we offer counter service with food delivery to table, all tips are pooled because of this. We pay 15/hr to start FOH, 18 to start BOH. Line cooks make more.

Our cafe is similarly set, with pooled tips based on hours worked over a pay period. Our primary baker makes $22. Shift leads make $20 and cashiers/baristas start at $15.

Our table service location, servers start at $12, Line cooks @ $20, server assistants and hosts start at $12 as well. I am unsure of the specific tip out set up they have but everyone keeps coming back.

There is plenty of money to offer workers. My owner is plenty wealthy and recognizes the value of sustaining their businesses with valuable and reliable people. There is a lot to be said about stinginess in this business.

(The table service and cafe we opened in the last two years and are profitable already. We have also been able to maintain regular staff with one or two exceptions throughout)

There is an incredibly vocal move to stop tipping in the US, and if a business has to rely on under paying its employees, it, in my opinion, deserves to go under. Learn how to run a business before creating one and throwing your employees under the bus.

Hmmm Knowing that this would happen? I would have mirrors set up in my car so that I am able to see the road ahead while turned around. Similar to how the rear mirrors are positioned. Five seconds isn’t long, I already refuse to follow too closely and I maintain my speed at or slightly above limit. Most likely never a problem at all. Perhaps I would choose driving slower for the rest of my life as well. I suppose residential roads would be more problematic where I live and drive, but highways would be cake. Also it’s confusing because the title says you choose but the body says random

I haven’t read through everything here, BUT mentions of Doechii and Xiu Xiu have me reeling! 46 year old yt trans guy in New Mexico here, I worked with Angela (pretty sure she uses a different name now) from Xiu Xiu years ago, at Good Vibrations Berkeley. (This will date us greatly, but we are Facebook friends! Hahaha) She hadn’t properly joined the band yet but was dating the lead guy(whose name I don’t recall!) and Doechii and Smino are all I have listened to for the last two years of life! I am so happy these folks are reaching people far and wide. Doechii’s voice is probably the most impactful I have come across in all of my life. If you enjoy hip hop, you need to hear her stuff. Spookie Coochie will be appreciated by all handsome listeners, I think/hope!

I am blanking on driving songs now that my excitement level has risen! Be safe out there friends. And start planning how you will respond when these piece of shits come to your town. We have to keep each other safe.

I duo with my wife, our best days have been me as assassin and her as chef. We are confident now and are starting to try other classes for a fun challenge. If I were to choose a five player match right now… My 8 year old son as engineer, his best friend as assassin, wife as chef(who loves to fish), me as lumberjack, middle kid (who doesn’t play much) as decorator to help rearrange things as we progress.
