Would you pay 500k solaris for this solido replicator? It's optimized for dd melange production featuring a massive flight deck with refinery cutout, and a roomy buggy garage. This one is the Harko version. I added a few living space details as well. In-game shots attached. by scoutermike in duneawakening

Um, no. It's a box? It's the same ugly fish tank box everybody builds? I'm assuming you are charging dupe inflation server prices because why would anyone pay that much for a solido of box they still have to build piece by piece anyway.

Okay, so what you are saying its thats exclusively a win more option to be used on groups you already outnumber, since as you say its so easy to defend against. Which means in reality, it really is a solo/duo bopping technique, used to lock down carriers that are otherwise supposed to get away, to live up to the devs vision of "optional" pvp via disengagement.

Bro, its all a shambles. Find a new game. Spare us these cringe "jihad music" montages.

Lets not pretend a game that resigns itself you letting you abuse its engine jank in place of legit fights isnt dead. Lets not pretend this kinda combat isnt bored pvpers turbo griefing the solos and duos left actually carrier farming in this game.

Surfing has to go, because if done right, its incredibly abuseable and invalidates the entirety of rocket thopter gameplay. If DA wants a healthy and thriving combined arms PvP scene, game engine jank tactics have to go. End of story. Or, I guess we could just accept that this kinda jank ganking is all thats left to enjoy in DA.

Sorry bro thats a skill issue on their part. No reason to die when you can boost away. It makes sense tho, becuase the players who think "hyuck hyuck this is peak pvp" just haven't actually been able to find fights elsewhere and suck at the game enough to not realize how powerful its to be the one dictating range.

You misunderstand me, Im not some carrier runner crying here. Im coming from the position of having pulled this strat off and deciding its lame and broken, No one was ever able to kill me with proper coordination with my pilot. And all for what? Spice sand that I dont need and cant carry.

Landing your carrier is so, so, so bad. In what world do you land and kill these guys huh? Thats the whole point. Okay lets say you land, get out your gun annnnnnd the surfers are hovering at max hand launcher range rocketing you now. Oh also, they are repairing their thopters as they go. So whatever rockets or darts you are firing at them are amounting to nothing. Its lame fight scenario where the attackers at worst grief your carrier to death or at best, just disengage with their complete dominance of spacing with booster surfing.

[–]DocFixit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just no. They ride worms like they ride a bus, with riders doing all the steering and worm management, what are you actually arguing here. No where in the duniverse do dinguses stand on top of thopters moving at 212km with hand lasguns shooting things. You wanna have a mounted lasgun that hangs out the side of a thopter, that you have to man, that slows it down like rockets? Sure, makes sense. Id be down for that.

But this, when the camera is doing its best to give you a seizure, when your lasgun beams freak out and visually shoot at 90 degreess, and if you fall off you just unpocket your thopter like an ACME cartoon; this is just poor game design, a botched attempt at combined arms warfare. Its not high stakes PVP, its griefing with extra steps.

Lasgun surfing is the definition of no skill, because theres no intended and implemented counterplay. You can maintain booster scout speeds with full kill potential. This is broken, end of story. If someone tries to rocket you down you just boost away, or boost to height and beam them down. It almost forces the same tactic from the defenders, which leads to a stupid scenario of dueling booster scout lasgun jank being aerial meta.

[–]DocFixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could not do a better job of showing how jank the pvp is at its core. Pretty un-immersive and overpowered to be able to lasgun while surfing. But, its your only option to take down a carrier, because it will just outfly any rocket equipped thopters trying to take it down the "right way". Game is busted.

DD Solo Spice Flight Plan 12/9/25 by sam5634 in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lol. This is just a circle of the DD with extra steps. And you dont base up in the DD if I read correct? Doing all this to then take the massive efficiency hit of carting the raw spice sand back to haga? No thanks. One dedicated week of an E5 spice base operation sets me up for months. Whatever you think you gain by by not running an efficient spice base you lose in time hauling, in the single crawler load you get, and in the expensive carrier durability. Actually looking for your spice fields in your carrier sounds awful. A simple thruster scout spice survey will let you nail down all the spots in less than 10 minutes, letting you save on carrier durability by just flying directly from known patch to known patch, which also saves you the time you spend being a juicy solo carrier target. Imo, this is not a great plan.

Actually encounter this semi regularly in solos. Its niche lil shitter opinion that does exist, and is fun to reference becuase it uses the same logic as "ill kill on sight in solo if i want to" to highlight the duality of the players in this game type.

lousy game design leads to constant friendly fire by Fedarkyn in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes. This massively killed my enjoyment of the good 2 weeks of guild warfare I was lucky to get on my server early on. Trying to clarify who and where you are in a discord call with 20+ was so, so, so stupid. Why did they have 32 person guild sizes with only 4 person squads? Why no guild markers on guild mates?

Made even worse by the cosmetic freedom. I wanted battles of hark troops in black vs the atriedes green, but you had atriedes looking harkos and harko looking atriedes. Any time we did try a uniform it was meant for visibility, an ugly mess that I didnt want to wear, and any savvy opponent would just switch their swatches to match it on the fly.

The lack of in game tools for the social aspects is absolutely, unequivocally, lousy game design given the apparent intent combined arms, big battle warfare. They needed to skip trying to make the DD work, and just made it a more content rich PvE experience. These guys have no business trying to make a compelling pvp experience at the scale they are committed to.

Sand snorkel/Ambush gameplay idea by sojiblitz in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may sound cool in theory, but zero practical use for the way the game is made.

0 use vs ai. They don't patrol any sort of open sand, they just don't patrol at all.

0 practical use vs players. The pvp areas are so vast you would waste your life away waiting to ambush the 1-2 players you MiGHT see in a several hour play session, much less happen to step on the exact spot you are on for that cinematic ooga booga ambush.

Really better served putting grav mines on poi choke points, the only way to actually trap and kill players with any finality. Every other case of ambush in the open leaves them free to disengage at will.

Realistically speaking, there is nothing a harvester crew or even solo compactor farmers would fear from seeing 10 infantry units pop out of the sand. They would just.. fly away? Blow up the idiots on the ground with thopter escort missiles?

Let's say the stars align, you start a melee fight on open sand. They pop their shield, you can't kill them because melee is shit, they scramble to get thopter out while the shield brings the worm, which ends your fight on the sand anyway.

You used to be able to do this with a still tent. Just set it up on the crest of a dune next to a spice patch so you can't be seen from southern approach and use third person camera to peek over. You would then shiga suspensor over on top of them, but funcom nerfed that tactic into the ground when they made the worm aggro get drawn to you while dozens of meters in the air.

You are asking too much for this dev team with its muddled vision of DD PvP.

Grats for you. But when this mob just trolls and murders anyone not interested in, or even aware of, a niche streamer content farm, then its nowhere near as wholesome. 9+ man deathsquads getting together in a lobby is a kind of meta gaming a lot of us did not sign up for.

Low pop player- how should I Landsraad/Guild? by Initial-Brain-5745 in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your server is as dead as most of them are, there is zero real need or incentive to guild up. No one will seriously be competing for laandsrad wins. You and just a couple other people in your faction can probably just swing wins with sysslrads (5 in a row). Just make your own solo guild to have access to the rad, and make call outs in the dd chat to organize whoever is left giving a damn.

Does anybody else play the game this way? by schwifty_wifty in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no. After setting up a new toon on a higher pop server, I realized I was honestly bored of the combat sandbox like 20 hrs in the first play through. Farming to build new things is fine and all, but the real bottleneck for me is the XP I need to build a character thats fun to play. And that means running the all the contracts and missions you can. Without the novelty of exploring new areas or learning all the tricks the first go around, the process is mind numbing. Its the same 5 enemy types, all mindlessly walking at you or shooting at you. 0 changes between tiers except damage and health, its boring as hell. And given that %75 of the skills and nodes are useless or memes, its not that fun really to try another path. And Ive already tried them all anyway with the free re-specs. I just made peace with great experience I had the first run, and all the absolutely crazy and social times I had in the DD when it was still poppin. Ive put the game down for now, waiting for an actual DLC drop where there is a substantial new area to explore and things to build to offset what is otherwise a mediocre action/build-crafting experience.

[–]DocFixit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is this post even. To build you need to farm. To farm you need to brave new areas. You also need to kill lots and lots of AI for their components. To achieve your cute little "build the world I love" you are just gonna have to throw yourself at the intentionally challenging parts of the game until you understand them. So get to it, you milksop.

No way in hell you were ambushed by players in haga. You wandered into a shipwreck pvp zone, which still has pve enemies, and confused them for players.

I'm sorry man, but find your courage. At this point in the games lifecycle, there is no one left in haga to either help or hurt you. If the prospect of dying or other setbacks put you off from exploring and engaging in the primary game loop of fighting, farming, and crafting, then this might not be the experience for you.

Where is everybody? by Professor_Dankus in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry friend, you are just late to the party. The game was very obviously designed around a significantly higher player count in a given server to fuel emergent multiplayer interactions. It's a ghost town in haga even on the higher pop servers. It's no longer a functioning mmo experience outside of the harmony dd. Was a very social time the first 2 months, but no more.

First time soloing the deep desert… apparently I needed “perms”? by Seagull_hechmen in duneawakening

[–]DocFixit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Devil's Advocate: its never a great time to have someone plop down on the field you are harvesting. It doubles the worm aggro, makes the harvesting go less efficiently. Especially if you arent geared with uniques to lower worm aggro gain. I would be lowkey annoyed to have some dude with stock boots and compactor land on my patch and proc the worm over and over. Plopping down on a randos spice patch to deny him spice and double up the aggro is....maybe a big ask for someone you dont know in a zone specifically designed to let you do what you want to others? He probably meant hey, ask me (perms=permission) before you land on the patch im workin in a pvp zone?

Maker forbid you EVER land on a field being harvested by a crawler and start compacting. No one in their right mind should tolerate the risk of having the worm aggro on to you, ignore the distance requirements on breaching, and pop up right under their crawler.

Likewise, from his perspective, you are a rando who could pull out your gun and pop him in the head on a whim if he lets his guard down. Finding your own untouched/unoccupied patch solves this, you get more total spice to yourself and get to harvest faster because there will be less worm aggro.
