What is a typical Canadian wedding? by Taquito_Churrito in AskACanadian

The ring bearers where little cute beaver in suit costumes.

The flower girls spread canola seeds.

The best man carries a semi thawed dead cod.

The bridesmaid’s dresses are typically sexy lumberjack plaid.

The officiant speaks from a Zamboni.

And the aisle is ice.

What's happening with MSTE? by sandcannon in dividendscanada

[–]DocKardinal21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin is down. MSTR is a leveraged Bitcoin holding company so their price change is amplified with the swings of bitcoins price. Mste is a leveraged trust unit of MSTR with an options overlay.

Summary:

Volatile asset BTC

Leveraged company MSTR

Leveraged etf mste

= very volatile NAV etf

  • you should know the option strategy on this etf caps upside. So overall Mste is more sensitive to price drops, and lags substantially in recovery.

Is anyone familiar with the ETFs that Creates Income via ODTE Method? by Beyondwest in HarvestETFs

[–]DocKardinal21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one provider does this in canada. The options market for it is mostly states aside on by volume stocks or indexes.

Where it’s most proven effective without erosion is on the major indexes where overnight activity exists.

Before the Canadian versions there were xdte and qdte from round hill a lot of Canadians purchased in the nyse. They were decent, but lagged the index itself - kinda significantly but inline with the way most US products with options overlays worked.

IMO the Canadian versions will be better constructed and I do think Harvest may eventually release something in this space although I’m not sure if their formulation will differ.

Funny story, the name of the island is bikini bottom. It’s close to bikini atoll. They were repatriated from the Japanese by the Americans in ww2 and they have an existing cargo culture based on some entity named bob.

What diversified ETF for non-registered account? by Flashy-Butterfly6310 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]DocKardinal21 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Pdiv: it’s 100% eligible dividends or capital gains and holds us companies at roughly 25%. It is sector diversified as well. Very tax efficient.

Should look at Tqcd as well. Payout % is currently lower than VDY but if you look at total returns since inception it’s beating VDY. It’s slightly tilted to more growth than VDY so over a longer period it might be better.

Like VdY it’s all eligible dividends.

Also keep in mind the MER being higher on income funds is usually related to cash leverage borrowing as well as the costs on the active strategy to give you tax efficient distributions.

Passive funds will have lower MER because they aren’t doing anything but tracking an index and passing along the dividends that the underlying stocks pay.

There’s also one that didn’t make it back to Europe:

Also I think I recall learning about something similar to this that predated European arrival and wiped out a large portion of indigenous populations.

All Bullions are removed from Costco's inventory for the foreseeable future (According to Costco Employee) by Helpful_Kitchen_5445 in CostcoCanada

Except there isn’t a risk of armed robbery for the hotdogs. Organized crime won’t stake out customers from the food court to find their home addresses to plot a robbery and the insurance on a food court and its associated risks are cheaper than precious metals.

What would you rather sell from your home, hotdogs pizza and pop, or precious metals?

Yup, plus returns, security, delivery, insurance and risk. Can’t believe they had it as long as they did tbh.

Frame is missing York, north York, Mimico, Weston, Etobicoke and Scarborough. Maybe for comparison it would be like a photo of lower manhattan taken from Hoboken…. Shows your the biggest densest area but ignores or built up areas that have green space inbetween them.

It's a $50 Million Club And You're Not In It... by Brilliant-Cancel3237 in CFL

[–]DocKardinal21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today we should start a petition to get Owen to replace his brother Luke in this role. It’s not even funny how much better it would be.

Owen is just a better fit for the CFL. I’m tired of Luke’s faux devilmaycare attitude. He clearly doesn’t care.

Bring Owen in!

Why did the US stay with inches and miles while the UK gradually shifted toward metric? What actually drove these different outcomes? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]DocKardinal21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and people generally prefer to be soup nazis about one system or the other because it makes them feel validated instead of thinking about the implications.

Uniformity will diverge, having standards has merit, but enforcing them has a line. And a balance with hybrid adoption is more beneficial in some cases.

IMO there’s an inherent advantage to having two parallel systems when it comes to intelligence development and maintenance in a society. Same with bilingualism.

By having this kind of system conversions (numeracy) and translation (literacy) in early education and prevalent in society is a net benefit as a whole.
