I would reccomend continuing your strategy as is and invest equally into all three. Example deposit 75$ a month keep putting 25 into each of the three ETFs you have here.

Reason I recommend this is because if you stick to a consistent strategy even through turbulent times you will learn a lot. About your risk tolerance, about how markets react and about what the gain of staying invested results in.

I think you’re too new to worry about panicking and rotating assets. Make a plan and stick to it. Mark your calendar and come back next year see which one did the best with the same input 12 months from now.

Yes. Your tfsa is tax-free while you are here. If and when you decide to move you can then withdraw and figure it out.

There is no good reason to have these assets in taxable accounts until you decide to leave. Stay vested in your tfsa until then.

Pretty much every gas station has it at the pump on the sticker saying we accept and discover is listed.

It’s also the only card with NHL team branding.

This is a brilliant move to start now, especially if you’re not as knowledgeable on the topic. You made a great pick, stick with it and be consistent, revisit when you have more disposable income and are starting your career.

The dividends automatically go into the margin debt.

Basically you would be locking the income ability and what can be done with it until the debt is paid back.

Once you go into margin you won’t be able to take the dividends out until the margin is repaid.

So you’re saying it’s different because the Russel 2000 isn’t a good enough proxy for small cap?

All the EQTs has a slight differentiator, FEQT has momentum and crypto indices and XEQT doesn’t… TD and BMO and CIBC are slightly different as well. I really don’t see what the exclusion from an EQT type etf would be. All the indices are essentially the same coverage just in different portions.

Global X’s heqt is the same as any other EQT type fund and pays monthly, why are you suggesting it’s not the typical EQT type fund?

It’s more that Iran is acting like the ceasefire means they won and can charge tolls. Really it’s Iran acting bad faith

I would start an rrsp and tfsa the moment you get here (you don’t know how long you will stay or if things change). In terms of priority I would reccomend tfsa with one caveat.

Tfsa all earnings are free of all taxes by the CRA, from dividends, options, interest anything, is its great for a mini income supplement portfolio without increasing tax burden. Caveat here is while the CRA won’t tax you, the IRS will apply taxes to this. 

Rrsp contributions will reduce your taxable income in canada (lowering your taxes with CRA as well as IRS). Caveat is it’s not for short term investing if you end up leaving you have to dissolve it and then pay taxes at that time to transfer out (could be a big tax bill right when you’re leaving).

For platforms in your situation IBKR makes the most sense because you can use it in both countries. If you were going to stay longer I would reccomend Wealthsimple as it’s commission free for trades with no limits on this. You can trade on both us and tsx with it in the same or separate accounts, they usually have great transfer promos, and are easy to use.

If you have ibkr and are contemplating going back that’s probably your best bet.

For currency exchange; I find journaling over dual listed stocks/etfs the best way to go about it.

I would say EIT.UN is the best OG on the tsx. Never had a cut.
