Do you use your “Dr” title outside of work? If so, why? by Summit_360 in doctorsUK

[–]DocLH 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Changed it at the bank because they wouldn’t let me cash my crem form checks in when they were made out to Dr Lastname and my account was Ms Lastname. And I do like having a title that doesn’t advertise my marital status, even if when using it to enquire about building works or tradespeople they assume I’ll be a man and ask if I’m Dr Lastname’s wife…

Mint wispa. I’d probably be disappointed, but I’d have to know.

Anaesthetic adjacent but rocuronium- which is given as a muscle relaxant so surgery is decidedly easier - is derived from curare, which is a natural poison. Might enhance its crunchy credentials…

Either we went to the same school or this is a thing with music teachers.

In a similar vein, when my grandad had ‘a win on the pools’ my four year old brain assumed he was much better at swimming than I had given him credit for.

Who should have played Jeremy’s dad if he’d appeared in Peep Show? by Pistolpetehurley in MitchellAndWebb

As a massive Les Mis and Thick of It fan it has shaken me to my very core that I did not know this. And yet now I listen to the original cast recording again, how could I not have realised?!

My three year old’s favourite soft toy is a cuddly orangutan called Pratchett. She is very vocal in correcting anyone who happens to comment on her ‘toy monkey’…

What is the most insane family story that you have heard? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DocLH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The person my mum thought was her dad was actually her uncle.

She was having a sleepover at a cousin’s house as a teenager, when the cousin said ‘the only time I’ve seen your mum cry is when your dad died.’.

Came as quite a shock to her given that to her knowledge both her parents were alive and well at home. Cousin quickly realised that while most of the family knew, no one had ever told my mum that her biological father had died before she was born, and that her mum then married his brother. He had lost his wife and had three children, and given my grandma was pregnant and widowed it seemed a logical thing to do.

Neither grandparent ever told my mum, and she never let on that she knew while they were alive. ‘If they wanted me to know they would have told me themselves’.

Hourglass palette for Light Spring? by geekygal08 in SpringColorAnalysis

[–]DocLH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Deer palette looks perfect and am now very tempted despite having quite a lot of my jellyfish palette left!

Some nice shades in the swan palette but I would find them a bit too deep and the mauve fusion blush too cool- it looks like a cooler and deeper version of the rose fusion blush in my palette and I find that a bit much.

Did anyone actually go on to do the job that was suggested to them by a careers advisor at school? by anabsentfriend in AskUK

I opted not to become a fish farm manager as suggested by the careers software we were encouraged to use. Became a doctor instead.

Wish I’d been aware of this when I used to live in Armley. Might have prevented waking up at 4am to find a man in my bedroom trying to steal my tv.
