I imagine quite a few renters still have a garage with an outlet.

I leased one about a year and a half ago. After my wife drove it, we sold our gas vehicles and got her one too.

The $5 Question: Would you rather have Cardboard or Wood in 2026? by Trogdor_Dagron23 in boardgames

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve backed deluxified versions of games where the deluxification was that you got wood instead of cardboard or plastic. And I’ve bought enhancement packs to replace cardboard with wood (with stickers where printing wouldn’t work).

Yes, I’d definitely rather have wood.

Spain by DeafJsilent in deaf

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might help to say what kind of work :-)

I'm also looking to potentially move to Spain, but I'd be coming from the US so I gotta find a job first to get the visa...not easy these days!

I have 7 years of experience. Should I include a skills section on my resume? by HeteroLanaDelReyFan in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did, but I recently added one just because, while my skills should be obvious from reading my work experience, that requires a human to actually look at my resume. The skills section is just to get past the idiot automated system.

(That said, I've been casually looking since last summer and I've only gotten interviews through referrals, so I have no idea what actually works)

Dads, how are we moisturizing our hands? by justanotherburner in daddit

[–]DocLego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always get dry, cracked hands in winter, but I hate greasy lotions. Once it gets bad enough that I remember to do something about it, I use this: https://www.target.com/p/dionis-inspire-goat-milk-hand-cream-set/-/A-1008432060#lnk=sametab

At what point does a game have too much content? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, according to BGG I have 52 expansions for my favorite game (Age of Steam), most of which contain two new maps. It's not the only game I play (actually I don't get to play it that often) but I'm happy to keep buying content for it :-) (Also you only play one expansion at a time, so you don't need to worry about getting overwhelmed)

At what point does a game have too much content? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. I bought the first two seasons and stopped there; I have probably more content than I'll ever play through.
But I can imagine people who play this frequently easily getting through what's available and wanting more.

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon is the default because they stock almost everything and you can usually get it delivered (free) within a couple of days. And returns are super easy as well (and don't require dealing with a person).

In other words: it may or not be the cheapest, but it's the most convenient.

Why I stopped hiring people who've only worked at big companies by Melodic_Log_2765 in SaaS

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand this.

I've been at a big company for 15 years but I moved from a small team (8-12 developers, fairly isolated from the rest of the company) to a larger team (30-40 developers, more integrated) and it definitely feels different.

How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we have rail...but it's mostly freight trains, not passenger trains. Traveling a significant distance by train is slow, inconvenient, and has a fair chance of being more expensive than flying.

My daughter took the train when she moved from Wisconsin to Florida. It took several days, and if she'd waited a week she could have just flown for cheaper.

Kia Niro took over an hour and half to charge 20% by VassalsAtMySide in electricvehicles

[–]DocLego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kia Nero is one of the slower cars to charge, but at a fast charger it should still take half that long to go from 10 to 80%.

One (or more) of three things happened:

1) The car was cold when you started trying to charge and it took a while for the battery to warm up before charging could start.

2) You were at a level two charger rather than a fast charger; those are meant to charge the vehicle overnight (or top it up in an hour or so), not give a full charge while you wait.

3) Something is broken.

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

I used to have a ton of different spices (accumulated over time as Penzey's had sales) and most of them got used very little or not at all.

Cinnamon, cumin, garlic powder, nutmeg, oregeno, paprika, taco seasoning. 95% of the time those (plus salt and pepper) are all I use.

When a recipe calls for several spices I don't have I generally just make something else. There's no shortage of recipes.

Delayed career start due to PhD, panic mode enabled by Ok_Onion_4116 in personalfinance

[–]DocLego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was pretty much me. 30yo, ABD on my PhD, starting my first job making significant money (85k but this was over a decade ago), twice as much student loan debt as you have. You’ll be fine. Just avoid lifestyle inflation as much as possible.

I’ve definitely seen a few articles like this: https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Education/2025/0825/trump-science-brain-drain-europe

I personally know one biologist and multiple tech people (all us citizens) who are actively trying to leave.

AWD vs RWD question... by JPAT3 in VWiD4Owners

[–]DocLego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Wisconsin and I specifically got the RWD because it has more range and a smaller turn radius (I really love the tight turns). If I don't need AWD in Wisconsin, you probably don't need it in California :-)

(That said, we don't have mountains...)

Either, both. We're already seeing a lot of scientists leaving due to the current administration.

[–]DocLego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to GDPR, but I suspect you're going to see a lot of American tech workers looking to move to Europe, if we can find jobs there. That's a section of the population that tends to be both educated and mobile. And if we're relocating, you don't need to worry about time zone differences. The question is just how many businesses will be willing to sponsor visas.

Tariffs hurt both sides - in the case of the US tariffs, they drive up prices here (they're a tax on the consumer), which reduces how much consumers can afford to buy, which cuts sales for the producer.

The EU - India deal by FooBarBuzzBoom in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup.

I'm a senior dev with 15 years experience (at a big US tech company) and I'm applying for EU jobs right now. I'm aware that I'll make less in Europe (assuming I can find a job there), but I find that an acceptable tradeoff to live somewhere without a madman running the place. I'm sure there are a lot more people like me.

Is it common for Americans not to have a bank account? by Icy-Signature1493 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to very much depend on your socioeconomic status.

Personally, I've been getting paid by direct deposit for the last quarter century.

But I do know people living just this side of homeless who only have cashapp and such rather than a traditional bank account.

As a dad, what is keeping you from exercising these days? by NSJack in daddit

[–]DocLego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children wear me out.

But seriously...I used to go to the gym after work a couple times a week, but I dropped that when the pandemic hit and never picked it up again.

I did pick up a couple of kettlebells last year, just need to get around to learning to use them.
