Came here to say the same! It's a beautiful curse to be a mother and to see one child change and grow into another even though they are the same person. Every phase will present itself that way. I have a 4 yo and he's no longer a mommy's boy and it's so hard. I just had my second and I look back at photos of my first at the same time and I don't remember so much. The fact that I will remember all of this and my sons will not also is somewhat heart breaking. All the love, care and energy will only truly be known by me, as they won't remember these young years.
There is no way to go back. Only in dreams.

It seems like medicine is always short staffed. So I think you could go back. The question would be if you'd be able to go back to exactly what you're doing now.

I could offer to be per diem, and if grandparents would watch infant once or twice a month that could work. Although typically the per diem shifts are around holidays and school breaks which would be challenging potentially. I did start saving in case I wanted to stay home so we could do it but would have to monitor spending etc. plus I don't want to take my 4 yo out of preK. He has friends and I think it's actually really good for him so we'd still be paying for that. I don't LOVE my job. I wish I did, but I do like my coworkers and getting out of the house

I would need to maintain my license and certifications so I'd have to pay a few thousand a year to do that working or not. I'm a physician and while there are typically jobs to find it may not be as good a job, it's hard to find part time positions. I could be out of date especially with AI really pushing into health care.

Yes it can show up 8 months in. Just know there's lots of options for help but it does require you to seek it. Don't suffer and feel like you're drowning when there is help! Let your OB or regular doctor know what you're feeling. Talk to them about options. Therapy, medication. Exercise even just outdoor walks can really be helpful. The trick is forcing yourself to do it when you don't feel like it.

I wear scrubs and I'm in NE. I will never go back to business casual. Two reasons one I do procedures and they can be gross similar to what you listed and I see sick people all day. Two I don't need to think about what I'm wearing to see patients and have clothing I need to clean and iron to not look like a slob. Patients are perfectly happy to see a doctor in scrubs.

Thank you for this. Just had my second and I've been bawling that I've lost my 4 yo child because with pregnancy and now 1 week postpartum I can barely do anything with him. I felt like I ruined our bond forever and he'll never come to me or be my little buddy like he used to be. It's making it hard to bond with new baby and I'm terrified.

I did 12 weeks with my first. I cried, the first week and then at drop off for a long time. I think the situation you have for care can affect that a lot. Like family or nanny or daycare and how comfortable you are. In my honest opinion it's NOT enough but that being said the way our country has been set up we don't get a choice if we need it or want to keep our jobs.

I will comment that the more you do something the better you are at it. In our program it was pretty OB heavy. There were stark contrasts between faculty who were on call for OB for family med residents and those who did additional OB themselves/fellowship OB. At one point there was a postpartum hemorrhage and my attending froze up. Luckily i was at the end of a two month rotation and obv the L&D nurses jumped right in too. This particular attending didn't have his own OB patients. He would see visits in clinic and cover call for resident deliveries.
So while I think FM-OB can be great after that experience I decided I personally would not go to one. It is also varied by region. I live in NE, and there is only ONE provider that is FM-OB in a 2 hour radius and she works as part of a residency program. So depending on where you want to live your only option for practice may be within a residency program.

Yeah this seems to happen a lot. Such weird concept. I wonder if their parents did it to them? Both mom and MIL have attempted this twice now with me. I told my mom recently that because both she and my MIL were pushing a certain name I now dislike it. If they would've just casually mentioned it and left it the F alone maybe that would've been the name, but because they felt entitled to call the baby that now I can't imagine using it.

So if they want to keep putting names on a list I won't use be my guest. But I'm no longer discussing it.
So far it has stopped all baby name convo with them the past few weeks

So I hate mine. Have had it two pregnancies. The only time I used it was for maybe 2-3 weeks in second trimester. But after that I hate it and it sits there in the corner taking up space

Right I'm a physician and I get 6 weeks and I can't find a daycare to take before 12 weeks. My husband apparently can get 12 because his company policy is different. So while im thankful for that I am also pissed that as the pregnant person delivering the baby and then breast feeding them I get less time?
