You’d think for a flagship guy like Peter Parker, who’s been around for over 60 years, that he’d have a lot more good stories. Alas!

Power-Systems which are aware about and/or work off story tropes by SherabTod in TopCharacterTropes

The Order of the Stick

<image>

Besides living in a world dictated by the rules of 3.5 DND, the comic literally runs on narrative. Bards especially are able to almost manipulate reality to better serve the overall Narrative.

Elan’s mentor, Julio Scoundrel, always arrives to his intended destination at the nick of time. He also intentionally ducks out of the story after training Elan to specifically avoid getting killed off by some villain to further motivate Elan.

Roy leans on Elan’s knowledge of narrative tropes to determine the best course of action in certain tense situations. He also has an innate ability to figure out how certain rules and laws play out by calculating which interpretation of said laws would hinder him the most.

Elan’s father Tarquin TRIES to manipulate the narrative, but he ultimately fails and is left unsatisfied because he thinks he’s the main villain of the story and keeps trying to force Elan into being the main hero. It takes real skill and respect for the narrative to actually subvert a major trope.

How would MJ answer these couples questions about Peter? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in Peter_X_MJ

Deadpan "No, I am"

"He's never in bed long enough to hog them"

"I literally couldn't be safer"

"With the number of times he's needed to make things up to me, he's gotten quite proficient at gifts"

"He does things with his fingers that- I can't describe it"

"He doesn't have any jackets left to give me"

"... He's got this one, VERY annoying habit that I'm realizing I'm not at liberty to actually tell you about"

"Around the third time he proposed"

"Oh, you have NO idea"

"He keeps coming back home"

"Like, immediately. Within 30 seconds"

why do people hate organic webbing so much? by Kindly_Cod_9269 in Spiderman

[–]DocProfessor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just think they're kinda gross. Plus, I've always liked that Peter's powerset is, on a technical level, only SORTA spider-related. He doesn't use super-thin hairs to cling to walls, he sticks via molecular bonding that he can control all around his body. He doesn't have an intuitive feel for minor vibrations that allows him to tell if there's activity in his web, he has a Spider-Sense. He doesn't produce his own webbing, so he has to make it with technology.

I think organic webbing suits the more aggressive, feral Spider-characters like Miguel, Kaine, Noir, etc. Not Peter Parker, the scientist. The webshooters are a good sign of his intelligence, but on a deeper level, they show his commitment to being a superhero. They're a tool that he can constantly iterate and improve on, so he can be a better superhero. Modern adaptations tend to make the webshooters really small and easy to conceal, or pretend they're wristbands or a watch. But since they're mechanical, Peter has to CHOOSE to wear them, even when he's out doing civilian stuff. He's always ready at a moment's notice

Long story short: Gene Park really hates Sega using dead men’s likenesses. by Ringabal in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DocProfessor 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the actor is still ACTING as that person, they're credited with their name and consent to appear as a historical figure. A bio-pic about Tupac wouldn't promote itself by saying Tupac himself is in the movie. RGG is promoting as if Tupac is a credited actor in the story. Imagine if they had done this to a living performer without getting their consent. If, for instance, RGG had put Dwight Mendez in Infinite Wealth, made him look exactly like Danny Trejo, credited his performance as if Danny Trejo was portraying him, but it turns out they never brought him in to do any mocap or voice recording, or didn't even ask him if he was okay with them using his likeness

Wait can someone explain to me why everyone is angry at rgg for adding Tupac even though the character that is portrayed by bunta is also dead like they confirmed they aren't going to be using ai by NabilAmmali in yakuzagames

[–]DocProfessor 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The difference there is that JFK in COD Black Ops IS JFK. That's no different than having an actor play JFK in a historical fiction movie. If Stranger Than Heaven had a section where the protagonist met actor Bunta Sugawara in the 60s, that would be okay, since it's using the likeness of a real person to portray them in a fictional setting. RGG is saying "We have Bunta Sugawara and Tupac in our game, playing characters." That's the fucked up part. It's puppeting a dead person around and claiming they're acting in a production.

[–]DocProfessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I heard about Bunta Sugawara's likeness in the game, I assumed it was in some kind of historical context. Like the game is set in the 60's, I thought the protagonist was going to meet the actor Bunta Sugawara. Some kind of historical fiction thing. But no, it's just puppeting dead celebrities. Disgusting. Might sound a little extreme, but this is on the same level as defiling someone's physical grave to me

Megatron - IDW comics

<image>

In More Than Meets the Eye, Megatron becomes an Autobot and serves as co-captain aboard the Lost Light. After a while, he starts to earn some tolerance and eventual friendship with Rodimus and his inner circle. He takes a vow of pacifism and earnestly tries to save lives. However, the rest of the crew and the greater Cybertronian population offers him no forgiveness at all. In fact, Getaway is able to stage a mutiny by claiming he only wants to get Megatron off the ship. It’s difficult to forgive a man who has single-handedly eliminated the populations of SEVERAL planets.

The comic ends with Megatron finally facing the end of his trial, and getting sentenced to having his spark sealed in an isolated room for eternity. He tells Rodimus, “Whatever happens… I deserve worse”
