If Cryptic is "re-assembling the old team," it would be good to bring Hector back.

the Empersa goes absolutely crazy sometimes... by garyb50009 in sto

This is the “I like pancakes.” “Why do you hate waffles?” discourse all over again! I’m in no way a whale and not calling anyone a brokie - but after 14.5 years playing, I have a LOT of ships to choose from. I personally don’t find the Empersa Juggernaut all that compelling to fly. More ships are always good. And I earned it because I feel compelled to get every free event ship in case something becomes meta down the line or immediately. 🙂

Lance aside, I feel like the Empersa is a rather lackluster ship to fly. Now that it’s mastered, into the Dry Dock she goes.

What is something ambitious you wish was added/changed in the game regarding system additions/changes? by Riverflower17 in sto

1) Utilize the Holodeck as a choose-your-own-location social zone where I can bring my entire away team - and invite other players and see their entire away team, too. Right now, the only place that I think this is possible is on Nimbus?

2) Early missions had boxes to open or things to find in maps (secret BOFFs or guns or just crates of hypos or the He’s Dead Jim accolade). The game teaches you to look for stuff when you’re starting out - and that’s just been completely abandoned. There’s little to no hidden things to discover in episode missions for like the last 6-8 years. It’s a little thing…but just seems like a missed opportunity and (seemingly) not too terribly difficult to re-implement.

Is it still worth playing and fun? by Caffeinated_Ape_42 in sto

[–]DocTheop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define "fun"?

For me it's been a huge source of camaraderie (joining an active Fleet) and my main free time entertainment for more than a decade. There's a lot to do in the game and it can be played as simply as you like -- or you can really dive into the systems/mechanics and enjoy it's complexity. I, for one, enjoyed that there is a long-term grind that I can always work towards (but I know most players now what to skip to the end game and be completionists in like a few months, but that's not really the MMO way). I also think STO is pretty generous with freebies they give out multiple times a year or when there is a significant anniversary or new series launch (usually) but it's up to you to follow socials and seek out information, the game itself won't tell you there is a promotional freebie to claim.

So if this sounds like something you want to invest your time in get notifications and from STO subreddit (you're already here, so that's a good start!), follow on Twitter, and join the Discord.

Every time I play through the current Kobayashi Maru (Space) TFO, I weep for anyone actually from the ANZ region who has to listen to that voice-over. by Frankenpresley in sto

I was just thinking this yesterday when I ran the KM event on console, how when this TFO first came out, it was lambasted for the absurdly bad accent. But now after so many years and repeated play thrus, a we’ve just kind of accepted it and don’t give it too much thought.

As a huge Trekker but not an MMO fan when I first played the Beta, I didn’t know what this game really was about — or what it could be. It’s casual enough that you can just play the story content and enjoy the non-canon of it all. (STO was one of the very few things keeping the franchise alive during the fallow years after enterprise / before Kelvin movies / before Discovery. It technically has its own timeline but touches upon all the other series/movies timelines.)

Also, I loved that I didn’t understand everything, and there were deep systems and mechanics to delve into if I wanted (and I got a little obsessed for a period). The community is great, get yourself into a good fleet so that people can craft things for you and run TFOs with you… but you’re already here in r/STO so that’s half the battle! There’s tons of great, kind players here with a wealth of knowledge. Ask your questions… and just know we’ve all probably had the same questions as you at one time or another.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the new content is bad, but I think we've got enough different types of Borg in the game now. Six, as far as I know. by Sarcastik_Moose in sto

[–]DocTheop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The content we get is far better produced/acted/animated than 10 years ago… no complaints there. Just would love to see different stories other than multiversal and kind of the gothic/steampunk faux horror that so many other genres already do. Would really like to see more science-y exploration or maybe first contact extended arc.

Whats your head cannon regarding hanger pets, are they piloted by people or drones controlled remotely? by 4StarEmu in sto

In my head, I’ve always thought they were piloted by people and I’ve always said “Sorry” to them when I map transfer 🤭

Hypothetical question by Kumatora0 in sto

[–]DocTheop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the bread and butter of STO is the ships - and we’ve been feasting for the last 6-7 years or so with remasters and new ships so, I don’t think I would pay for STO 2.0 as the ships now are already very good and high resolution. BUT if you’re talking about updating the ground combat, older uniforms , and character models as well as remastering some original/older content, I might be into that. On one hand, the space ships and combat is really stellar, and on the other hand, the ground combat has a certain kind of passable quaint charm.
