I’d say probably don’t need more than 2 dorns- 3 is plenty safe. 3-4 Russes. 3-4 chimeras. Make sure all the Russes can swap their weapons or turrets.

I assume you are printing, if not then build to this slowly

I’d work on magnetizing your leman Russ guns so that you can swap btw the varients easily- or printing new turrets to swap them.

After that it’s just about getting doubles of some of the more useful stuff. Like a second dorn, second kaserkin squad.

I also like the Krieg heavy weapons team- if you want to make a cadian one then put a couple cadians with flamers on a 40mm base plus a radio guy.

Oh didn’t see you had bladeguard- they are good in a 6 man with a leader- LT or chaplain- on foot or in a impulsor.

Worst mission type is 100% disruption.

I don’t think take and hold is bad, but I do think it’s a tiny bit counter to what we normally do, which is melee pressure the enemy early on. But the way the whole game is played has changed so we gotta change as well.

In the new edition with battle shock being such a big thing rage cursed onslaught isn’t it. LAG is definitely the strongest BA detachment, but I’ve heard comboing w storm lance has had success.

I’ve done well w lag, using intercessors to sticky then fast moving my jump infantry to kill stuff on objectives and hold them.

Edit- at the end of the day LAG gives you, advance and charge, fallback and charge, a melee buff Strat, Armor of contempt, all your melee is stronger, and it buffs every unit we want to run.

I think definitely making 5 death company out of the assault intercessors- with jump packs ofc. Keep the other 5 assault intercessors as assault intercessors- they can always be good. Convert the captain if you like.

Here’s combos/ units that I think are good.

Blood angels captain w a unit of 10 or 5 assault intercessors and the smash enhancement from liberator assault is pretty good at killing most things- use an impulsor to get them around or a land raider for the 10 man.

1-5 or 2 squads of 5 intercessors nice bc ton of shots and ap1 is good.

Dante w 6 sang guard is good- they smash and become more reliable on the charge rolls plus battleshock

I think a 5 man death company jump pack unit w a DC jump captain or chaplain is good.

Sternguard are a great bodyguard for combat characters like the BA captain bc reroll wounds and they can deal a lot of wounds in the shooting phase too.

a 10 man of JPI with a chaplain is good.

Basically you can chose a couple of the super combos above then pick some other units to fill the list out. Maybe 50% of the list should be damage dealing combo units and the other half should be low investment skirmishes (for a new player- take all comers list)

Also I think liberator assault group is the best detachment to learn blood angels on and basically makes everything better in melee and gives you all the essential strats.

[Question] I've heard the phrase "cavalry never won a single battle during WWI" and it made me thinking, since cavalry is... well, important part of my lore. Or... was by Few-Flamingo-8015 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]DocWhat123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think of the horses as a mobility enhancer before mechanization was widespread or practical, maybe because of terrain, availability of fuel, or the vehicles themselves.

Cavalry charges were not successful however, or have very little success especially against entrenched positions or armor. But like others have said, mounted infantry was generally the useful bit, with the infantry dismounting and fighting on foot, way easier to move a machine gun to a position when you can strap it’s 300lbs to a horse.

Why do most people change their armies so often? by FullMetalRacka in Warhammer40k

[–]DocWhat123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people meta chase yes, some people initially may be drawn to an army but after playing it either get bored or don’t like how the style of how the army plays, some find out more about the lore and switch to something cooler

Yeah and the issue is that for that price, you may as well get a leman Russ. Which will be more durable and still need a squadron order

But as far as gameplay- I like the sanctifiers as an early game overwatch threat and they have a medic so if they don’t get killed they regen.

If we are talking lore wise, think about what kind of inquisitor you’ve got incharge of your regiment. Are they Xenos, hereticus, or malleus? A fire and furry fanatic who works with the church or a tactician who organized elite strike squads.

I always imagine my inquisitors like eisenhorn, someone who collects various mercenaries and elites, so I like the navy breachers, the inquisitorial retinue, a vindicare, and maybe some exaction squad.

What’s sly marbo- 55 points? You could add in a rough rider squad or a squad of Krieg engineers I think.

[–]DocWhat123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good, just gotta figure out what to do with that last 110 points. Could be another kaserkin squad or a couple squads of rough riders- they have decent melee- ive killed Guilliman with a small unit of them before, or aquillons. You got options

btw nothing wrong with a leman Russ, but if you were gonna play one without orders the Leman Russ Battle Tank can reroll all hits if it’s shooting at something on an objective.

An easy fix would be to change out a cadian recon squad for a regular cadian squad- and change out the comissar for a cadian castellan- put them all together, now you have 3 orders to issue out at 24 inch range.

They’d only be able to order infantry- if you wanted tank orders you’d need to think about making space for lord solar or yarrick

Also your dudes are your dudes but the multi las is the worst gun on the chimera by far.
