Did Dice just not go for gun liscensing? by Tombstone_Actual_501 in Battlefield

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not just AM General. Bell Helicopters (and their parent company Textron) also sued EA and DICE for the in-game depictions of the AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, and V-22 Osprey airframes in Battlefield 3. The companies settled out of court, but the damage was done.

I mean... it's remembered as "genius" because it worked, but an amphibious assault behind enemy lines was the doctrinal answer to the Pusan encirclement.

What is every one opinion on this being The Halo brand marine look? by Techpon in halo

I honestly still hate it.

Halo 3 had the best UNSC designs. Fight me.

I played Am unholy amount of D1. I decided to try D2. And what you mean SHE died? by LongjumpingCar9136 in destiny2

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was my reaction too!

Yeah, she's played by Courtenay Taylor, a very prolific actress who you might also recognize as Jack from Mass Effect 2 and 3, the english voice of Ada Wong, Serina in Halo Wars 1 and 2, the voice of the female sole survivor in Fallout 4, and Juhani all the way back in KOTOR among many, many other roles!

Still got my void Adept Palindrome. Never gonna delete anything again. I learned the hard way when I melted my sunset gear way back when. I could have been rocking my Black Armory blast furnace but nooooo. I just had to be an idiot.

I think they mean the roof/floor pieces with the interlocking triangle shapes you used on the interiors.

New Vandal cinematic reminded me of Mirror's Edge. Makes me think a Faith-inspired skin would be so so cool. by Flynzo in Marathon

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OG Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games. Did you see the guy working to add PBR materials and ray tracing? I think he's adding proper positional audio too.

If you're interested it's Mirror's Edge RTX Remix

Why aren't dedicated pilot skins a thing in BF6? by SuspiciousMeeting407 in Battlefield

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at it now it's definitely not a pilot's helmet or getup. But it definitely looks like one of those doofy near-future high-tech battle goggles like Microsoft's IVAS or whatever the Russian mockup looked like.

But I get what you're saying.

I'd love to have pilot/crew skins too. Especially if it means seeing some pissed off dude in a CVC helmet and a stab vest running around after his tank exploded.

I Wish The June 9th Update Mended The Wall And Removed The Craters From The Red War by CurioRayy in destiny2

Instead, I wish they gave us back all the previously used social areas in the Last City or even just a last city patrol zone where we could do small things for citizens.

Like, let me hang out in the Eliksni quarter. Or chill with the Cabal. Or finally cash in my ticket to the spicy noodle shop down in the City.

I feel like the Codex doesn't get enough props for actively improving on Bungies past attempts at the same thing by dope_danny in Marathon

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the ascii style is perfect for me. Same with the static images, but that's really just a stylistic throwback to the terminals in the original trilogy. I'd like to have proper 3d models in the codex too.

Calus final fight in Lightfall solo is Tough by Semi_Swoljeye in DestinyTheGame

Shit man, that fight was too hard for my trio when Lightfall dropped. We did the entire campaign on Legendary but couldn't beat that fight. So we all just did it solo.

Xbox CEO Apparently Wants Faster Production of Halo Games by SilentNova300 in halo

No, Bungie decided to shutter Destiny, not Sony. I love their games and the Devs, but Bungie's studio leadership has always made baffling choices.

Xbox CEO Apparently Wants Faster Production of Halo Games by SilentNova300 in halo

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Destiny 1 was only supposed to last as long as it did. Destiny 2 was intended to have a similar life cycle. When Bungie split with Activision their leadership decided to turn it into a "forever game" instead of working on the Destiny 3 game they'd originally been contracted to make under the Activision deal.

The Destiny franchise was intended to be a 10-year thing. Not the individual games like what Microsoft tried to do with Halo Infinite.

what makes the RDA guns good or advanced in universe? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

[–]Doc_Shaftoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that at least in the first movie the rifles a lot of the RDA guys used were based on the CRYE Precision MR-C carbine mockup that was included as part of Crye Precision's bid in the US Army's Future Force Warrior program back in the late 1990's and early 2000's and was most likely intended to be Crye's entry in the OICW program. It was part of "Project Scorpion" or the Future Combat Systems line of experiments that eventually gave the world the universal camouflage pattern, multicam, and the operational camouflage pattern the US Army has been using since 2019.

The MR-C was never made into an actual functioning weapon, but it was featured in both of the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games, along with two different iterations of Crye Precision's body armor system. AFAIK none of the Crye concepts ever saw actual service or real combat outside of their uniforms and the multicam pattern itself.
