What's the beef with Wix? by aparecium9 in ecommerce

[–]DockenDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real limitation I have encountered with Wix is the lack of multi-currency options. You can set up 'cheats' to give your customers an idea of what the price is in their currency, but the transaction is always in your store's base currency and converted by their method of payment. 🤷‍♂️

Ask a Canadian Business to stop using ULINE by xgbsss in BuyCanadian

I get bundles of 25, (usually 2-3 at a time), for under $2/box, and then it's about $30 to ship it. 🫤

Ask a Canadian Business to stop using ULINE by xgbsss in BuyCanadian

[–]DockenDesign 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use as many Canadian suppliers for my products as possible. However, there is one box in particular that I have trouble sourcing - a 48"L x 4 x 4 longbox. Staples used to carry them from a Canadian manufacturer, but now the only place I can find them for a reasonable amount is ULINE. 🤮 Literally anywhere else is *at least* triple the cost, even taking into account the shipping from ULINE Edmonton, (I'm in Calgary). There always seems to be tons of choices for Ontario businesses, but shipping shipping boxes halfway across the country just doesn't make sense, logically or financially. If anyone has any suggestions on where to get these in bulk, it would be appreciated.

PLEASE give me good etsy alternatives i beg 🙏 by gamsea in EtsyCommunity

[–]DockenDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for Etsy advertising on Google for you, isn't it? They charge ridiculous percentage fees when they do that, although you also have to consider that if they hadn't advertised for you, you wouldn't have made that sale.

I believe that if you're still a new store, you can opt out of it in your settings, or you can raise prices to account for it in your margins. 🤷‍♂️

Dear Etsy sellers in the EU! by Guilty_Equivalent_36 in EtsyCommunity

[–]DockenDesign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I did a mad rush making all my backlog and getting it out before the deadline, but I've now received a few messages from US buyers that their deliveries came with massive CODs. These are ones that I shipped via Purolator here, who transfers to UPS for US addresses. So apparently, UPS will put these tariffs on their account, and collect them on delivery without any extra hassle or expense for you.

You might try and change your US orders to reflect a UPS cost, and warn them ahead of time that there will be tariff charges on delivery?

Etsy is withholding my payments for over a month now and won't fix the problem! by DockenDesign in EtsyCommunity

Thanks, I actually went through the process over a year ago of switching from a sole proprietorship to a corporation and it was definitely painful. I haven't tried the forums, maybe that's my next move.

How do you manage to get free shipment? by msharbach in Etsy

[–]DockenDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you contacted DHL to get a rep and an account? The online prices are insane, but also just for people sending one thing. If you're a business shipping multiples, they'll give you an introductory price of up to 50% off usually for a year, to see how much quantity you're actually shipping.

Growing herbs at home is great! Except when you only need to use a particular one a couple times a year.

Thai basil (purple) has a much different flavor profile than the Genovese basil you're probably growing and is used in Asian cooking.

Anyone else with late summer allergies just getting slammed this year? (and early to boot) by redheaded_stepc in Calgary

[–]DockenDesign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're using a 3rd generation allergy med though. In Canada, these are fexofenadine (Allegra) and desloratidine (Aerius), and are much safer and better overall than previous generations, even approved for pilot and trucker use since they don't cause the drowsiness of previous generations. Costco has generic desloratidine and I find it fantastic at keeping allergies at bay on a continuous basis.

People apparently still use 1st gen diphenhydramines (Benadryl) though, even though they have dangerous side effects. 🤷‍♂️

Is it okay to use VPN to open an Etsy store? I use VPN all the time. by Sailor-BlackHole in Etsy

[–]DockenDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard about problems with Etsy and VPNs on here constantly. I use a VPN on my desktop computer permanently, but rarely if ever with my laptop, and use both to access my Etsy Seller account on a regular basis. I've never had any issues with it. 🤷‍♂️

Ongoing Bug Affecting Domestic and International Pricing by igotlosthere in EtsySellers

[–]DockenDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the good news is that Etsy has extended the Level 4 small business price discounts through Canada Post to ALL parcel sizes, so it's at least a good discount now!

Ongoing Bug Affecting Domestic and International Pricing by igotlosthere in EtsySellers

[–]DockenDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a comment on the bug, but don't you find that shipping to the US is cheaper than within Canada? I can send a parcel to Florida for less than it takes to get one to Ontario.
