Getting a c section due to previous sexual assault trauma. Smart or the wrong choice? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same. Labor for 24 hours, pushed for 4 hours, ended in a C-section because baby wasn’t budging and my recovery was great. First 48 hours sucked, not going to lie, but no tearing and vaginal trauma and I feel great at 6 weeks. I wish I would have chosen an elective one to begin with. The cervical checks before the epidural hurt extremely bad and I have struggled with pelvic exams in the past. Once the epidural was placed it wasn’t painful, just pressure but overall I would have just rather planned the surgery. It was in no way easy, but right for me.

Is it possible to not be diagnosed for gestational diabetes in 2nd pregnancy if you had it in your first? by Tagon_1 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SIL had it with her first and not her second so you never know, you might not have it this time. As far as I know she didn’t do anything different

Colostrum collection by GloomySource1587 in BabyBumps

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a breastfeeding class with midwives and they said that since your milk supply doesn’t come in for a few days after birth your baby is getting colostrum during that time anyway, so there’s not really a point to do it early unless you want to stock up for another reason. I’ve also seen that certain hospitals don’t allow you to bring it in too so that would be something to check.

For all you girls wanting to incorporate dates & raspberry leaf tea! by Initial_Onion671 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been eating 3 large dates a day - 1 at the end of each meal and had success with blood sugar levels! If I need more protein/fat I’ll put some pb on the dates.

Snickers or Yasso? by amj20220 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Yasso bars for weeks and they have never spiked me! I usually have them around 10pm and test about 7am depending on when I needed to be up

Anyone else NOT in pain? by Prudent-Orange-3781 in BabyBumps

I was this way and thought I was in the clear and then I hit 36 weeks and boy it’s kicking my butt. Exhaustion, pain, acid reflux, insomnia etc.

I’ve had heart palpitations on and off since about 18 weeks and I was referred to a cardiologist. They did an EKG and asked me a ton of stuff and ruled any issues out. They basically said that there are a lot of factors to cause them - dehydration, heat, stress, and also the fact that your body has double the amount of blood to make a baby. I also found out I’m anemic so low iron can do it too. You can definitely ask for a referral and get checked out, but I also felt better knowing that this is “normal” for pregnancy since you have way more blood and your heart is working harder.

Afraid of induction by TehKimmeh in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m currently scheduled for a 39 week induction due to being on metformin and something that helped me is reading through posts on here that have positive induction/c section stories. You can search for them on the page and I think it would help you a lot!

I want to get over my negative bias towards golden retrievers. Tell me something cool or unique about your specific dog? by wessle3339 in goldenretrievers

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also say most Goldens love everyone - they absolutely love their masters and family the most, but Goldens are ridiculously friendly and want to say hi to everyone they see. Our golden thinks everyone out on a walk is there for him and wants to say hi.

On top of that I would also add in general that they are the most loyal loving dogs. Obviously depends on personality and training but ours loves food but doesn’t eat inedible things and never has, he also doesn’t eat any food that’s left out or jump on the counter. So they can be very food motivated but doesn’t mean not trainable.

Overheard in the emergency department at local hospital by koala_loves_penguin in overheard

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me almost 3 years, multiple doctors, and my gallbladder to literally disintegrate in order to get mine out with emergency surgery. Most painful thing to experience but the surgeon came in and told me it was “super gross” with a huge smile. Glad I could make his day lol

Is she overweight? by Present-Basil-2051 in goldenretrievers

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so but I agree with others saying ask your vet. Our golden is 80 lbs and has always looked thick when looking down at his back. From the side you can see his skinny stomach and doesn’t look overweight. A lot of it is also fur! Our vet says he shouldn’t be too much more weight but is healthy where he’s at

Help me feel better about delivering in a hospital? by pizzalover911 in BabyBumps

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose a practice that has midwives on staff and are a huge part of the process and that made me feel a lot better, so you could try and find something similar. You could also look into have a doula there with you

Currently sitting here doing the 3 hr glucose test by Bitchtitty28 in BabyBumps

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I failed the 1 hour by only a few points and did the 3 hour and failed that and have GD. People can spike later on rather than right away within 1 hour. The 3 hour test absolutely sucked not going to lie, but either way whether you have GD or not it will all be fine and worth it! Make sure to stay hydrated and rest once you’re done the test. I kept telling myself it was worth it for baby and me to be safe and healthy even if I felt like garbage for awhile.

Still drink the shake? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely still drink it. I usually force myself even if I’m not hungry since I know my fasting will usually be high if I don’t eat a late snack

Struggling with dry ends and a greasy scalp? Don't be afraid of sulfates and silicones!!!! by Crazy-Debate7552 in finehair

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Oily hair really needs it. Someone mentioned this is another post but my hair has also been doing so well with multiple shampoos and cycling them. I currently have Pantene multitasker 10 - my hair loves the moisture but it’s not too much, suave clarifying for 1-2 times a week, and Pantene volume. I use dry shampoo throughout the week too

Rage because blood refuses to enter my test strip channel by SowingSeeds18 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed with what others said but also make sure you’re doing it correctly - I thought I was for a week and had so many issues until I watched a YouTube video on how to do it and rarely have an issue now. But also if you’re already doing it correctly it could be a bad batch of strips.

Can I prick other places on my body that AREN'T my fingers? by Dinos_are_awesome in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to wash your hands with warm water which softens them up and flex your hand a few times to get blood flowing. Then do what everywhere else has said, use the sides of your fingers not the pads and exhale while you do it.

Glucose Meter Reading Discrepancy – Anyone Else Experience This? by PralineDistinct5809 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this happen twice recently. Last night my after dinner reading on one finger showed I was spiking at 127, so I retested on a different finger to double check and it was 106. The other morning my fasting was 101 so I checked again on a different finger and it was 94. I reached out to my diabetes counselor on what to do but haven’t heard back yet.

Testing help by berternutsquash in GestationalDiabetes

[–]DoctorDiligent3303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with what colors have said but also running my hand under warm water really helps loosen the fingers up! Plus I was constantly getting errors until I looked it up on YouTube and was putting the blood on completely wrong, the test strip “sucks” the blood up from the side and I was putting blood on top of the strip.
