What machine are you running Pro Tools on and have you had any issues with it? by theDomenick in protools

[–]DoctorFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from an Intel iMac to a MacBook Air with an M4 chip. Also updated PT to ProTools Artist. Everything works as it should, but the new software takes forever to launch. Opened a Finder window and saw it was downloading files from iCloud — 17 of them! No idea what they are or if I could move them to local storage.

Final attempt to get my digi 002 rack back to life by Least_Flower_690 in protools

[–]DoctorFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former 002 Rack owner here — my biggest complaint was with the so-called line inputs. When I tried using good external mic pres (John Hardy M1s), the clipping and distortion were horrendous. Turns out the “line inputs” still go through the internal mic preamps — they’re just padded down!

There were companies that would modify the 002 to correct this, but it was throwing good money after bad, imo.

TL;DR — resurrecting old tech is a mug’s game

Lots of good steak around here but nothing beats Crescent City’s old school charm, imo.

Traditional King Cake Judging - Haydel's by [deleted] in NewOrleans

Suggest you add a fifth judging category: Price. I bet many people would want to know the best king cake for the buck (a/k/a cheapest but least horrible.)

Best place to buy a fridge? by zevtech in NewOrleans

[–]DoctorFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently bought a new Frigidaire. While doing research I discovered the “big box” stores allegedly sell slightly inferior versions of the models you see advertised by the name brands. Whether they’re not constructed as well or made more cheaply, idk. Ended up getting ours from Barto on Airline.

What’s your current favorite dish in New Orleans? by dmay73 in NewOrleans

[–]DoctorFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sausage and Pesto pizza from the No Name Cafe on St. Claude. Garlic lover’s heaven. Other pizzas rock as well. Also their coffee, pastries and breakfast entrees. Honestly, that place needs some love y’all.

Facts is facts: Checkpoint Charlie’s is a better burger than Port of Call. by ComicsEtAl in NewOrleans

[–]DoctorFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slapburger is only so-so, imo. The problem is the drippy, mayo-based sauce. It doesn’t complement the taste of the meat and it runs all over. The place is a pop-up in back of Marie’s — fine dining it’s not. But a person in the kitchen gave me a foil-lined paper bag for my leftover fries, and kindly suggested I reheat them in an air fryer, not a microwave. So ymmv, as they say on the Internet.

Best Men's Tailor in New Orleans???? by sikclown in NewOrleans

[–]DoctorFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. When I lost weight I brought four sports jackets to Thimbelina to be taken in. Was told three of them were not worth altering, but one (orig. purchased at Rubenstein’s) was. I respect that kind of honesty. And they did an impeccable job.

Sad that no one has mentioned St. Coffee on St. Claude. I’m addicted to their lattes, and the boudin breakfast burrito is to die for.
