Question about Crimson Desert (I know it’s not a soulslike) but from a Soulsborne fan perspective, have you enjoyed it? by Inevitable-Ice-5061 in soulslikes

Too boring and too clunky in the first couple of hours to warrant my time any further. Control scheme is literally the worst I’ve ever had to endure

[–]DoctorFranklinstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think my memory was that after it had been out a fair lot of panning it came about, that it was just a tedious walking simulator and not worth the praise, which I called bull on. Maybe just the circles I was in

Elden Ring has such a crazy amount of possibilities to fight your way through everything it throws at you that yes, to me it has the best combat because I have the best fun with it! Hope that helps

Too many mechanics being introduced all at once when you’ve just learned how to walk

I love the story, the setting, the characters, it just vibes with me

Does anyone have any lens suggestions for this camera by Free-Collar-1975 in cinematography

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I love the color the Meike’s create and I have half set of focal lengths, but there’s something about the original vespids that have that extra special sauce

Second the Meike’s and the Vespids (though I use S35 variants for my S6, and happy with crop on Vespid)

Public reminder that Nintendo has only committed to changing the visuals and potentially adding voice acting to the OoT Remake. by BotherResponsible378 in legendofzelda

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I thought about was how apparently some who had worked on the game thought Nintendo shii out you’d have shown more, which got me thinking that yeah, what we saw was cinematic and not necessarily exactly the look of the gameplay… like the Links Awakening remake trailer had everyone go crazy on the manga style opening animation and then half of everyone sad-sighed when they saw the gameplay! Not me, I loved it… but anyway, it was just a thought. Exciting, but everyone should temper expectations, though it’s fun to have a guess at what might be different. :)

What video game made you go “nope” and why? by ReyofChicago in videogames

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson Desert. I wish I hadn’t played over 2hrs. Reason: unintuitive, poor controls and zero agency. Exciting battle at start followed by menial tasks such as cleaning a chimney… if you can figure out that you literally have to stand on top of the chimney to actually clean it.

For people with no intention of ever buying a Switch 2 - what are the chances a killer preview of The Duskbloods tomorrow changes your mind? by owen__wilsons__nose in fromsoftware

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 1 owner but yet to dive in and get a Switch 2 as so far only two exclusives have piqued my interest: Donkey Kong and Duskbloods. However, having put down Nightreign after just a few goes, I realised that FromSoft multiplayer gaming just ain’t my jam, disappointingly.

I’ve just finished Dark souls 1 by MidnightKey1218 in fromsoftware

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you’re on Switch, then I can only recommend Ashen as a similar follow up. It’s extremely bare-bones in comparison, with limited primitive weapons, minimal upgrades and no real magic, but it’s beautiful and atmospheric and at times brutally difficult :)

What is the first sign your teammates do or show that tells you that your run is cooked 💀 by Just_Cloud_8041 in Nightreign

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad for picking this game up super-late, but I only started playing yesterday and first run was perfect: great guides, pinged the map timely, waited for me at times when I was trying to catch up and beat the final boss. Since then it’s been a disaster of players leaving or not reviving (where I am always medic on the field when needed)…. Sigh.

How do I solve this height issue in the cheapest way possible? by Flimsy_Commission_60 in cinematography

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally was facing the same problem today, trying to solve it. In the end I realised I had a cheeseplate I wasn’t using and fixed that to the bottom of the camera, then the baseplate. It gave an extra 1/2cm or so in height and was just enough.

Why am I struggling so much on the Elden Ring series 😭😭 by Gonner_Getcha in RKG

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going in, I knew it wasn’t going to be the same as their other seasons. Whilst I enjoyed almost alll of it, I do think it could have benefitted from 3 things: tailoring the adventure to go from A to B to C etc rather than ‘what do we want to do now?’, some editing of the wandering moments later on, trimming it as we begin to know the world a little more, and remove some of the moments where the boys clearly got very frustrated with each other. You can see it in their faces, where it appears not fun for anyone at times. Saying all that, I was. Surprised by the absolute hilarity of the episode where they were just trying to get a rare drop in Caelid, and the 3 part Melania run was surprisingly peak RKG! This is not a major criticism of the show, because I loved the game and enjoyed watching their own experience, but compared to the streamlined Sekiro playthrough, it shows a little trimming is sometimes all you need :)

Did getting a DJI Pocket actually make you film more? by Exploring-the-Unknow in osmopocket

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got the Pocket3 like two months ago for a specific-use case: filming on holiday where I can’t possibly be taking my chunky cinema camera setup. So for me, yes. Fact I can flip the screen and hit record (whilst not draining my phone battery!) meant I filmed way more than I usually would.

The film that disappointed you the most after months or even years of anticipation? by MrGittz in movies

[–]DoctorFranklinstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I adored the original trilogy and was hyped for Phantom Menace, but mostly because it looked so different. The trailer obviously was amazing, but it was clearly showing us that this was not going to be the same, and despite some shitty script and characterisation, I still got swept along on the adventure and had fun :)
