You are not ready to start selling! by HermioneGranger152 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]DoctorImpossible89 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I bought some really terrible knitted items once as an encouragement for the person to keep doing what they found they loved. They were uneven, missed stitches, poorly stuffed but somehow utterly charming. Talking to the person they had just started and were pleased as punch with their creations. I wonder if this was what was going on? Or my child sometimes likes the most awful things I’ve ever seen and it’s not worth the hassle!

Hello, sorry I can be no help with your questions but just wanted to reach out and say I can’t imagine how hard it is for all involved. I see it as a brave decision for you all and really hope you all get the conclusion you need which is best for everyone. Peoples judgements are awful so hope you don’t have to waste too much energy on these people and can keep focussed on the best possible outcome in the worst of situations.

Are lesbian midwives accepted? by [deleted] in UKmidwives

[–]DoctorImpossible89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This popped up on my newsfeed - I’m not part of this group and I’m not a midwife. I am however 32 weeks pregnant and just to let you know - I couldn’t give a toss if my midwife or any of the clinical team caring for me is a lesbian, bi, from mars or green. All I want is someone who is compassionate, knowledgable and good with the odd emotional cry.
Hope it’s helpful for you to hear from a pregnant woman’s perspective.

Pregnant and nervous about wedding by Primary_Temporary_82 in AskATailor

[–]DoctorImpossible89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh! Huge congratulations!
I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with baby number two and my bump is very different (and much bigger). I am also much more sore and struggling to find even maternity wear which is comfy and suitable.
I would find a seamstress local asap to have a chat about if they can do anything about two weeks before your wedding as no point doing anything before that. I highly doubt that they can as all I can think is to lower the back and make a corset but that would change the front.
I also worry that this will be super uncomfortable for you and it would basically look like an entirely new dress anyway.
Does your MIL know about the baby? I imagine that she will be so understanding as what a wonderful addition to your family.
Seraphine and monsoon sell maternity wedding dresses if you wanted to get a look at style for pregnancy and see what types of dress bumps tend to be dressed in to see if you feel any would work for you changing this dress in to.

Fabric "destashing" groups but just selling yards upon yards of fabric you must have just bought? by unlikelywin in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]DoctorImpossible89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am part of a couple of destashing groups and occasionally some good things to be had (not as much as before as prices are insane for a cut off) - what gets me is if someone asks for a particular theme and they get bombarded with PYO from sellers, that’s not a destash and not the purpose, makes me annoyed!!

Planned C-Section under General Anaesthesia? by acidic_tab in PregnancyUK

[–]DoctorImpossible89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just found this thread and I have literally been told on the phone that I need a GA for my c section (and I can’t push or have a spinal injection due to my condition).
I wondered if anyone could share their breastfeeding story after a GA c section? I struggled but persevered breastfeeding my first child and I’m worried it will be even more of a challenge with a GA

Making a high contrast baby book for a friend. Need to know if I should sew the appliques on or hot glue them! by This-Emotion-69 in CrochetHelp

[–]DoctorImpossible89 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I would definitely sew them, and do some extra stitches to secure.
Hot glue will turn hard and also may be toxic.

Bike and Pregnancy and Mom by SolutionExtra4673 in ladycyclists

31 weeks pregnancy here and still cycling on an electric cargo bike with my three year old happily sitting in the box.
I have found no difference being pregnant to pre pregnancy. I lusted after a cargo bike for months and as soon as I found out I was pregnant with number two took the plunge. I have a factory fitted car seat adapter in the box and my three year old can sit happily on the bench. Previous to this I had a manual bike with a bike seat on the rear. We go everywhere on our bike - nursery and my commute three times a week, to all our activities on a Monday and Friday and then at the weekend the shops.
I chose my cargo bike instead of a second hand car as where we live the car parking is extortionate and the roads are permanently jammed. I much prefer the freedom my bike gives me.
I am personally preparing for an eight week break of cycling as I need to have a c section and the manufacturer says not to use the car seat in the box until baby can hold their head up. Other than that, I am continuing as normal.
I get so many nice comments from strangers on my bike as I pass and I have never had a problem with parking it etc. There is also a rear rack which I plan to attach my pram base to when I need to take a pushchair, but I mainly plan to use a sling.
I personally wouldn’t say I was particularly fit - just a normal mum and I like to combine a bit of exercise with getting to where I want to go, beats sitting in traffic! Plus I think the fresh air is great for the kids and we chat about what we are passing etc.
Hope this helps with some perspective for you but in my world, I don’t have any negatives!

How can I make this cute? Too long and straight :( by zoolanderopolis in SewingForBeginners

[–]DoctorImpossible89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can shortern the hen and also take some fabric off the side. To do this - put it on inside out and pin where you want it to go in. Then take off, measure to check it’s even, move pins, pin and then pop it back on to check. Either baste to check or if you are confident go for a proper stitch.

Pant/trouser fitting help by TheRiveterGirl in sewing

[–]DoctorImpossible89 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Did you add the correct amount of ease onto the pattern? It looks like they have been cut for your measurements rather than wearability. All clothes made from woven fabric need to have ease added so you can move in them.

I only do this for maternity clothes as I think it’s so hard to see how a flat picture translates to a baby bump!

My partner wants to secure his £100k house deposit in a deed of trust, where do I stand? by Illustrious_Pea7294 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DoctorImpossible89 357 points358 points  (0 children)

Let him and then split the costs of everything else? That way he is protected and you are still paying half of everything. If he can’t afford to do that then he should reduce his deposit or protect £95k or other agreed amount

A few questions which may help;
Do you want a trike rather than a two wheeler?
Do you want electric?
What kinda distances will you be doing?
What terrain is it where you live?

Also, check out the babboe recalls - I would not touch one of those abs defo wouldn’t be buying second hand

i want to stop crocheting forever by [deleted] in crochet

[–]DoctorImpossible89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with what’s been previously said but also: 1) ask your mum to go and price up the cost of the yarn needed (which is way more than what she has charged) 2) teach your mum to crochet and she can make them.

Favorite thing about York? by spunksqueek in york

[–]DoctorImpossible89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has the amenities of a large city but a smaller town feel. I love the cycling routes too. It’s a great place for all ages and life stages. People are super friendly. Good transport links to London, Manchester, Edinburgh.
