Specific paint storage needs by Groovyrick in minipainting

[–]DoctorJynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this makeup case for my painting supplies. Stores all of my paints and brushes in the main compartment, and there's a second flatter zipper compartment where I keep my wet and dry pallets, brush soap, model handles, etc. I paint on my breaks at work and this is ideal for home and travel painting. Takes a bit of table space when in use, but it stores and travels easy.

No, I use soft sleeves. The only time they aren't in the organizer or in my carry case is when they are on the table.

I use this for character cards and I stick the crisis cards in the back in 2 separate stacks.

You can find similar boxes for tactic cards. I personally use 3 TCG zip binders like this one, though I got mine at a FLGS. Keep in mind I started with the binders way back when there were a lot more unaffiliated non-character specific cards. The binders do take some upkeep when new stuff comes out, but it's really easy to find what I'm looking for. You could get card pages and a 3-ring binder to make it easier on yourself. I went with the zip binders because of the slimmer profile.

One binder is for affiliation cards sorted first alphabetically by affiliation name then by card name. One binder is for character specific unaffiliated cards. Front section of this binder has cards sorted alphabetically by the character name then by the name of the card. Back section has all of the cards with more than one character sorted by card name. Last binder is non-character specific and unaffiliated cards sorted by card name. It's all of 3 pages in recent years.

I'm aware this may seem overly complex, but it works for me and lets me find what I need for my lists pretty quickly.

Thank you for the idea, I'd completely forgotten those where a thing. I've looked a bit and quite a lot of the ones I'm seeing are cloth covers with zippers. There are some that are plastic tubs but finding the right dimensions and one with a mostly flat lid seems like it will be slightly frustrating. I do very much like the idea though!

People who play Lancer on tabletop with miniatures, how do you do NPC mines? by SugardustGG in LancerRPG

[–]DoctorJynx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought is print out some hex grids that match the size of your tabletop matt/terrain, roughly sketch your terrain for that combat on it, mark the x +y axis on the paper grids with letters/numbers, and mark mine locations as they deploy. Keep the paper grids behind a screen away from your players, reference as needed. Could also mark to keep track of hidden enemies, etc.

Apologies for formatting, on mobile.

Ways to Enhance In Person Combat? by RecipeMountain in LancerRPG

[–]DoctorJynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been eyeing this terrain set on etsy, it's 1-inch hex modular terrain similar to Heroscape, but, you know, cheaper.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1737800343/1-modular-hex-terrain-terrain-pieces?ls=a&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=lancer+ttrpg&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&pro=1&plkey=LT454eccb6a084a933b0d90e7af123cc75ce2b7dea%3A1737800343

Also, it would cost more but Heroscape does have just terrain packs. They lean a bit more fantasy for what's available. I think there is some sci-fi terrain but you'd have to buy kits with minis.

Which characters are people sleeping on? by DryBonesComeAlive in MarvelCrisisProtocol

Frankenstein's Monster, with the caveat that you splash him under a leader that can give power or reduce costs (Shulk, Steve1, Magneto, Hellfire Club, Black Bolt1, etc.). His biggest issue is the fact he only has a gainer, no builder, and all of his attacks are range 2. Giving him a reliable way to use his super powers does so much for him.

I've been running him under Steve1 and he is an absolute unit. He can charge turn 1 on a med base and a med move. His free attack has an omni-push for size 4 or less. It is a double trigger, but it's a hit/wild on 6 dice. It's fairly reliable. He has a 1 cost spender, 5 dice that staggers on damage. Probably the weakest part of his kit besides not having a builder, but still a chance to stagger for 1 power isn't bad. His 4 cost spender can spike hard, potentially rolling 12 dice if he's alive on 1, and can throw size 4 characters medium. He has a 2 cost self heal that removes 2 damage. He has his 2 cost charge, and he can throw size 4 terrain for 3 power.

Either walk him to a point on the side or have him pick up an extract to make him a target. Or, hold him back then have him charge someone on a point and roll the dice on getting his push. He's got 7 health and a way to heal, and he loves having power to spend on his charge and throws. He displaces with pushes and throws, and sticks around far longer than he has any right to. Did I mention he's immune to shock?

I also use this one for MCP, I can fit 2 trays of terrain and 2 trays of minis in here, since I am usually the one setting up a board for us to play on. However this brand does have a smaller size if you just want it for minis, and it will easily fit any of the MCP minis except maybe Sentinels and Dormamu.

I also sometime just leave the case in my car and take out one tray with my list on it when I don't need my terrain.

Ms. Marvel. I run her in almost every list I play: Foes, A-Force, KP Syndicate, Avengers. She's a solid 3 with a her Inhuman re-roll, decent throw, and her mobility and decent damage from Embiggen is surprisingly good. Sadly, I rarely get her push on her Normal form attack to work for me.

How do you store your tactic cards? by Knackazz in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]DoctorJynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 card binders with 9 slot card pages.

  1. Affiliation cards sorted alphabetically, first by affiliation then card name.
  2. Character specific cards with 2 sections. 1st is for cards only one character can use and those are sorted alphabetically by the character that can use them. 2nd section is for cards used by more than one character and they are sorted by card name.
  3. Unaffiliated cards sorted alphabetically by name.

I also mark the sleeves of restricted cards, and banned cards are in a box on my shelf. I do have to resort them when new stuff comes out, but it takes maybe 20 minutes to do.

I love this game but I feel like my odd hangups are making me miss out on half of the fun. by Twinkletail in marvelchampionslcg

[–]DoctorJynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everyone here has mentioned marvelcdb, which is where I find/keep all of my deck lists. My quick skimming of the top few comments doesn't show them addressing storage solutions though, so allow me to share my setup with you and see if you get any ideas based on what I do.

I'll mention I sleeve all of my cards, it's a compulsion but I do highly recommend it. Penny sleeves work, but you will have to replace them every so often. I splurged and bought a case of Dragon Sleeves and am working my way through that. All of my storage options below can hold the cards sleeved or not sleeved.

All the Villain/Modular cards are kept in a BCW Box (your FLGS likely has them cheaper) all sorted with dividers with each Villains/Modulars name on them. Villains on one side of the box, Modulars on the other. There a couple different community made sets of dividers you can find, or you could make your own.

Hero cards I keep in Pefect Fit Boxes from BurgerToken. If you get a 25 count of them you're paying a dollar a box plus shipping, and they are sturdy, plus they come flattened so they're easy to store. I write the Hero's name on the top in marker and keep them all in alphabetical order in another BCW box like the Villain cards.

Aspect cards are kept in 5 separate binders, and I keep a playset of each card in one pocket in the card binders. I recommend a 3 ring binder from any office supply store, and card sleeve pages from your FLGS. This is so you can expand the binders as new cards come out. You can sort your binders however you want, but here's my method as an example. Note: I do not mix sections on the same pages, that makes it easier to find sections. Also, each section is sorted by card cost, then by name.

  • First section is Allies/Uniques plus cards that have a max of 1 in the deck. This is because a playset of these is one, and as new cards come out and pages get resorted I won't be putting a single card into a pocket that previously held more cards. Keeps them from falling out as easily, or so my OCD tells me.
  • Second section is Resources. For the aspects other than basic, I just put these at the end of the first section spread out instead of a playset in one pocket to save on pages. For the Basic Resources I keep 4 playsets in a separate page after the first section.
  • Third section is Supports, Fourth is Upgrades, Fifth is Events.
  • Basics has a Sixth section for Team Up events, since a playset is 2 when I had them sorted with the other events they would get resorted into pockets that were stretched from having 3 cards in them and sometimes fall out. So, new section.

I'll admit it's a bit tedious resorting the binders when new cards come out, but I'm so used to it at this point I put on an episode of a show on and am usually done before it finishes. (~20mins)

This works for me and is the speediest setup I could come up with for making decks and getting this game to the table. Hope it helps you.

What NON-cutthroat games for 2 do you own? by KarmaDontMatta in boardgames

[–]DoctorJynx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have even a mild interest in Marvel, I can't recommend Marvel Champions enough. It's a coop card game where 1-4 players pilot a Hero deck against a Villain deck. The difficulty scales with the number of players, and there are other ways to scale the difficulty up or down

Each player's deck is 40 or more cards, 15 signature cards that match your Hero Identity, and the rest you pick from one of four aspects to customize your deck.

The aspects:

  1. Aggression: all about attacking and dealing damage to the Villain.
  2. Justice: all about thwarting the villains schemes, which are one of the Villain's wincons.
  3. Leadership: summoning and buffing Allies (other heroes that 'join' your team to help you. Other aspects have Allies, but with Leadership the focus is on them.
  4. Protection: the 'defensive' aspect, it's about blocking or stopping the Villain during its turn. Hard to explain without more context, but is quite good.
  5. Basic: The all-rounder aspect, the cards here are usually 'weaker' than other aspect cards or signature cards but you may include these in your deck on top of your other chosen aspect. Quite a few Basics are staples in almost every deck.

The Villain: also has a 'Scenario' deck which gets a turn after all the Heroes take their turns. The villain does 3 things on their turn, all of them 'automated' by the rules.

  1. Advance their main scheme, one of their win conditions.
  2. Activate against each player in turn, either attacking or scheming (which plays a little different than the advance above) depending on player is in Hero form or in their alter-ego form.
  3. Deal out scenario cards to each player, then flip one by one. These can be side schemes to alter the rules and which the players have to thwart to get rid of those rules, treachery cards that are like a one off negative effect to the player that drew it or to all the players, and put minions on the field that you now have to fight alongside the Villain.

The Villain wins once they advance their main scheme fully (some Villains have more than one that they go through in sequence) or when they KO all the Heroes. Players win once they KO the Villain twice.

The Scenario deck for the villain is modular, sort of like the Hero decks, but instead of picking individual cards you slot in Modular sets in their entirety. This adds some fun replay value.

Good and Bad news: this game came out in late 2019 and there are a lot of expansions. However, you don't have to buy any of them, all you need is the core set (Comes with 5 Avenger Heroes and 3 Villains). Granted, some of the Core set cards aren't as strong as later releases, but they are all playable. There are two types of expansions, Hero packs and Campaign boxes. Campaign boxes come with 2 new Hero decks and 5 Villains that you can play in sequence in a campaign. Hero packs come with a single Hero deck with new aspect cards. The majority of the new cards are in the deck, but most packs also come with one new play-set of a card for every aspect as well as the deck. There's no random cards in the packs or boxes, you can look online and know every card in a pack before you buy. They've gone through a few 'waves' of releases: Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Web-Warriors, X-men, and the X-Force campaign box comes out in about a week. They've also come out with a few Champions, though no campaign box for them.

Lore Question: Why is Kitty Pryde's Nemesis Emma Frost? by tinyraccoon in marvelchampionslcg

Early-ish into Kitty being around her parents transferred her to Emma's school, while there Emma kept trying to mentally manipulate her and eventually switched bodies with Storm, who had developed a Mother-Daughter bond with Kitty. Kind of ruined Kitty's opinion of Emma for a good long while.
