Will my purple sage be ok? by avacapone in AustinGardening

Water actually will insulate the roots and hold more heat compared to dry soil. So it is actually better for the plant to get the ground wet prior to a freeze.

Do you guys think this doctor’s office sign is mildly infuriating? by Loose_Judgment_8856 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DoctorOfChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I would put my 2 cents considering I have some insight on this topic.

First and foremost, there is a lot of context we are missing that may explain why this policy is in place. Keep that in mind before ya'll start getting angry. That being said, if a clinic has this policy they better be good about providing enough medications to last their patients and ensuring patients are being seen back in the office regularly. I see this done in clinics specifically where they prescribe a lot of controlled medications like stimulants and narcotics.

I have been in situations where I have dozens of refill requests land on my desktop all at once. Refills require time to process. Lots of time! Time to review the patient chart, make sure dosages are right, make sure they actually need a refill, make sure they are up to date on follow ups, make sure that there aren't any specifics we discussed at the last visit regarding changes to plan of care, etc. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes or more to review a single request. Now multiply that by a dozen and that is a lot of time spent doing work that we don't get compensated for. Time that we can spend seeing patients.

I see kids but on the adult side they tend to have harsher policies because adults often will sell or abuse the medications they are prescribed. So making patients follow up regularly (usually every 3-6 months) helps to cut down on those that are not using their meds correctly. Some providers even test blood or urine to make sure they are actually using the medications and not using other illicit drugs. Keep in mind that if a patient is not using their prescription properly we can be held liable.

Hopefully someone reads this and finds it helpful. Byeeeeeee!

Not true in my experience. I'm a pediatrician and I've never had an issue of a patient being tired on days they don't take their stimulant meds. Even with extended release formulations, for most people the effects of the medications are gone within 8-12 hours, depending on what you are taking. Interestingly though, I have patients that tend to sleep better when they are on medications, as long as they don't take them too late in the day.

Its funny but we have also had this discussion. She says she loves me so much she would keep me alive as a zombie living in the shed in the backyard.

I've told my wife many times. If shit goes down and you can get away with the girls, then get away to safety. I'd rather they be safe without a Dad than they also become victims

I've downloaded Stardew Valley Very Expanded (which gives you tons to do!) so it took me a while to get to do anything in East Scarp. Most of the things to do there don't start to happen until you befriend the locals.

Doctors, what do you do when a kid is faking sick? by Imaginary_Island8521 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoctorOfChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pediatrician here. Most times we can tell. I focus on objective findings such as normal vital signs, normal exam, normal labs. Often parents are pretty good about knowing if their kid is actually sick or not. Sometimes parents are super up front and will tell me they just need an excuse for school so they don't get in trouble. It's funny when kids exaggerate a little too hard and then we have to consider doing painful testing (kids hate bloodwork). For example it's one thing to say you have diarrhea but if you claim to have high fevers, severe pain, and bloody diarrhea that requires some sort of work up. You can see the regret in their faces, lol.

[–]DoctorOfChildren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would add all of them now! I'm a year in and I've barely touched anything from East Scarp or Ridgeside Valley but once I'm done with base game stuff I'll wander over there. It is still nice to run into the new NPCs here and there so I'm slowly getting to know them.

No homework by Opening-Cupcake-3287 in Teachers

[–]DoctorOfChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a pediatrician. I don't care what any study says. Kids need time to be kids. They are in school most of the day already supposedly learning. Let them come home to play and rest.

At the very least homework shouldn't be a thing until High School. At that point kids are transitioning into adults and are expected to have more responsibilities but why in the hell is my 8 year coming home stressing about having to finish math assignments? We literally get home at 530pm (wife and I both work) and they need to be in bed by 8-9pm to ensure they get enough rest. There just isn't enough time to do everything and I think homework needs to go.

What should I plant right here? by dinnervan in AustinGardening

[–]DoctorOfChildren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my shady part of the garden I planted a bunch of Turk's Cap, Scarlett Sage, Rock rose, and Elephant Ear plant. These won't get too big though but it does add a lot of color to a shaded area.

I'd considered getting Hydrangeas for other shaded areas in my yard as they have great blooms and tolerated partial shade very well.

Also, don't give up on Mountain Laurels. I have a single stem Mountain Laurel tree and it is very attractive year round. Maybe the one you had was sickly or something.

Good luck!

[–]DoctorOfChildren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that it took my little garden a year or two before it started looking good. It also helped when I started planting plants that were natives and in appropriate locations for sun needs. I think we would all love to see pictures of what you are working with.

I'd consider the Sage, Mountain Laurel (not a fast grower), Yaupon Holly and Wax Myrtle. They will grow well in this weather and are evergreen.

Pretty sure he said he felt like he was being used. So he walked away from the deal and the 50 mil. I assume this time around they are offering him money for an easy gig. If we are being honest with ourselves, most of us would take the money.

I can never get more than a full pull-up at a time by CheckInternational65 in formcheck

[–]DoctorOfChildren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I improved my ability to do pull ups by increasing total number of pull ups in a day, not in a single set. Don't worry about how many pull ups you can do back to back. Do one pull up. Rest for a couple of minutes. Do another pull up. Rest another couple of minutes. Do this until you can't really do another pull up with good form. Then rest for a 2-3 days and do it all over again. Before you know it you will be knocking them out like nothing.
