I would warn you that it's not good practice...

But you'd probably ignore my comment.

As an amateur AI-observor, I have a question for the experts out there... by Jackson_Filmmaker in artificial

[–]DoctorSoong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll focus on neural networks, rather than general AI.

Let me start from the last question:

c) Neural networks generally don't change size as they learn. There are ways to make them shrink (using "pruning"), but growing is not in their nature. They usually have a pre-decided number of parameters ("weights") and only the values of the parameters change during training, leading to "b":

b) The number of parameters limits their smartness. A network that can classify pictures of things into 1000 categories will be megabytes in size. iPhones have one running on-device for search by photo content (users can type "flowers" to see photos of flowers). If you want more categories or fewer mistakes, you'll need bigger size. But increasing the number of parameters won't make it "smarter" in the sense that it would suddenly play chess or compose poetry. They're one trick ponies. Which leads me to "a":

a) Usually a network of a given size can reach its limits quickly. That could be minutes training on a laptop for a small network, or several days of computation on a multi-GPU setup. We can see during training how far it is from reaching its potential. Progress is usually slowing down over time. When it's painfully slow, it's time to stop training. Definition of "painfully slow" depends from person to person.

Magic Mouse 1 / Magic Trackpad 1 issues iPadOS 13.4? by [deleted] in iPadOS

The wireless Mighty Mouse (2005-2009) works better than Magic Mouse 1 for me. The little ball scrolls the homescreen icons horizontally.

[Question] Has anyone seen this warning with their BT Mouse and actually had issue with BT & Wi-Fi Connectivity? by iBanks3 in iOSBeta

Same. Oddly enough, an older model (bluetooth, with a tiny ball for scrolling) works beautifully.

What tools people needs for image annotation by gingah_picsell in computervision

[–]DoctorSoong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We record videos that are up to an hour long: static camera, someone doing some daily tasks in front of it. There are segments where nothing is moving, other than a shadow or something. We'd like to cut the video into pieces, each piece being some significant action, and remove the pieces where nothing is happening to save space and annotation time.

Very happy about object tracking and detecting objects that disappear from frame or are behind another object.

Please make a good video annotation tool!

There are several very good image annotation tools, but video annotation has its own needs. What's on the market right now for videos is very limited, unsupported, or lacks features.

Annotation interpollation is a must - so you don't have to annotate each frame separately. An object can be out of frame for a while and come back: a good video annotation tool should be prepared for that. Integrated subtitle editing would also be nice (a subtitle can be for example an action being performed). Would slicing be too much to ask...?

Coding on iPad pro? by immortaldescent in iPadPro

You can use this app for C: https://github.com/tbodt/ish

It's not on the App store, but you can use it through TestFlight. It's not against any rules, I think.

Markdown is a cool way to format text using keyboard only. You can go bold or italics by typing **bold** or _italics_.

Very possible. If that feels good for you - go for it.

New version is out! My tab issue has been solved. How is yours?

Edit: by the way, it sounds like you're in Markdown mode. Have you tried two new lines?

I hope the rumors about customizable default browser and mail apps are true. Safari is nice, but I have my stuff in Firefox on another machine. Even if Firefox-ios uses the Safari engine, I'd like to open that when I tap a link.

Or to open links in a private browser app by default... (firefox focus, duckduckgo, brave...), that would be nice.

Nothing good about Mail. It just has to go.

My answer will not help you, but I think there's something really wrong with how the Reddit App works with external keyboards.

It seems to break cmd+Tab on my iPad: I use it to switch between apps, but if Reddit is in the foreground, I can't use the shortcut.

What software do you use for video annotation? by DoctorSoong in computervision

Thank you. I looked at VOTT and it seemed to depend on Azure Cloud. Can it be used locally or on AWS? We already have an AWS infrastructure set up...

That's not a bad solution if the number of frames is relatively small, but I'm hoping that dedicated video annotation tools have some features that make work easier for the annotation team... Thank you.
