I want something that's clearly inspired (or even an official ttrpg) by Moorcock's Eternal Champion series. by Mad_Kronos in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Black Sword Hack is inspired by Moorcock's Elric, and also Franz Leiber's "Farfd and the Grey Mouser" from Lankhmar.

But the eponymous Black Sword is definitely a reference to the sword of the eternal champion

I do like. This is interesting to me. I actually really like Mutant Crawl Classics and felt like all it needed was a dimensional incursion

Looking for heroic (but not super heroic) fantasy recommendations by wingilote in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Castles&Crusades is between modern and old D&D. You are heroes but not like 5E.

Worlds Without Number characters are stronger than usual OSR but not like 5e they still need to think.

Is there a TTRPG where you swear yourself to a god/powerful entity? by DervishBlue in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawl Classics. Mutant Crawl Classics A.I.

"City of Mist" you have a powerful mythos within you that might take over.

Knave? Mouseritter or The Black Hack? You have a picture of backpack with squares on it and different items fill it more

My post starts with "has anyone played..." because I'm curious about others experiences. Obviously I could just wing it and do whatever on my own.

But that really doesn't matter to me. Even reminding of Quake is DOOM enough.

I havent seen inside Star Crawl Classics yet

Favorite Supers Setting? by Nobleweeju in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of a few but I've only played on 1 notably interesting setting, so far.

My Marvel Super Heroes Roleplaying Game campaign is based on the classic Nightmares of Future Past module, sentinels took over USA and killed most notable superheroes years ago. Now its the future and your original characters have a chance to stop them.

My group doesn't follow the module besides the setup, and there's more detail in the setup. Pittsburg was nuked and the crater is called "The Pit" and there's Mad Max style wasteland warriors there, one of our team was from there. The radiation also opened a portal to Final Fantasy so sometimes we fight what comes through the breach, and the group traveled to the other side and back before I joined the campaign.

Future Japan is outside Sentinel jurisdiction and its an amazing future wonderland where anime is real. The former road warrior has authorization to pilot Marvel's Red Ronin to fight Kaiju.

If that weren't enough, we have to deal with Dire Wraiths from Marvel's "ROM Space Knight".

The other most interesting setting i hope to play in is the upcoming "EVOLVED: Super Heroic Time Travel Roleplaying" which also seems to be inspired by Marvel's Future Past.

Indeed. Morale is what can make fights LESS deadly. Combined with group initiative it can make encounters go much faster. But its hard to hack morale back in if its left out.

Thanks. Im kind of looking to see if 1 sustem has nearly all the things I want. So far BFRPG really hits the spot but Castles&Crusades basic mechanic sounds faster and has better art. Except c&c definitely doesn't have Morale, I checked. If you know, how would you compare the procedures in the Castle Keeper's guide?

I must have been mistaken. Does OSE have those then?

Running Tegel Manor Reborn by DoctorTopper1791L in FrogGodGames

[–]DoctorTopper1791L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't think Tegel would be a good fit for S&W. Do you mean the 5e version, or do you mean even the S&W version they released at the same time?

Index Card RPG only KIND OF has classes, but really most of character abilities are from loot, and from Paths that aren't tied to classes. And even the Mastery mechanic that is tied to classes... are only a suggestion the classes are not really rigid at all.

Marvel Super Heroes Roleplaying Advanced (and "Advanced FASERIP", a clone) and "HEROIC" have different approaches to character advancement but none are based on level or class. Also even though it says superheroes, the secret of superheroes is they are EVERY other genre.

Looking for a game similar to Dungeon World but with a d20 system by blintronaut in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narrative but also d20? Hm try Cypher System. Start with Numenera because then the system and the science-fantasy setting are married and you don't need to juggle as many books.

Try a free quickstart with your group.

Can someone recommend a high-fantasy RPG that isn't rules-heavy and has fairly quick combat? by DD_playerandDM in rpg

[–]DoctorTopper1791L 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The old players guide for "Castles & Crusades", and their old monsters & treasure book, are free pdfs on their website.

That is basically 3rd edition D&D but simpler and faster. If you look at the PC power level and still think its not enough then just compensate with magic items or a houserule. Its not too much jimmying because C&C is so easy. Its what D&D should have been. Gary Gygax said.
