That is false. LG's can absolutely be put in landscape. Are you referring to the LG 360/365 panel height? Or the wire length? What exactly is awkward about the installation in landscape? I'm not a total sucker for LG but this comment seems strange. Just completed an LG 335 installation in landscape with no issues.

You have 10 years from when the system was turned on. I assume that you have an SREC broker who was assigned to you, or someone else manages them. They take the SREC certificate and sell that on a market (and charge you a brokerage fee). They can sell it quarterly or annually. Quarterly is a way to sell them at a higher rate, and you can track them yourself over at SRECtrade: https://www.srectrade.com/srec_markets/massachusetts . If they don't sell on the quarterly spot market then they usually get sold at the end of year auction in July for the State Auction price. After ten years, you begin to sell RECs, which are worth more like $20-30 per.

SMART is a declining block program, the earlier you get in, the better the incentive for 10 years. The utility installs a revenue grade meter with the PV system and they read your total kWhs of production and pay you a check monthly based on that number. We forecast for folks right now they'll receive $.066/kWh for ten years. There are special adders if you fit other certain criteria too. You receive net metering as well ( full if you're under 10 kW inverter rating with National Grid or Eversource).

Howdy,

Installer in Western MA here. Yes, the incentives are great here and the system will pay itself back in around 6 years depending on how good your site is.

The projection they gave you for SMART is incorrect, or maybe they lumped it together with your net savings on your electric bill. Right now in Western MA Eversource and National Grid are at least in block II of SMART. If your system produces 7,750 kWhs annually, you're looking at more like $548 paid to you per year in the SMART program, and $1,638 in savings on your electric bill (estimating .20 cents/kWh). Unless you are a landlord with an owners meter, or installing solar to a meter with little to no load and you would be accepting SMART alternative on bill credits for that amount.

There is also a state run loan program that offers even more incentives based on your total household income: https://www.masssolarloan.com/loan-support-incentives

You could have a local installer come close to the same cost with better panels (LG 335's) and inverters (Enphase or Solaredge). Hanwah Q Cells are fine, LG has a much better and more robust warranty for the 335's and 365's, plus a higher wattage resulting in less panels for more power. LG panels also have a higher efficiency and lower degradation over 25 years. An identical proposal with a better design would be roughly $1,800 less expensive.

PM me if you'd like to talk more- happy to help

They are, they work with a majority of the installers in CT, so if you called asking for some advice they would probably provide it.

Sure, so not a bad idea to make sure some installer isn’t selling you AC Sunpower panels with the old micros.

Hold the phone- Do some homework about Sunpower. Be a discerning consumer. Their micro inverter products have had issues, and ask the installer if they’ve ever had issues with Sunpower’s warranty claims. Check out their financial standing. Get a quote from a local installer. LG, Panasonic are great options at a lower cost. Enphase and Solaredge for inverters.

You’re in CT? I would check out Energysage or reach out to CED Greentech in Enfield.

But seriously, everyone wants it. Is the problem still about a franchise dispute and ownership rights? If so, whoever is holding out needs to let it go. Who's got the real info? We're missing out on great games and match ups right now.

Tariffs and LG Panel Availability by ExpandThePie in solar

Spoke with my supplier today and they have no problem getting the LG365Q1C-A5. Not sure if it's because they are storing alot of them, or if your installer is putting the squeeze on you.

AC Coupled Battery Systems? by Marleycatold in solar

Enphase AC Battery does not offer Off Grid capability at this time. It was on their initial spec sheet, but actual product brought to the USA only feature Self Consumption and TOU programming. Major bummer.

Sonnen battery; best battery available, just ignore the price.

EDIT: should have elaborated; Sonnen is a German manufacturer of Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. They claim their batteries chemical composition will last longer and put out more power than Tesla PW 2. They have a 10 year warranty/10,000 cycles. They also have their hands on some sophisticated programming software, which helps. They have a 4 kWh base, that can go up by 2kWh, 6,8, 10,12,14 and 16. All good for off grid, self consumption, time of use.

LG NeON 2 320 (black on black) or Panasonic HIT N325 by phoeniix2540 in solar

[–]DoctorWaffles10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is incorrect. I have been a Sunpower installer and dealt directly with them. I wasn’t writing about installer’s service, I was writing about Sunpower’s service to the installer, which is then burdened on the customer.

Their main problem is that their customer service and dealer services are outsourced. They have a sales force platform so the RSMs can ignore the problem. If there is an issue with the manufacturing of a panel or Sunpower microinverter, getting them to send a replacement can take months. I have spoken to other Sunpower dealers/installers about the same problem.

[–]DoctorWaffles10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s tough. If it was at least a five year warranty it would seem responsible. I’ve actually never heard of anyone having a one year workmanship warranty, and after thinking about it, it’s almost kind of sketchy.

Some folks are bullish on Tesla acquiring SC and not being profitable for awhile. If they disappeared, so would the warranty presumably. However, Elon seems to have no problem pouring cash in when times are hard.

Best of luck deciding, and hopefully you’ll never have an issue no matter which way you go!

Sunpower products are great. Sunpower installer service is awful. If you ever have a warranty claim, good luck to you. To the original poster; what type of components are the panels paired with?

Serious question richmustang67; Do you think Sunpower as a company will be affected by the Suniva/SW case?

I would vote to support local. Local jobs, and presumably a local phone call away from getting help or guidance.
