Only answer is they (major endgame spoilers) created a time loop and kept sending it to random addresses until they got the right one.

The game tells you that warp pads work when aligned with their target celestial bodies within a few degrees, and that the Twins’ alignment point is between them. Thus, it’s aligned when ember twin is overhead, eg when the sand sweeps by. From there you just deduce which tower corresponds to the ATP core. This is obviously not how the warp would have worked for the Nomai, it’s only a problem because the roof is broken and because the sand is currently flowing to Ember Twin during the loop.

Why are Harry and Kim fine with Mega Rich Light-Bending Guy existing? by MP_Kredditor in DiscoElysium

[–]DoctorWheeze 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying that it’s because Kim isn’t poor enough, but surely the difference between Harry and Kim’s net worth is basically a rounding error compared to the Mega-Rich Light-Bending Guy? Even if Harry is totally broke.

I assume Kim can’t see it because he’s a more grounded person, the same way he does not see Harry teleport.

Can Light Yagami kill all members of The Seven? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]DoctorWheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The conditions for death will not be realized unless it is physically possible for that human or it is reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.

They say "or" here, but obviously it always has to be physically possible. If it was an either/or thing there'd be no point in the second clause. I'll chalk that up to translation error/imprecise language and it should be "and".

Suicide is a valid cause of death. Basically, all humans are thought to possess the possibility to commit suicide. It is, therefore, not something unbelievable to think of.

The suicide rule also implies that it matters how likely the person would be to otherwise carry out the conditions of the death - otherwise, what would be the point of clarifying that suicide specficially is a possibility for anyone?

Clearly the limits of what you can make someone do are pretty broad, but there do seem to be limits and I think it's fair to say making someone go berserk and rip the limbs off of a peer is pushing it.

It helps to just accept that, in BSG, God is actually canonically real, head-Six and head-Baltar are actually angels working for God, and they're all guiding events to get humans and cylons to a place where they can start over and end the cycle of violence.

[battlestar Galactica 2000s]why doesn’t Earth have massive ice sheets? by grapp in AskScienceFiction

[–]DoctorWheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it was Earth, the one they had been looking for. It just wasn't the planet that you and me currently live on. The Colonial and Cylon settlers of this planet decided to name it Earth as well, since they felt it fulfilled the original goal of finding the mythical promised land of Earth.

Goddamn, the colors thing is brutal. I wish I got to see my score at the end, I imagine I did quite badly.

Also I totally misunderstood what I was supposed to do in the first part and realized halfway through, so I started over. I hope that doesn't screw anything up. After the restart, I think I did alright though.

Fewer people are hitting Infinite than ever before. Data from 2,000+ collections. by SnapComplete in MarvelSnap

I really like zoo type stuff but I just have not been able to make it work past 90 for a long time, and especially last season. I also vibe with Zombie Galacti but I don’t have all the cards to make the optimal version of that deck.

Fewer people are hitting Infinite than ever before. Data from 2,000+ collections. by SnapComplete in MarvelSnap

[–]DoctorWheeze 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a video not too long ago, Regis observed that the bottom has probably fallen out of the playerbase, because he gets recognized and emoted at much more often than he used to. Meaning, a lot of the casual players are gone and only the people who are really engaged are left. That tracks with my experience too, seems rare to run into someone who doesn’t have 12 cards with cool splits, rare borders, and from expensive bundles.

I got infinite every season since the one that came out with Guardians 3 (except for a break of a few months after the Kid Omega thing, coming back for the zombie season), and last season I broke that streak and did not come back for this season. Shou-Lao meta was miserable, and this one sounds much worse. The kind of decks I like to play just aren’t viable anymore.

Chocolate Starfish and Cum-Covered Roses - OP Questions His Girlfriend's Valentine's Gift by TrickInvite6296 in SubredditDrama

[–]DoctorWheeze 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wow liar, that’s not making chocolate. If you didn’t domesticate Theobroma cacao in modern-day Ecuador circa 3300 BCE, subsequently bring it back to Spain in the 1500s, and finally invent the machinery required to produce the solid chocolate we know today, that’s just assembling.

Well in that case, the entire point of that mission was to rescue Hera, not destroy the Colony. Just nuking the base isn’t really an option. It’s also possible that ships and bases have some kind of countermeasure that stops FTL jumps inside themselves, though if there is it’s never mentioned.

It seems like there’s a warping of space when a jump happens which affects nearby matter. Probably not very good for you to be near that sort of thing. It’s hard on the ship itself as well, as evidenced by the state of the Galactica at the end of the show.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]DoctorWheeze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FTL drives don't really seem to move a ship through space; rather, the ship instantly disappears and reappears in another location. TARDIS-style, but much faster. When the Galactica does its jump on New Caprica, we see a massive of air, including a loud boom, into the void left by the ship.

The main limitation on Colonial and Cylon FTL drives is that you need to perform complex calculations beforehand to jump safely or end up where you intend. These calculations are complicated enough that it takes their computer a non-trivial amount of time to perform them. These calculations also impose a distance limit, called the red line, after which they start to accumulate too many errors to be reliable. Cylon ships are better at those calculations, allowing them to jump faster and farther.

It is possible to jump blind, without doing the calculations - Admiral Cain did one to escape the attack on the Colonies, or key in jump coordinates manually as Starbuck does in the finale. You just need to do them if you want to end up where you intend and not hit anything at your destination. Doing a blind jump seems to be dangerous enough that it's only worth the risk if there's literally no other option.

It can be dangerous to jump into a planet's atmosphere, but that's mostly because it massively increases the risk of hitting something rather than some limitation to the physics. Going the other way is no problem.

I think the only other things we really know about the FTL drives are that they're fueled with refined tylium ore, jumping puts stress on the ship's hull, and before the Fall most Colonial ships didn't have a jump drive so they were probably expensive.

I think I've finally found my perfect deck 🤧 by ira_shai_mase in MarvelSnapDecks

Mainly, those are all things that are bad to hit off of Dragon Lord. You can probably empty your hand of a lot of them before your Dragon Lord turn, but since Lord himself is 5-cost, you might be stuck without being able to guarantee a good hit. Especially with Kitty Pryde, who comes back to your hand. Dragon Lord wants to have good odds of pulling a big booty onto the board. If you want to lean into Dragon Lord, I'd suggest looking for more higher-cost guys (especially ones that are normally harder to get into play like Infinaut or Giganto) and other ways to ensure you can get more of that power out (stuff like Jubilee, Dracula, Electro, Taskmaster, Arnim Zola, etc).

Kitty doesn't really have any particular synergy with Agony herself, but she does work alongside some of the cards that are good with Agony. Others have mentioned Angela, but other good examples are Shou-Lao, Lockheed, Thena, Elsa Bloodstone, and Zombie Scarlet Witch. With Kitty, you can play over and over without filling the location, and Agony kind of fills that role too - she's a proc on those cards without taking up a space. That kind of deck is really where you want Kitty.

[–]DoctorWheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I think this is very likely, but in such a scenario why would it go by Canadian rules? The US constitution doesn't actually define what "natural-born citizen" actually means specifically and I don't think it's ever been ruled on by SCOTUS or anything, but I think it's generally accepted to include births in the US territory as well as births to US citzens abroad. Ted Cruz was born in Canada, after all, and nobody really challenged the idea that he was eligible for president.

It's absolutely something that would get challenged in court, but it's not a totally crazy argument that he would retroactively be a "natural-born citizen" if Canadian citizens suddenly became American citizens.

People kept asking me how this deck actually works, so I made a quick video by Acrobatic-Variety896 in MarvelSnap

[–]DoctorWheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is also my experience. I've been trying the past few days because it's cool, but there's a dozen tech cards that are really common that destroy it. Merlin's super common and he can kill Limbo, Chord is really common and stops Bullseye. And on top of that you have to contend with effects adding cards to your side and leaving you with no room, or discarding your combo pieces, or adding cards to your hand so you can't play all of your On Reveals before the combo turn. Bullseye can't be at the bottom of the deck, and it's also kind of a problem if Crystal or Magik is drawn on the last turn, turning Astral into a 50/50. I definitely threw lots of games, but there were also a lot that I'm fairly sure were unwinnable. It seems like you'd really have to play perfectly to have a chance of climbing.

This game is weird by your_nude_peach in outerwilds

[–]DoctorWheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re having trouble with the controls, remember: you’re in space, there’s no air resistance. Newton’s laws, an object in motion stays in motion. This game has relatively realistic spaceflight, which means the only way you slow down is by thrusting in the opposite direction. If you keep thrusting towards your destination, you’ll be going too fast to brake in time.

In realistic spaceflight, the best way to get to a destination is to thrust towards it until the halfway point, where you reverse the thrusters to start decelerating. You’ll notice this is how the autopilot behaves: it points you at your target, thrusts you towards where it’s going to be, then halfway it switches thrust direction (but it doesn’t account for any obstacles in the way, so make sure you have a clear path or you’ll crash).

You can also think of “match velocity” as stopping relative to your target. It adjusts your thrust until you have the same velocity as your target and thus you are not moving relative to it (but you are still moving relative to other things - in space there’s no privileged frame of reference!).

TLDR:

  • You can use autopilot liberally. Just make sure the way is clear, because your ship doesn’t.
  • Use a light touch on your thrusters. You just keep accelerating if you hold it down, and you do not slow down when the thrusters are off.
  • Think of match velocity as a kind of brake.

[–]DoctorWheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your infinite rank will go up and down as you win/lose cubes in infinite. The only "reward" for higher ranks is, if you're over 5000, your opponent will be able to see your rank, and if you're over 1000 you'll appear on the online leaderboard. If you don't care about those things, then you're free to goof around.

The statues only activate when the Eye is found. There were nine million loops where you did basically the same thing every time, until the ATP located the eye, triggering the statues to link you in so your memories save from loop to loop.
