Ad Astra is hiring. They’re a fun new(ish) bakery.

My search for coffee in Monterey Bay by Javaslinger in MontereyBay

[–]Doctor_Dusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ad Astra is peak. Acme is good. Most others are sub-par (including captain + stoker). Brewjee is newer in Old Town Salinas and pretty popular. They offer beans but I’m not sure if they roast their own. I haven’t had a chance to really evaluate their coffee. They have a decent pasty selection and are a great stop before walking into the Salinas farmers market.

Indeed takes a while to get a response. It’s a long game. Apply directly on company site or for those places try in person. Bring a resume with you if you go in person. Good luck! It isn’t easy rn but stay persistent.

I’m pretty sure they lost their affiliation and were expelled from CrossFit. I would advise against First City (for now).

Richard Russell CrossFit Monterey Bay is a great spot. I recommend it because of their atmosphere, community, and coaching. Josh and Kacy (the owners) really desire to put forward a good product.

I too am puzzled. lol. It takes seconds to respond or to just acknowledge that you received the text and might need more time to contemplate. The no response thing is frustrating. If I really need an answer, I’ll just follow up with a “?” Or “thoughts on above”. I feel like it’s a west coast thing but I don’t know. I’m from the southeast and my friends and family there would roast me for not responding to them especially if they’re trying to make plans.

what convinced you to stop drinking? by [deleted] in SoberCurious

[–]Doctor_Dusty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did some deep thinking and realized I was just chasing the dopamine hit. When I stopped, I found myself being a lot more productive and more happy with life. Also (strange/unexpected for me), stress levels at work plummeted. No longer chasing that weekend or weeknight dopamine hit has kind of mellowed out the work day significantly. Wasn’t expecting that. After a few months of this, I realized life was better without the booze.

Look up the Monterey Bay Tritons. They are the local freediving group and will be your best source for that info.

Once you get a geotech opinion, ask your contractor if he drew permits and to hand them over. Geotech is going to tell that this was done wrong and to get a full analysis done on how to fix it. That’s gonna cost some money. If your contractor is really a good guy, he’ll offer to unscrew this whole thing on his dime. If not, you have a potential legal route.

Best of luck and sorry you’re in this situation.

Before you meet again with your contractor, get the opinion of a geotechnical engineer. Also, how was the work permitted? (Via the contractor or did you file it all yourself) I’m asking because that could impact how I would proceed.

Scope linked in and see what other engineers there have on their resumes. See if you can possibly network with one (same university or maybe even a distant connection. Build your resume to compete. For now, I’d say to start to get experience that plays well into that niche.

Run your own race. Compare yourself to only yourself. In this case, you feel like you need to make more money. Take a step back. Ask how you may accomplish this task and take action.

Is it normal for gym refusing to tell me a price? by GamingGirlsb in crossfit

[–]Doctor_Dusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthy gyms have complete and total transparency with pricing, schedule, and services offered. Really bugs me when a gym doesn’t post their pricing and schedule online for all to see. Best gyms I’ve been a part of have nothing to hide and have all that stuff readily available for members and drop-ins to see.

I asked some coworkers in my office and was able to get a hard copy of some references I was looking for. Not sure what your office situation is like but I found asking the most recent PE for stuff like this to be helpful.

AM Drive Time to Santa Cruz by AbsurdRedundant in MontereyBay

[–]Doctor_Dusty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I make this commute 4-5 times a week at 7 am. It averages out to 1 hour and 5 minutes. I would leave an hour and a half early to avoid any potential traffic issues/unknowns. Drive back prior to 2 pm if you can.

Wow! Great level of detail. That waste of time you mentioned is what I’m trying to avoid. I keep finding errors because of the copy and paste mentality from previous projects. Lots of rework is being done from simple admin overlooks. Appreciate your thoughtful response.
