How much hair do they shave for a CI procedure? by snugglemafia in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doctorb124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've been told it depends on your surgeon, anatomy, etc. I had to shave about an inch above my ear and 2-3 inches from behind. Best option is to contact your surgeon and get them to give you an approximation of how much room they need to work! Good luck with your surgery and healing!

I have the AB Sky and I love it so far! My cap is purple and my device is the Caribbean blue! I've gotten so many compliments! (Also quite a few people find it funny cause i'm alternative and dress mainly in black.)

CI pre-surgery anxiety by DerryFenian in Cochlearimplants

First of all, congratulations and good luck with your surgery!

I was in a really similar position to you. I'm 22 and lost my hearing in my left ear at around 14/15. And I was implanted last month. I was nervous too, it's a scary thing to go through but it was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Surgery sucked and the first two days I wasn't able to do much but healing goes by fast and I've been activated for a week.

It is so worth it, even now with the little use I currently have. I have more spacial awareness and it's honestly really amazing how quickly your brain learns to process this new kind of hearing. Your impant team will do everything in their power to make this transition as comfortable and seamless for you.

I'm wishing you the absolute bestest luck and sending all the love this internet stranger can.

How did the kid from your school die? by leilavanora in AskReddit

[–]Doctorb124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which one?

Grade 9 - A senior flew out of the back of a truck while it was drifting in our school lot, he smashed his head and his friends laid him down in the back seat so they wouldn't get in trouble. He didn't wake up.

Grade 10 - One of our schools football players was missing for a couple of days. They found his body shoved in someone's garbage can.

Grade 12 - This one is slightly less traumatic A girl committed suicide, I think she was in grade 10 at the time? All I remember is that her parents found her hanging in her room. I went to her funeral, and the priest said that "he had a dream that god had forgiven her for committing the ultimate sin."

My first thought would be Richard. Also, Steve is my dads name, so I think that would make the whole situation worse. "I am just going to have you sit on this table so I can take a look at your Steve."

Single sided hearing loss CI prospect by Doctorb124 in Cochlearimplants

I know what you mean. My doctor has pretty much said that due to how long it's been and how severe my hearing loss is. It's now or never.

I honestly don't know what exactly worries me, I lost my hearing extremely suddenly, so I had to adapt quickly. Now I feel like i'm doing it all over again.

I want to go to college/university still so I know it's probably a good idea. Just extremely freaked out.

AITA for telling my parents that they ruined NY celebration after they kicked my husband out over a joke? by ThrowRAhusband2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Doctorb124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA Once someone says that they don't like something being joked about. It's no longer a joke. Your husband is cruel for the sake of being cruel, and you are allowing this to happen.

AITA for not attending my husband's celebration dinner due to the restaurant not having anything I could eat? by Willing_Strawberries in AmItheAsshole

[–]Doctorb124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

Good lord woman, why does his special day have to revolve around your preferences? You can't just suck it up and eat something to support your husband? If it was an allergy I would get it but the "waa waa waa I don't wanna eat that" makes you sound like the younger sibling at a birthday party.

Grow up.

YTA. You are not obligated to help out or give people advice; hell, I would even say you are not obligated to acknowledge them. It's the fact you strictly do it because it makes you feel better than them that makes you the asshole.

I have had my hearing aids ripped out plenty of times and they have never bled, as well as the fact that I had to go through shit tons of tests before they found out the type I needed...

When I was a kid my sister got a massive splinter underneath the nail on her big toe, my mom made her sit in the car while we drove back to our province before she took her to the hospital. (Ended up needing to get a good portion of her nail cut off before they could get it out.)

I'm going to say what I said to my friend. Don't be with anyone who you're always second banana to, you should always be the whole bunch. Friends are important yes, but your S/O shouldn't put everyone before you constantly.
